It's not inconceivable that, if there were an Egyptian themed block, it would somehow explain the birth/creation of the Eldrazi if they're trying to do story continuity.
Cthulhu has always been though.
There is no need for any creation story for the magic version of "the old ones".
The creation story for Eldrazi should be "time began, and there were Eldrazi".
Exactly. This is an example of trying to explain something that really shouldn't be explained. Granted, Ulamog and Kozilek are more like Godzilla than Cthulhu but still. I very much doubt they could give us a satisfying origin for these beings that are supposed to be "incomprehensible"(even though two of them just got rekt by a bunch of young planeswalkers like they were little more than the monster of the week).

Neil Gaiman actually wrote a sort of origin story in I, Cthulhu, but tongue-in-cheek homages are probably not the way Wizards would choose to go (it's a well-written story, though, and I think it's actually available online).
But yes, an origin story for Eldrazi wouldn't help to right their reputation at all.
Even if the next block is Egyptian themed, the chances of a standalone story are pretty slim, considering this ongoing storyline trend.

I don't think when they said that the story was completely unrelated, that it would never have any relation to the main story. More likely, it means that it will appear tangential, but the second half will reveal some important connection to the main story.
And for everyone saying that 4chan isn't reliable, remember that anyone can post whatever they want elsewhere too. I can make a new MTGS or Twitter account and claim to be a leaker, just like anyone on 4chan can do anonymously. Do you really think that notice on 4chan saying not to take things seriously means that everything is a guaranteed lie, or that the absence of that notice on this site means everything should be assumed to be true?
There's been talk about Ravnica bringing back past mechanics Time Spiral-style for its Guilds; a third Ravnica block could serve that purpose.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Does anyone else think Sivagat does not sound Egyptian like? Theros sounded like a Greek inspired plane. Fiora sounds French, which the look of the plane resonates with. Innisrtad sounded like a plane with the western European flavoring which the set had. Shouldn't the name ring a bit more instantly like Al'Tahid or some such. I see Sivagat and for the life of me I couldn't figure what culture it would be for unless told.
The difference is between modern Egypt, which is an Arab culture, and ancient Egypt, which predates Arabic by centuries if not millennia. "Al-Tahid" sounds like an Arabic word (though it is not), while it is utterly unlike Kemetic, which is what we call "Ancient Egyptian." An Egyptian themed plane is overwhelmingly more likely to have an ancient Egyptian vibe rather than a modern Egyptian vibe, unless WotC's market research suggests the players are interested in cards that depict corruption, gender inequality, and waiting 15 minutes to cross the street.
unless WotC's market research suggests the players are interested in cards that depict...waiting 15 minutes to cross the street.
Now I want to see that card or mechanic.
I'd be a fan of an Egyptian plane. Some cool mythology that has barely been touched upon in Magic's history. And as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the Quests/Expeditions/Traps from Zen block that were missing in BFZ could easily be reused here, in ancient catacombs and pyramid-type settings.
Given the recent links in the past few months, I'm going to give these leaks the benefit of the doubt even though it seems weird to do a return to Ravnica after that set was completed and how closely people associate Ravnica with shocklands. Perhaps they'll pull a Zendikar and give us no shocks and just a visit to the plane without any apocalyptic plot.
As for Egyptian themed set, it'll be nice to have a contained set free of planeswalker drama.
It's not inconceivable that, if there were an Egyptian themed block, it would somehow explain the birth/creation of the Eldrazi if they're trying to do story continuity.

They said they were going to do 50% return sets, and that back to back BFZ and Inn was going to be an anomaly. I can only assume that means that there will be back to back NEW blocks after INN. The next one might be an Egyptian themed one, and the next return block might be Ravnica, however - I'm pretty sure that there will be another, new, block in between those two. But, shouldn't we see Alara before we hit Ravnica again?
This is not true, because I can reveal right now that the next block will be space themed. Not sci-fi-ish or techy like that, but with sun/moon phases and astral travel by means of magic as major themes, and game mechanics will reflect those themes. The plot will take place on several different heavenly bodies. The next block after that takes us back to Theros.
See? That was easy. Maybe I should make a new thread for this?

Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

And Soo goes the Pop rock references
Didn't see this here so I thought it would share. A poster on 4chan's /tg/ (traditional games) board had this to say:
"The block after Innistrad 2 will be about a new plane called Sivagat. It's a desert world and will heavily reference Egyptian mythology. It will feature gods and the story will be a relatively small-scale mystery plot that's gonna be completely separate from any other story line going on at the moment. The reason for this separation is that WotC is worried that the block will mirror Kamigawa in certain regards due to the exotic setting and almost niche mythology that's not as popular as Greek mythology.
The first set of the block will be called Secrets of Sivagat and the second set will be called Fury of the Sand.
The block after that will be another Return to Ravnica. I have no information about that story and only know the name of the first set. War of the Guilds."
Seems worth keeping in mind, especially considering how many seemingly random leaks have popped up and ended up true recently. Egyptian theme has always been on MaRo's shortlist, and seeing as how we will be getting a "return" every other set now, Ravnica being so popular and all about Jace now doesn't seem so far-fetched. Link below.
Calling this fake from the mere fact that it claims wizards is worried the set is Kamigawa 2.0 - Kamigawa was an abject failure. Wizards would not print Kamigawa 2.0.
Wizards explicitly shared a bunch of these worries with Theroes. That's actually why I have some doubts about this; they've seen they can do myth without it falling flat.

Cyme we inne frið, fram the grip of deaþ to lif inne ðis smylte land.
Long ago in the ancient past, advanced beings from other worlds traveled to this plane and were worshipped as gods. They influenced the culture, intermingled with the people and helped them build pyramids in order to harness the plane's mana as a power source. Then, after some time, they planeswalked away with the promise to return some day in the future. It became known as the Ancient Planeswalkers theory.
Kamigawa used so many obscure parts of Japanese myth and skimped on more known elements like the god trio of Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo. The Kitsune, perhaps the most well known creature of Japanese culture, was also adapted in a strange manner as a white race of priests and samurai, when most would associate them with foxfire, shapeshifting, and vampiric or succubus-esque traits. The lack of Tanuki and Kappa was detrimental as along with the Kitsune they are among the most famous classical creatures of Japanese folklore.
The snake race being named Orochi wasted the potential for adapting the Orochi of myth as a Hydra, and they could just as easily have been named Hebi like how the Rats were named Nezumi. The Oni being Demons made some sense, though they could just as easily have been Kamigawa's Ogres, which is probably what inspired the connection between the two races in the block. And where were the Nekomata, the split-tailed Cats associated with illusions and necromancy? Where were the Tengu, the bird-monks of the mountains?
It's telling that Ninja and Samurai are the two most popular elements of Kamigawa by far; they were easily the best executed parts of the entire block.
Theros was a home run on flavor, down to Ajani and Elspeth having their own Greek tragedy.
Egyptian myths may not be as well known as Greek or Norse, and they may not provide us with nearly as many fantastical creatures, but it does have some very well-known tropes that can be called upon for resonant flavor, including mummies, tombs full of curses, traps, and treasure, and of course the animal-headed gods which inspire the use of tribes like Catfolk, Jackalfolk, and Aven.

I have it on good authority that the block after INS2.0 will take place on a plane with a large body of water. I don't know the name of it, but I am pretty sure it will start with a consonant.
