I had a crazy idea that I just conceptualized. I hope you can join me here in this line of thinking.
So in November we're getting The Brothers' War. Supposedly it's a recount of, well, the famous war between Urza and Mishra that spanned a good portion of Magic's early story and flavour. While Dominaria is Magic's home plane (I don't care what anybody thinks), Shandalar also played a part in the conflict if I remember correctly. With 2023 being the 30th anniversary, I wonder if they'll spend the year retelling TBW across multiple sets for the release year. That said, I wonder if we'll have a set dedicated to Shandalar in that sense as they retell the story over a series of sets until the Fall release marking the new rotation season.
(For support, I recall someone posting an image of what looked to be the logo and possible expansion symbol for a set named Shandalar either last year or the year before that)
What do you say?

I'm down for anything that reminds me of the old sets when I first played Magic. Sounds cool and plausible to me Although, I always read it as Shalamar lol
Shandalar from 1997 was probably the best Magic PC game of all time
Anyone who's never played it should download it immediately
Pure nostalgia guaranteed!

I played the eph outta that game. My old Windows 95 machine could barely handle it lol. But it was fun.

It was fun, but full of bugs. The computer made really bad moves at times (e.g. casting Terror on it's Serra Angel, for example)... Nevertheless, I played it a Lot back then...
he said 2023 has the most ambitious set he’s ever designed
the Last time he said this was for “war of the spark” (and that’s where the whole nightmare started of 6 sets in a row being similar power to OG mirrodin)
heck I think he said companion was a ambitious mechanic.
This ambitious set thing got me thinking even more. If they conclude this Phyrexian arc over the next four sets or so, what will they do for a new one? The Phyrexians are Magic's longest and mist reliable villain by far, way more than the Eldrazi. Will they revive the Eldrazi again?
The War of the Spark arc, the Eldrazi...were all miniscule compared to the Phyrexians.
I'm not sure what else they could do outside of their planar bread and butter. I mean the story for Throne of Eldraine was the start of a super planeswalker arc supposedly, but what else could be done...Ideas?
From MTG.Fandom: "Throne of Eldraine is the beginning of a new Planeswalker story arc.[19]"
Well he sure gave a vague and/or obscure answer to that one. The author of the question got what they asked for. Personally I would have asked for ANY mildly SPECIFIC hint he could give. The answer he gave is a nothing-burger. But thanks for sharing anyway.

I'm hoping the unnamed planeswalker who made the Ozolith go all wacky is going to be the next big bad. I know I might be an outlier but I want something new. Since the beginning of their bigger story push they have focused mostly on tightening loose ends. I just want to see something new.

Embrace the dark you call a home,
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone

Ever since the Amazon accident there’s like a person or two are giving conspiracy theories lim-dul might be involved somehow
i Mean after all the raven man which now revealed as lim-dul still talked to her on amonkhet when bolas had the upper hand to tell her to leave.
My only gripe with this idea is how the usual "New Plane - Return Plane" ratio works. With how things are going, it's very likely we'll get at least two Dominaria sets in a row plus Return to New Phyrexia. And yes, while Shandalar would technically qualify as a "new plane"... it' also kind of not? We've had many Core Sets that focused heavily on it, and thematically Shandalar is pretty much designed to be a very standard high fantasy color-coded plane, which at least for me it's half the appeal. Instead I would love Shandalar as a surgically placed and well-earned break between two crazier set designs, like the rumored Wild West plane, the often teased Anthro/Fables plane or Vryn which I always assumed was Mad Max plane.
That said, Shandalar is still on the top of "planes I wish they would visit soon", but I'm just hoping that being sandwiched between such story-heavy planes that also both have a heavy focus on nostalgic themes doesn't strips away Shandalar's spotlight into just "a change of scenery in the middle of the Phyrexian war".

Shandalar was also featured in Legends if I'm not mistaken (Osai of Osai Vultures is on Shandalar I believe...), and apparently Kird Ape is Shandalar-based too.
Edit: Anthro/Fables plane was Eldraine to some extent was it not?

When we were designing Throne of Eldraine, we worked with the creative team to figure out what was off limits for the fairy-tale portion of the set. For example, we decided that the set wouldn't have talking animals.
And despite being entirely baseless speculation, I assume this would also be Zedruu the Greathearted's home plane, due to the similar clothings, aesthetic and the overall feel of her backstory being very fable-esque.
Well no new planes in 2023 at all, likely I expect because it's MtG's 30th and they want to focus on their big Phyrexia arc and beloved planes for the 30th, although March & Aftermath might preview some up coming Planes like the Wild West.
