I personally wrote Jace TMS off when he was first spoiled and even after playing with him in limited. It wasn't until Bloodbraid Elf, Maelstrom Pulse, Oblivion Ring & Pithing Needle all rotated out of standard that Jace became so dominant. If it wasn't for WOTC f up in the first place they would have never had to ban Jace in standard. That is why roadblocks like O-Ring are now printed in every core set.
Bonfire, huh, apparently it's good even if you don't miracle it.

The only good thing about this post is the edible chocolate roaches they gave out! Mmm mmm!
*crawl crawl*
Wait a minute, edible roaches don't crawl! EDIBLE ROACHES DON'T CRAWL!
I'm not sure how the latter two can be considered weak. even Evan Erwin thought it was a fake when they previewed BSA.
For me, read the thread for Killing Wave. Some people said that it would never ever see play in Standard and people gave all sorts of situations where it wouldn't work. Lol
Edit: I have to add to Lion's Eye Diamond. It's still something I would've never imagined ever using before Dredge and Charbelcher were decks. But who can blame people for assuming its bad? It took how many years to see play?
On the subject of Baneslayer Angel, I remember reading an article on this very site during M11 previews that basically amounted to spotlighting each Titan in turn...and then dissing it by saying "but it's not Baneslayer Angel". ...our Nostradamus, I see.

The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
I had some friends who actually cracked three Snapcaster Mages from a booster box and thought they sucked, and just gave them to me in a pile of junk commons. I didn't even know they had given them to me until I got home and sorted them.

In one of the first ISD drafts at my LGS, I auto-picked every Delver I saw. Everyone else thought I was an idiot when I ended up with 6 delvers in my 40, went on to take 2nd place (one game loss turned into a draw with terrible land-screw) and that convinced a few people of its usefulness.
Tarmogoyf is the most loltastic one, as there were a lot of people right here on the forums that kept putting it down when it was spoiled. Back during Onslaught/Mirrodin block Standard, Arcbound Ravager and Tooth and Nail were severely underrated. During the prerelease I was able to get both of them for next to nothing, then it didn't take long for their prices to sky rocket. Someone previously mentioned Elesh Norn, which is true - many people kept saying she was over-costed at 7 mana and wouldn't see play. She was going for $4 around my local card shops for a while then spiked up to $25-30 when people pulled their heads out of their arses. I also clearly remember getting a lot of chaff for my Mono-U Control article back during MIR/CHK block Standard. Vedalken Shackles initially did not go for much at all and eventually went up to around $10-$15 for a while before that Standard era rotated out.
I think the biggest night and day I can remember is Elspeth 1.0. Most people considered her absolute trash, while in reality she's bonkers and the 2nd best planeswalker of all time. I don't think Stoneforge Mystic really qualifies, virtually everyone who thought she was bad thought so because there was no equipment worth playing her for. At the time they were absolutely right, and that context is important. If you thought she was insane when spoiled you were wrong (except in cube). People thought Elspeth was straight unqualified bad.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.

IIW for any CCC (pick the highest one in the list):
A high-costed equipment (I want it big, but make sure it isn't nutso-broken with Stoneforge. So a high equip cost or a benefit for casting or something)
A Squirrel Wizard
A G?? (1-3 colors, including green) legendary creature with its main strat based on not attacking
...Unless you had the absolute nuts draft deck, delver isn't that strong in limited =/
Had a Snapcaster and then some u/w jank. Some counterspells, some removal, some pump for combat tricks - it worked out pretty well. Wasn't perfect by any means, if we had played a 5th round I'd have gotten destroyed by the guy who took 1st place, but it kinda showed off the potential of the guy.

I started this topic to see what cards people said to be unplayable but turned out to be complete all stars.
Off the top of my head, I can name Tarmogoyf, Elesh Norn and Baneslayer Angel.

He was underestimated how good he was, he wasn't ever considered bad.
Same with stoneforge and baneslayer. They were better than people thought they were but they weren't considered jank ever.
Tooth and nail was considered trash for a while.
Cryptic Command and Bitterblossom were both scoffed at in the beginning.

Batterskull made it <retarded>.. but the swords made it good, that's when the price went up to 20ish.
Don't use 'retarded' like that. ~parinoid
We will rebuild.
Also High Tide, but that may have been more of the stigma of being Fallen Empires than it was a realization of how good it is.

It's a Lot better in constructed than limited.
Some decks cant beat it on the draw. Well balanced card...
