So me and a buddy of mine are teaming up for my game store's 2 Headed Giant tournament this friday. 2HG is the highlight of this store and usually packs in tons of players. It's a really competitive format there, and you see some really cool builds that work amazingly well together. It's like the players live for 2HG there, there are even some people who only show up when that's the format that week.
Anyway, I was planning on running BRU Grixis control and have him run GRB agro removal. He would focus on developing a board and light targeted removal and I would focus on counters, removal, and control. We were also thinking about running with the Thragtusk/Worldfire combo for a possible kill condition. Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, or advice on what we should run and what would go well together?
Deathrite Shaman is a staple in every deck I build for 2hg. I always run them. But since my partner is running b/g and i'm only running b i figured he'd be better off running them. i was thinking about sideboarding skull rend. a 5 cost is a little high. i think it depends on the match up though. maybe i'll main board 1 or 2
My friend and I went 3-1 with me running RB vampires and him running RB zombies, but this was back when Sword of Feast and Famine was legal. Anyway, have one of you run four Blood Artists, and the other four Falkenrath Nobles. Both of you just need a sac outlet and you can bleed them out. Bonfire of the Damned is really good too. If you're running green, one Silklash Spider is always good.
We had a 2hg tournament at my LGS for the first time a few weeks ago. It was awful.
The top five placed teams used a variation of counterfog/lifegain. The semifinals and finals were some of the most boring games of magic I've ever seen - the only thing that mattered was landing a chalice first.
