I'm writing some tournament software for my personal use, and I want to make sure I get point values correct.
Assuming a typical two-player swiss tournament, points are assigned based on Wins, Ties, and Losses, which are worth 3, 1, and 0 points, respectively. They are assigned both for Games and for Matches.
My question; does a 1-0 count as a Win for Match points, or is it a tie? Or is it neither?
Option 1: 1-0 is a Match Win
P1: 3 (Game Win) + 3 (Match Win) + 1 (Game Tie) = 7
P2: 1 (Game Tie) = 1
Option 2: 1-0 is a Match Tie
P1: 3 (Game Win) + 1 (Match Tie) + 1 (Game Tie) = 5
P2: 1 (Match Tie) + 1 (Game Tie) = 2
Option 3: 1-0 is neither a Match Win nor a Match Tie
P1: 3 (Game Win) + 1 (Game Tie) = 4
P2: 1 (Game Tie) = 1
Similarly, is 0-0 worth 2 points each, or 1?
Option 1: Uncompleted game counts as Match Tie
1 (Game Tie) + 1 (Match Tie) = 2
Option 2: Uncompleted game does not count as Match Tie
1 (Game Tie) = 1
The other possible reports are listed here for completeness. Please correct me if I'm wrong;
A win of 1-0 (win game 1 at time, do not start game 2), 1-0-1 (game 2 drawn in turns), and 2-0 (win in two games) all count as a match win and award three match points. There are differences as far as tiebreakers are concerned, but all match wins count for three match points and the differences only matter if third tiebreak becomes relevant.
0-0-1 (do not finish game 1) and 1-1-1 (do not finish game 3) both count as match ties and both award 1 match point. Again, they have different implications for game win% as far as third tiebreak is concerned, but do not differ as far as match points are concerned.

So, is that Option 1 (7 total points to winner, 1 to loser), or am I confused because of the points awarded for game wins? Or is it 6/0 for 1-0 and 7/1 for 1-0-1?
Another question: How many points is a bye worth? 9, but without contributing to tiebreakers?
Game win points are completely independent of match win points.
There are separate game win points, but they only matter insofar as that affects the total percentage of game win points earned out of the total number possible for the purpose of determining third- and fourth-tiebreakers.
A match win gives 3 match points, whether that match win is 2-1, 2-0, 2-0-1, 2-1-1, 1-0-1, 1-0, or anything else. The game win points do not in any way, shape, or form, in any circumstance, change that a match win awards three match points.
The exact same holds for a draw, which gives 1 match point. It doesn't matter if you earned 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or any other number of game win points.
In short: Match win and game win points don't convert into one another. You can lose every match 2-1 and get 3 game win points each round. However, you will still have ZERO match win points.

So, would I be right in saying that a bye would award 3 match points but no game points? In other words, that it counts as a win for match purposes but does not help tiebreakers?
That's correct - a bye counts as a win for match points but doesn't affect game win points.
However, byes earned early in a tournament (such as those earned from winning a Grand Prix Trial) tend to help out people's opponent match win% (the first breaker after match points). Why? Because those individuals don't have round 1 and 2 opponents. Starting off playing against 2-0 opponents will help you have a stronger record than someone who beat an opponent in round 1 and therefore is guaranteed to be 1-1 at best, dragging that opponent match win percent down.

When you go to FNM, you're probably playing in a Swiss tournament. A Swiss tournament is kind of like a round-robin tournament that's cut off after a certain number of rounds. Swiss tournaments work by giving players points based on how well they do. For an official tournament, there's software that helps the tournament organizer handle the math.
For fun, and so I can run unsanctioned private tournaments, I'm making my own tournament software. To do that, I need to understand the exact process. Hence this thread.
(I also want to be able to run multiplayer tournaments, like Conspiracy drafts, and the official software doesn't support that, so I have to build something myself. That's orthogonal to this thread, though.)

Result - - - Points
2-0 - - - - 9/0
2-1 - - - - 9/3
1-1 - - - - 5/5
Thanks for your help!
EDIT: I /suspect/ it's option 3 and option 2, respectively, but I want to be sure.
