Hi.
So let's say I have a Nightveil Specter and an Arc-slogger on the battlefield. On my turn, I cast cytoshape targeting my specter to become a copy of my slogger. I activate my arc-slogger's (the copy) ability and deal the damage to my opponent. End of my turn the arc-slogger copy turns back to Nightveil specter. My question is can I play any of the ten cards I exiled using my Specter's ability?
607.2a If an object has an activated or triggered ability printed on it that instructs a player to exile one or more cards and an ability printed on it that refers either to “the exiled cards” or to cards “exiled with [this object],” these abilities are linked. The second ability refers only to cards in the exile zone that were put there as a result of an instruction to exile them in the first ability.
607.5. If an object acquires a pair of linked abilities as part of the same effect, the abilities will be similarly linked to one another on that object even though they weren’t printed on that object. They can’t be linked to any other ability, regardless of what other abilities the object may currently have or may have had in the past.
The abilities of Arc-slogger (clone) and the Nightveil Specter are not linked. The second ability of Nightveil Spector refers only to cards exiled due to the first ability of Nightveil Spector and not any cards exiled any other way.
Ok. So does this also apply to the mutate ability? For example if Iluna, Apex of wishes mutates on to Nightveil Specter . Would that ruling still apply in regards to playing any exiled cards from the enter-the-battlefield mutate effect using the Specter's ability?
The Specter ability is linked to the other Specter ability. Nothing except cards exiled from the one have any relevance to the other. The "spectral-Apex" chimera you build, its possession of an ability that exiles some cards, is irrelevant to the other two it has from its Specter DNA.
