First off, I take serious issue with his highly uncreative nickname (ferrets have been done to death humor-wise, right up there with pirates and ninjas and lolcats and Family Guy), but more importantly, he seems to cast the very game he's writing about in an oddly negative light, commenting on which brand-new cards suck and which ones don't. I mean, it's good to see a guy who writes about multiplayer, but I'd like a little less of the "Buy Lorwyn, oh yeah half the cards blow LOL" attitude. :\
OK, seriously. Would you prefer the alternative, i.e. "Hey Gang! This crap card is sooo amazing and you should build 3 decks around it." We get enough of that during preview week from the other writers.
I think it's fine that someone explains to newer players (who is the main audience of that site, let's face it) why their favorite pet card might not work out in a multiplayer game. It's a completely different format and the card choices are different. Prime example (and the one I believe set you off in the first place): Gaddock Teeg
He may be the chase card in Lorwyn standard, but in my weekly game (just like Ferret's...just like everyone else's), he's little more than a grizzly bear with a bunch of text. I think it's good new players understand that. Ditto for Thoughtsieze. Again, he's right on the money.
If they're only playing Standard, then why would they be reading his articles in the first place?
W/r/t his 'tone'...well, that's harder to justify. It's just his style. It's been done before & it'll be done again. *shrug*

That's true, I've seen my fair share of "OMG SOOOOO AWESUM LOL" ads, for stuff that truly sucks.
The Ferrett's (he spells it with two "t"s) name is a bit more than a nickname; he's been using it as his only name for a very long time. So ferret's overuse isn't his fault. I'm somewhat surprised he hasn't legally changed his name as yet. (I'm not a fanboy, just observant - he explained it all when he started writing for MtG.com.)
Personally, I think a no-nonsense approach to multiplayer is effective. He tells newer folks exactly what's going on in multiplayer, and I know a couple of players that have improved because of it. I do agree that he could be more positive, but whatever makes players better is for the greater good.
