Hi,
I got a question about Zaxara, the Exemplary and casting a card with flashback containing X like Increasing Confusion.
Does it check the flashback cost or does Zaxara check the main mana cost and thus X equals 0 ?
As I understand the flashback rule it would be the last, but I would really enjoy to be wrong.
Zaxara looks at the mana cost of a spell, not what you pay for the spell. However, luckily for you when you flashback a spell with X it will use that X the same as if it was cast. This is true even if the X in the flashback cost isn't a mana cost. When you declare a value for X all Xs on the card become that value.
Zaxara will use the same X you chose for the Flashback cost, not zero... unless you picked zero yourself!
(and no, Zaxara won't use double-X, in case someone wondered)
107.3a If a spell or activated ability has a mana cost, alternative cost, additional cost, and/or activation cost with an {X}, (...) the controller of that spell or ability chooses and announces the value of X (...)
107.3i Normally, all instances of X on an object have the same value at any given time.
