i thought stores were supposed to receive "gift packs" at the end of january.
since i see nothn online for sale, i wonder if stores actually got the free packs or if wizards canceled them or if they just failed to deliver on time
Not only quietly backed away from sending them out but also dumped them in a landfill at least according to the Magic Historian on YouTube that is. Thing is that the photos we saw of the landfill in Texas were $100,000 worth of Modern Horizons II Draft Boosters although more photos online surfaced where part of a torn apart uncut sheet (looks almost like the Dead Sea Scrolls IMO) of one of the new Lord of the Rings Commander cards Gollum was found including an uncut sheet of the new Frodo Commander as well. I didn't realize this already had it's own thread but this also emphasizes the current state of the game in general. Here's the video explaining this in better detail:
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised If Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro dumped the remaining stock of Magic 30th in the Texas landfill while writing it off as a loss on their taxes. They'd rather take the loss than sell the overprinted products online at a discount. I'm amazed that the person taking the pictures at the Texas landfill also found beat up Unfinity and Secret Lair products as well. Congratulations Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro, you've now proved that you're not the Nintendo of Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games but the Atari of Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games. Never would I have thought to see the day that Magic: The Gathering would actually outdo E.T. on the Atari 2600 but here we are almost 40 years later.

That's the thing though. If Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro stopped being held accountable for their actions for what they're currently doing to Magic: The Gathering then that only rewards them with even more bad behavior that they feel like they can get away with. Cynthia Williams the CEO of the company HAD to look up Magic: The Gathering on Wikipedia to have some clear understanding of the Intellectual Property (IP) she's running based on the recent Fireside Chat that took place a few months ago in regards to the whole Magic 30th debacle.
What's even worse is that they even doubled down on a $1,000 2023 Valentine's Day product for Magic: The Gathering sold direct-to-consumer that NOBODY was able to purchase yet they accuse us players and customers for being too "price sensitive". Now they're releasing another specialty product this year with Commander Masters after Dominaria Remastered with an estimated Expected Value (EV) of $400+ per booster box. Even the constant "Secret Lair Alerts" made famous by Tolarian Community College has gotten out of control as well.
As for Magic 30, Rudy posted a video recently that Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro was actually going to give out 10,000 boxes of whatever was unsold of the product to select LGSs. When I talked this over with one of the employees at my LGS she said that she didn't know If they actually plan on carrying it knowing that it didn't sell as big as Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro thought it would which was no surprise there. We all just kind of chuckled over the idea when it was just nothing but proxy cards anyway. If it were up to me I would've just dumped the remaining 10,000 boxes in that Texas landfill.

Looks like FunkoPops are doing the same thing and will be dumping $30 million of inventory into a landfill as well.
Really environmentally friendly of them as well as WotC huh?
The abject greed of these companies is beyond comprehension. Just give the ***** away morons!!!

I already saw FunkoPops going the way of Beanie Babies years ago. I used to collect Beanie Babies thinking they were actually worth money only to find out 20 years later that it was all a scam. Problem is that much like Rubix cubes they were mass produced to where there wasn't as much of a collector's market for them. What If Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro didn't dump all this product in the Texas landfill? What If a Whale who owned 6 pallets worth of sealed Magic product making 6 figures dumped all that product in the landfill?
My guess is that it HAD to have been Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro since dumping all that product in a landfill is just a drop in the bucket to them compared to a Whale who'd end up losing more money in the long run. The only Whales who are basically millionaires right now are those who bought into the Reserve List Buyout boom years ago when they had the opportunity to do so. Now it's much harder due to scarcity of Reserve List singles in the marketplace right now. Interestingly enough there wasn't a single Reserve List card in that Texas landfill since they're actually worth money.
