Everyone knows the Urza Planeswalker created the Metathran to fight the Phrexian hordes, but have you ever notices that there weirdly the same?
Both the Metathran and the Phrexians have been made for the sole purpose of battle and have really no will of there own. What's up with that?

The fact that they are almost brother races, just as their similarity was stated directly in the novel Invasion.
Phyrexians have not been made for the sole purpose of battle. They are a product of Yawgmoth's eugenicists experiments - he sees them as a pinnacle of human evolution. The fact that it makes them efficient, deadly and almost invincible fighters and killers is just a pleasant(for Yawgie) by-product.
Metathrans, on the other hand, were created purely for combat, to fight Phyrexians. The similarity between the two races lies also in the fact that whereas the Phyrexians use implants from different races, the Metathran anatomy was made in the image of several races (a good part was minotaur anatomy, but they have e.g. also some of the essence of blue dragons (stated in Apocalypse, when Bo Levar asks a Metathran if they are able to survive underwater). The Metathran HAVE their own mind, they were just created to be obedient to a commander. Phyrexians (at least the Invasion era ones) are, on the other hand, simple animal minds commanded by a huge overmind (Yawgie, Crovax, Tsabo Tavoc). Just as the Zerg from Starcraft.
The first Phyrexians in the era of the Thran were much more sentient, but apparently Yawgie discarded the idea later in order to have much more control over them.
So, there are similarities, but I do not dare to call them "the same".
Finally, it would be nice of you not to post one thread for one single question. If you have more, just write them in one thread. And try to search for an answer first in the Storyline forum.
If I remember correctly, Metathrans were at one point described as, or at least compared to, golems.
If the Metathrans sole purpose was to fight phyrexians, what have the surviving Metathrans been doing after the apocalypse? I assume not all of them perished.

That has not been looked into yet. We may see some metathran later on in the storyline.

That was the best part of the entire Urza/Phyrexia Fight story.
Urza always hated Phyrexians, abominations, monsters and degenerations.
But as his work on fighting against Phyrexians progressed, it evolved more and more similiar to Phyrexians. At the end he even changed his mind, finding Phyrexian technology so beautiful and perfect...
You know, this got me thinking. Urza did keep saying that Phyrexians are abominations. And he says it with sincere disgust and disapproval. And yet he sees Phyrexian technology beautiful and perfect. Now, correct if i'm wrong but that's being a hypocrite. Now, I've always thought Urza was many things, but I've never thought of him as a hypocrite.
Also we might see Metathran and Phyrexians as distant cousins. 'Distant' being the operative word there. Urza never created anything like a phyrexian. Now, I think, Urza never combined metal with flesh. He created Karn who was all metal. And then there was his Eugenics project which gave us Gerrard and the Metathran.

I think at that point yaggie had taken over his mind.

You really can't get away.
I've tried.
I'm a bit skeptical on the fact that Yawgmoth has the ability to magically influence another one's mind. Let's say he can do that. Why then didn't he influence Gerrard's mind when both Urza and Gerrard were both in the arena? I think it's safe to assume for it would be easier to influence a mind of a mortal like Gerrard compared to a 4000 year old planeswalker, even though that planeswalker is Urza.
Gerrard wasn't influenced one bit by Yawgmoth's mind otherwise Yawgmoth would have avoided being stabbed by Gerrard's halbert.

Urza- Gerrard was being talked about in the Thran? You mean the prequel to the Brothers War?
I thinkkkk you meant Apocalypse.
And agreed, Yawgmoth had no hold on Urza. Urza was already on the complete edge of losing his mind. I mean, he loaded the planeswalker suits with self destructs for crying outloud O_O. If that doesn't say he was going mad, i don't know what does.
Yawgy played psychologist and won over a man who was already 4/5 mad.

The way I see Urza, If it weren't for Yawgmoth, Urza would be just as evil as Yawgmoth.
I beleive I said this in a different thread. Something about Urza being white mana or something.

Then how would you explain what Freyliase said in Apocalypse?
I believe she said "The only difference between Urza an Yawgmoth was a 4000 year head start" Or something like that.

Freyalise always had a way of hating Urza Planeswalker, most likely because of how much he disrupted the natural order of things, even when trying to save the world.
But of course Urza saw the grandness of Yawgmoths vision at the end, he got psyched out is all.

Freyalise was just being Freyalise when it comes to talking about Urza. She hates the guy. Of course, she'll say something like that.
If there was anyone who could best give us the best account on who Urza truly is or what he's capable of is Barrin. And from Time Streams Barrin gave us a positive account on Urza (well for the most part). Urza is simply misunderstood, that's all, by everyone. And not just from the other characters in the story... Urza is misunderstood even by us.
And before anyone else tries to debunk my point by reminding us the bad things Barrin said about Urza before he killed himself in Invasion. The guy was venting out, he was mad, furious.. at Urza, but mostly at himself.
