Player A activates Cursed Scroll with one card in hand targeting an Academy Rector. The ability resolves and deals two damage to Academy Rector killing it.
Player A has a Adarkar Valkyrie in play.
Player B wishes to activate the trigger on Academy Rector.
Can Player A respond to the trigger by bringing Academy Rector back into play with Adarkar Valkrie?
We came to the conclusion that Player A could not return Academy Rector to the battlefield. Our conclusion was if Player B opts to use Academy Rector's triggered ability, it must be exiled which puts Academy Rector's trigger onto the stack meaning there is no target for Player A's Adarkar Valkrie.

Adarkar Valkyrie's ability can only target a creature. A creature only exists on the battlefield. If Player A waits until Academy Rector dies, it's too late to activate Adarkar Valkyrie.
Now, let's say that Adarkar Valkyrie's ability was activated before Academy Rector died. Then when Academy Rector dies, there will be two triggered abilities waiting to go on the stack. They will be put on in APNAP order (active player, non-active player).
If it's Player A's turn, Academy Rector's ability will resolve first. If it's Player B's turn, Adarkar Valkyrie's delayed trigger will resolve first.

Player A cannot respond to Academy Rector's trigger with the Valkyrie's ability because Rector is no longer on the battlefield. If Player A wants the Rector, he would have to activate the Valkyrie's ability targeting the Rector before it dies. Of course, it being player A's turn, it doesnt matter, as when Rector is put into the graveyard, both Rector and Valkyrie's abilities trigger, and they are put on the stack in Active Player (AP) Non Active Player Order (NAP) ---- APNAP. So, Rector's trigger is on top, and then if player B chooses to exile it, it will no longer be there when the Valkyrie's ability tries to bring it back.
It is Player A's turn.
