Starting with C17, the yearly Commander product is no longer featuring five decks built around color pie but rather four decks built around themes that aren't necessarily color-balanced. This of course gets me thinking about what kinds of themes we might see. A few stand out to me:
Classic Four Elements - One of the most famous sets of four, consisting of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air.
Four Seasons - Another famous set of four, consisting of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.
Card Types Matter - Since C17 focused heavily on creatures, an upcoming Commander set could focus on other card types like Artifacts, Enchantments, Instants + Sorceries, and Land. Granted, we've seen decks themed around the first three before, but this would be a good opportunity to try new color combinations, like URW Artifacts or WBG Enchantments.
Noncreature Subtypes - Creatures aren't the only cards to feature subtypes. Every card type has featured subtypes at some point or another, including Equipment artifacts, Aura enchantments, Arcane instants and sorceries, and of course various land types including the Basic Five, Gates, and Deserts. Some of these could easily be subthemes for Card Types Matter, but so too could they be deck themes all their own.
More Cohesive Tribal - We just got a tribal Commander, but with so many tribes to choose from it's inevitable that Commander will revisit tribal themes in the future. This time around we got a mish-mash, but future tribal cycles may choose more cohesive themes, like four animal races or four classes.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Another would be a cycle of commander decks each built around a specific mechanic. Say for example a deck built around buyback or flashback, or another built around landfall, and so on. Some mechanic can even be combined with tribal, a Mardu Flanking deck with a knight focus would be awesome for example.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Kinda like what Planechase 2012 did? I could see that. Would be pretty cool. Of course, some of the card types matter decks would make use of keyword themes, like Landfall and Domain for the land deck or Bestow, Constellation, and Totem Armor for the enchantment deck.
Me personally, I'd like to see the Card Types Matter most.
URW Artifacts
We've seen plenty of WUB Artifact legends, but we have yet to see a URW legend that focuses on artifacts.
Themes: Artifact tokens, Equipment, Vehicles
WBG Enchantments
Green and white have long been the top enchantment colors, and black has started to come into its own with enchantments-matter cards like Blightcaster and Extinguish All Hope, not to mention Curses.
Themes: Auras, Enchantment creatures, Pillowfort
GUR Instants and Sorceries
Normally I'd pick UBR for Spells, but we just got the UBR Wizard deck with a new spells-matter legend to boot. URW would work too with cards like Soulfire Grand Master, but I'd really like to see artifacts get a URW legend, so my pick would be GUR. Why green? Well, green does have some good spells for pumping, ramping, and removing, plus it gets cards like Wild Defiance and Silverfur Partisan that reward playing with targeted spells. Not to mention Temur's Ferocious mechanic works well with Prowess and Kiln Fiend-style abilities.
Themes: Spell copying, Recasting, Splicing
WUBRG Land
A land matters deck really only feels appropriate in WUBRG.
Themes: Domain, Landfall, Land creatures

How about a set of exclusively Vorthosian decks, each one telling a story.
A GUB counters matter deck showcasing the rise of Yawgmoth and the original Phyrexia.
A UR artifact deck about the Brother's War; featuring pre-spark Urza, a new Mishra card, as well as their apprentices Ashnod and Tawnos.
A WUBRG spellslinger deck about Jodah's adventures as the Archmage Eternal. Perhaps featuring a Jaya planeswalker card?
A WURBG super-friends/group-hug deck about the Coalition and the Nine Titans.
A UBR control deck telling the story of Nicol Bolas' humiliating defeat at the hands of mere mortal Tetsuo Umezawa.
I'd like to see a them of different Planes. One Ravnica, one Innistrad, 1 Dominaria, and 1 Zendikar.
That sounds interesting on paper, but how do you plan to consolidate the 10 guilds + the guildless for Ravnica, or the numerous disparate tribes, themes and mechanics of Dominaria into a single set?
I'd love plane-themed decks. Theros deck could reprint the mono-color gods, have an enchantment theme. Kamigawa could be focused on Ninja and Samurai, deliver some cardless Kamigawa characters from the novels, and be focused on creatures. Kaladesh could have the UR artifact Legend and be focused on those. And finally Zendikar can be Land themed, be 5c, or we could have a different theme.
I also think they should do either Angel tribal or something to fit in Serra, and I'd love a Sea Monster deck, but since those are not just one tribe (despite mostly being Krakens) it could be part of a Mechanic-matters theme where the Mono-Blue Sea Monster deck is Monstrosity focused.
I wish we'd get Mono-White Humans too with Cosper Lowe. But I love Humans, what can I say.

