Rare duals are not relevant for Limited and we're almost definitely getting ten shocklands in Standard by next year. Plus the set has a bunch of good value for various formats already. Would I have liked a rare dual cycle? Yeah. But this of all sets doesn't need that.
Mana has actually felt pretty good so far this standard tbh. The checklands were a big step in the right direction.
Besides, if we were still on the 2 set block thing, the lands show up in the first set (dominaria) so standard hasn't really been set up to handle two back to back sets of lands (that would cause a swollen mana base for set cycling that would need to be addressed). It works out well with Ravinica on the horizon anyway.
We're getting shocks if we are going to Ravnica again, so I'm not really sure what lands they would want to bring into standard right now for fixing that wouldn't be overkill. Checks + shocks is one of the best mana-bases around in the game outside of having fetches, so I'm pretty happy.

Is crushing sadness a 'thought'? I love lands, I love cycles, I love powerful dual lands, and I love fast lands.
To get some trash 'comes into play tapped' set? After all the very cool cards so far in this set?
really, though, I'm wondering when the heck the ten scrylands are coming back. They're great; tap for two colors, scry 1, and they ETB tapped so they're not OP. Since scry is now evergreen (thank goodness), isn't it about time we get them in Standard again?

Was really hoping the return of core sets would get us a reprint of the allied colored fast lands... damn things are getting pretty pricey.
We probably wont need them in standard and I suspect they will put them in some non-standard supplementary set soon along with man-lands. Right now I'm imagining they are doing a check land + shock mana base this coming standard season, so they definitely don't want to add too much fixing.

When we go to Ravnica again, not if; Guilds of Ravnica is already confirmed as the set for this October.
Also, while shocks are likely in the return-to-return-to-ravnica set, it's not a guarantee.
Not print duals would be commercial suicide.
Its super guaranteed, unless they completely want to dump themselves (which might totally be in the realms of possibility, if they are still permanently kinda drunk at work).

Ravnica's a multicolor set, so duals of some kind are as good as guaranteed, but that doesn't necessarily mean shocklands.
It's a pretty good bet, though, considering history.
A "full" standard, i.e. just before rotation, normally has 20 rare dual lands. Now there are 5 Fastlands, 5 Cycle-lands, and 10 checklands. As Amonkhet and Kaladesh leaves, that gives room for ten more duals after rotation, which will probably be split according to the guilds among the two first Ravnica sets (and might easily be the shocklands).
For standard I see no issue as the format already has pretty good mana fixing. I don't like this decision because it hurts the booster/box value a little bit making limited a little bit less affordable then what would be. For that reason I would like some reprints ...

First two R2R2R sets. Last one isn't going to have the guilds. Probably because there are more pressing concerns. (And I'm totally fine with that. One thing I liked about the block system was how blocks could evolve. Look at Time Spiral, Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, Alara, Scars, Innistrad, or Tarkir. Even Theros has a bit, with no devotion cards in Journey Into Nyx because it feels like the gods have abandoned them, but I think of Theros as more hit and miss in that regard, replacing monstrosity with a Browbeat-esque mechanic didn't really feel like an evolution.)
By the way, I just noticed your pony's color pie cutie mark. Cute.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Kinda was hoping to see painlands make a return. So sick of ETB tapped duals
They would have had to downshift them to uncommon, unfortunately. I would at least have liked the Kahn's Gain lands.

As they are using lands in the core set they could have totally included rare lands in the basic "land-slot".
Simply having an extra rare in a booster and making them actually useful lands for constructed would have been a lot better.
Having a "land-slot" per booster is a much more lenient extra value slot anyway, and it allows to have more room for actual rares and it avoids the issue of making lands uncommon or rare to begin with, as they have their own slot and rarity in that way (as theres just 1 land per booster, but a guaranteed one, which could just be worthless basic lands nobody wants anyway).
----
Especially for ravnica that could be a major upgrade, if they end up making it like in Maze, which could have duals in the guaranteed land slot (which otherwise would have been the "gate" lands).
Removing the basic lands in favor of a land-rarity would be quite a thing to have that benefits the game and increases value of booster packs.
Putting basic lands in the booster packs is the among the top stupid decisions they made and they still defend that stupidity.

I've long maintained that WOTC did the land slot only partially to give new players access basic lands, but mainly to keep from having to raise booster pack prices. I know it only replaces a common but for any people looking to get full sets, or for when a common hits chase status, that's a little more sealed product that gets sold to people going after those cards. It's like packaged food in grocery stores being reduced in size but keeping the same price on the shelf.
But I definitely agree that they should expand the use of the land slot to include fixing and utility lands, though I can see them keeping the best dual lands at rare to help move packs.
I'm actually really hoping that RtRtR doesn't have shocks, and they do something else. The RtR supply was so huge, they are still plentiful, and prices have barely gone up at all since they were in. I absolutely believe in reprinting cards, price and availability should not be obstacles, but there are so many other things they could do, ZEN fetches first among them. I just don't think that $10 lands that still have SO MUCH supply would be a wise move. Look at the M15 pain land cycle, or the Filters. Supply is higher than demand is even thinking about being, and a pain land is usually not worth a pack. If Shocks got another huge printing, I think it would crash the prices and it would actually backfire, they wouldn't sell the set because they wouldn't be chase cards. I can still get a box of anything in RtR block for the same prices as when they were new, and that's with a GREAT draft format.
