I am going to buy some MTG cards tomorrow and build a new deck. What should I buy? What is really cool out right now?
Yeah bruh, I lift AND tap. Get a deckbuilder's toolkit so you don't have to worry about getting land for awhile and research cool decks online and playtest them on Cockatrice first before you go out and buy the cards.
Wait till m14 for ban list update. If you're going standard, wait till theros comes out:)
The cheapest format is standard, but rotation costs a lot. Legacy is worth it, but not the best for new players, modern or standard first

Standard is definitely NOT the cheapest format. Perhaps you'd enjoy regular 60-card constructed formats such as Legacy, Modern, or Standard, but you may want to try other ways to play Magic before investing much in it. Singleton (a super-format) is widely enjoyed as a game variant, and is tremendously popular in the form of the Commander format. Pauper, though mostly played online, is another super-format that only allows common-rarity cards, and is consequently very budget-friendly. Cube is a form of playing that involves creating your own limited drafting environment, and allows for free drafting after you accumulate the cards for it. I have a peasant cube myself, which is built entirely from common and uncommon cards. It's a blast to play, and doesn't require that anyone else buy Magic cards!
Just get a standard precon deck and a few packs and begin to play with friends, thats the most fun I've ever had playing magic. Right when you start out with your ****ty decks and you continue to make them more powerful is a pretty sick experience. Now that most of the people I play with are more competitive, I kind of miss that.

Hi I'm Infecter4life and ironically I only play GBx decks.
That's probably the best thing for new players.

Ok, for serious, if you have a budget of $1000 or more buy into Legacy.
If you have a budget of $600 or more buy into modern.
If you have a budget of less than $600 find a different hobby (ok, not really, but don't buy into a sanctionned format)
If you have a budget of $500 or more every 3 months, buy into standard.