I'm willing to admit that Ravnica has that problem. For Dominaria you can always rely on nostalgia, or have a strong Urza theme.

Intensity, Integrity, Intelligence, Personified and Penguinified.
Just looking at what they've done in the past, I'd say allied gold is the most obvious next option. Perhaps with a second cycle of Commander Planeswalkers.
One thematic option might be major villain groups. So far, we've gotten recurring instances of certain "big bads," so you could offer a "Villains" Commander product with:
Nicol Bolas
(New/Old) Phyrexia
Eldrazi
Not sure who the others might be. For color completion, perhaps Heliod or Konda for a white-aligned villain. Eldrazi could have a heavy green component as well as a lot of colorless. Just a thought.

They're probably not doing tribal for a few years for the same reason the previous decks went Wedge, Shard, Mono, Duo, Quad. Personally I expect card-type decks like Artifact, Enchantment, Non-Permanent & All Creatures.
Plane themed decks would be cool too.

“Tell me who you walk with, and I'll tell you who you are.” Esmeralda Santiago Art is life itself.
I think next year will be a sort of "Best of Commander" theme. They'll have 4 or 5 decks and they'll just combine themes from the previous years. So we'll see Experience Counters, Partners, Eminence, and Planeswalker Commanders. There will be a little bit of everything from all the Commander products up until now. That's my theory anyways.
Unfortunately every try hard from Sacramento to Shanghai preaches from the top of their 27 lands + Mana Reflection that Tooth and Nail and Time Stretch are fine to play in the same turn but Armageddon is unfair.
I predict they will be based on the player archetypes, Timmy, Johnny, and Spike; and the fourth deck can be for the people who just collect and buy/sell cards.
Can we swap one of those for New Phyrexia and get a colorless commander deck? I would love to have one to build a mana base from.
I don't really understand this request. While I understand wishing for a good mana base, commander decks are famously terrible about placing the rare lands in decks and most of the rare lands you would probably want (Mikokoro, Mirrorpool, Geier Reach Sanitarium, Ancient Tomb, Command Beacon, Miren, Mystifying Maze, Ruins of Oran-Rief, Sanctum of Ugin, Scavenger Grounds, Sea Gate Wreckage, Shrine of the Forgotten Gods, Winding Canyons, etc) wouldn't come with the deck.If anything, the mana base would consist off some uncommon tricks (Urza's Factory, buried ruin, spawning bed, etc), one or two rares, and a whole bunch of wastes. Not exactly an enviable mana base.

I'd love some black border Urza's lands! I think a good chunk of those lands could be printed. The set of cards would be a nice start - whatever they'd include. You'd also get a good set of some of the colorless staples. It would just be a fun start to a commander deck for people who are curious about running colorless - even if all the best cards have to be left out.
General themes
Elementals - It's rather hard to have a theme of elements without including some Elementals. In addition to on-theme reprints, each deck could include a new legendary Elemental as one of its three Commander options.
Earth RGW
Stone and plant magic, as well as the greatest focus on land.

Low hanging fruit will be card types matter, i.e. enchantment themed, artifact themed, instant/sorcery themed and land themed. Planeswalkers won't get a deck because it would overshadow the others and/or probably have too high of value unless it was literally filled with the worse planeswalkers.
I can definitely see card types matter, but I'd also like to see individual cycles for artifacts, enchantments, and land.

I think they will keep it simple and do allied colors with more partners. Partner commanders were a success, and each one they print makes the others more viable.

Also - there's now only 4 color combinations (aside from colorless) that haven't been printed as Commander decks:
