After spending a few days slowly opening a box of Zendikar Rising set boosters, I'm pleased to report that the experience actually was (as advertised) more fun than opening a box of draft packs. I've actually kept all the cards in the exact order they were packed, and I'm not sure when I will have the heart to separate them. Going back through, looking at each pack, comparing them to one another... they're like little stories, some quite vividly memorable.
I'd love to know how other people felt about this new product, and see some tales of your favorite packs that you opened.
I'm also curious what is the highest-value / rarest pack ever opened by anyone on the internet. Did anyone get 4 rares? What about a 5th rare in "The List" slot... that's possible, right? I wonder how many foils are possible?
But that wasn't my actual favorite pack in terms of the opening experience. My favorite was the very last pack in the box. Just a quick backstory so you understand why it was such a fitting end to the box... I'd been having my husband, who is an ordained minister, jokingly "bless" the packs to try and get some of his "luck" to rub off, because it usually feels like he's more lucky with packs than me. He was busy doing other stuff and didn't feel like opening them himself. He's not really a gamer, the only game he plays is MtG. He mostly loves milling, other alternate win conditions, or "griefer" strategies. (Let's put it this way: his favorite character in Star Trek is Q. Insert eye roll emoji.) So here is a photo of this final pack of the box: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11RXuiBxfmg4HA5TXFwq-ENr7_djRd1p7/view?usp=sharing
Burning bush art - a biblical reference!
Foil land!
Two cards in a row with not only mill, but other rude effects my husband would totally love dropping on people . These cards are both from a "4 effects for only 3 mana" series that seems oddly powerful. What do other people think about this series?
3 "cleric" creatures in a row! Again... he's an ordained minister... kinda similar occupation.
Warrior creature with art of 2 people fighting back-to-back... did I mention he and I are both lifelong martial artists? How could this be so fitting?!
Epic art merfolk, plus a couple just generally nice cards.
PLANESWALKER
A counterspell, just his play style, plus it's foil and double sided!
A sweet innocent little baby plant token.
There were so many great pack-opening experiences that I can't share them all in one post, so I'm hoping to hear from others how you liked this new product, and what sort of exciting, uncanny, or otherwise memorable opening experiences you may have had.
i love your enthusiasm and i would hate to destroy that.
my experience with set boosters has not been a positive one. while i have gotten cards from "the list" they've been mediocre and uninspired at best. the extra foil has never been anything remotely interesting or worthwhile, and the rare hasn't been anything stellar either. art cards are neat, but not worth the extra cost to me. i've only purchased 6 and i understand its luck of the draw. a total gamble cranked up to 11 because of the foil, possible extra rare, signature art cards, and "the list". these will be the only 6 i ever purchase because that was enough to make me disinterested given the cost vs. contents.
this one will be a hard pass for me in future sets.
Opening whole booster box, I got 7 cards from the set, aka used toilet paper. Gigantosaurus was a rare, rest were worthless commons, uncommon. Total value about $3.
Got 3-4 packs w 3 races, and two showcase crabs. I was lucky to pay “normal” booster box price. It was not worth a premium.
Picked one pack up when I bought my box. I got a foil Ancient Greenwarden and a borderless Branchloft Pathway. I hadn't been paying much attention to the product when it was announced, so I missed the news about The List. I bought a few packs from Walmart and opened a Wrenn and Six - that's how I learned about The List.
I know that I got extremely lucky. From what I've seen, they really aren't worth the extra price.

From my box, I got one pack with 3 rares! Here is a photo of that pack: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WZIkBfCh9f4_quKMzwjdwwSF_YKyw6xw/view?usp=sharing

(P.S. I had some trouble uploading images.)
