I was wondering what the likelihood of a "split" or "shared" spark could be. We know that most sparks lay dormant, and few are ignited to become true planeswalkers. We have seen sparks transferred between characters (Glissa, Slobad). Sparks can be sacrificed (Teferi, others). Sparks can be "lost" (Ob Nixilis).
So could a spark be divided between two entities? Imagine a Lich lord who places a part of his essence into some kind of undead familiar, for safe keeping. Or a kind of demonic pact where the soul of a planeswalker is shared between a pair of sibling demons? A wizard who creates clones of himself, each time diluting his essence among the copies? Other, better examples?
Could this be possible? What other possibilities are there in "planeswalker spark dynamics"?

it sounds like your describing how Voldemort spread his power in the harry potter books, except with lesser beings, rather than inanimate objects.
I could see it happening, certainly, though I don't know how "splitting" a spark would effect its abilities, would they still be able to planeswalk? Or would they have to planeswalk with the object/familiar/clone? Granted, this is fiction we're talking about so they could really do anything they want with it.
I personally would like to see a set of twins that are powerful mages in their own right, but can only planeswalk together or something, I think it would make for a cool twist on the conventional 'walker.

I haven't changed by signature since Mirrodin Besieged spoilers started!

The twins idea is another good example of how this could be utilized.
The way I envisioned this twist on the spark I figured that both parts of it would be needed in order to actually planeswalk, and there could be the possibility that other planeswalkers wouldn't be able to sense their spark as readily, at least not while the parts are not all together.
Well that's getting a bit extreme. The spark is connected to the soul in some way. The only known way to transfer a spark is to absorb a soul with a spark.
So twins having a shared spark might not be possible. Breaking off peices of your soul and taking parts of your spark might be possible, Radha's spark was lost over time meaning that a spark can be diminished (it's not all or nothing). Though we don't know if Radha would have been able to walk without her whole spark (or even her spark as full steam).

The ascension web more or less transferred every soul of the beings on Mirrodin into Slobad, if memory serves me correct.

Really? That's f'd up man. Does that mean Glissa still has no soul?
If Slobad dies, who goes to goblin heaven?
Basically, the souls were transfered into Slobad. Who ascended. Then Karn shows up and tells him that the souls are still seperate, but will soon merge together. So Slobad had a choice, he could use his spark to fuel the ressurection of everyone on Mirrodin, or wait and let the spark and the souls merge together.
He choose the former and everyone was ressurected at the cost of his spark.
It's unclear what would have happened to the souls after the merger. Whether they'd be destroyed, or retain thier identiies, but be imposssible to seperate. (The latter seems more likely as being able to destroy the soul seems like a very dangerous thing to be able to do).
It's possible that the spark can be transfered without merging souls. Memnarch built his machines to mirror Karn's own ascention, there could be a less brute force method to get a spark.
* The only other example i can think of of a spark being transfered is Glacian, who's spark and soul was trapped in a powerstone. So again, the spark is attached to the soul.
My idea for the Great Designer search was for a whole planeswalking family. their sparks all ignited, sending them to a new world together. but none of them have any magic experience, so they're literally learning on the run while trying to stay alive and figure out how to get home.

That wouldn't work for any number of reasons. Cheif among them is that they base sets around settings, not the story. So you should be focused on the plane that they'd be spending thier time on, and not on them.

And...this is an unfamiliar concept, given the general fantasy definition of the phylactery? For that matter, Voldilocks didn't put part of his soul in a lesser being? You may want to read the books a bit more closely there.
About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.

Well, my entry was focused more on the world. The PW family was just to get some planeswalkers into my set.
Now that I'm out of the contest, i'm going to take my ideas and write a series of fantasy adventure novels about the family and the world (I already have a couple of short stories from it in the writing contest forum)...obviously, sans the "Planeswalker" and "Spark" lingo (and anything else that may tie my stuff to MTG, for that matter.)

So yeah, all that's possible. How likely it is is another question.

Did Slobad absord Glissa's soul?
