I think we’re gonna start seeing phyrexian tribal very soon with dominaria United and brothers war coming up. And probably some upcoming sets in 2023 (standard, supplement, and commander decks)
And now to ponder what could phyrexia. Tribal be themed around?
For a few examples of other tribes that have something in common with most tribal support cards.
zombies with tokens and aristocrats,
elves with huge mana production and go wide.
rouges or ninja with unblockable.
and the new Phoenix tribal legend with graveyard regrow/recursion.
And phyrexians it’s 5-color tribe due to mirrodin/new phyrexia granting them RGWU from the suns of mirrodin (red splashed) and phyrexians could be lots of things of what they done in thr lore.
edit: forgot two things to mention
1. the reason red is splashed is elesh norn dominated the red realm, but however in new capenna Urabrask claimed he’s the he’s still not pledging to his realm to her and is still locked away the mirans are still just fine
Not to mention the amount of cards that have been errata'd to be Phyrexians, yeah, I think saying we'll get some tribal components in the future is a safe bet.
That said, it's difficult to say what sort of theming Phyrexians would get. Their most common trait is, effectively, mechanics that are painful to play against, and I don't think that stacks well as a tribal group. They could have a similar zone as zombies, dying and coming back, but it's space that's been mined pretty hard as is. They can't go all in on Poison, Infect, or Wither, because those mechanics get way too strong when stacked.
My guess is that the tribal component will be more along the lines of "When X or another Phyrexian die" type triggers, where killing them is just as painful as keeping them around.
Hmmm… as far as what would work for phyrexians mechanically.
1. I seem to remember Mark Rosewater claiming that the Amass mechanic might me used for non-zombie armies in the future. I could see the WotS cards being errata’d to read “Amass Zombie X” and seeing new cards with “Amass Phyrexian X” (much as hideaway was just edited to be more versatile).
2. The new Phyrexians ruled by Norn seem to be about unity. While I don’t see Alliance coming back too soon, I could imagine something like “Unity X: If you control at least X other creatures that share a single creature type with CAEDNAME, do X”. Would work to let phyrexian decks have a tribal component while also allowing for other tribes (a phyrexian elf, for example, could be slotted into an elf deck).
Speaking of errata, I was pleasantly surprised to see Gallowbraid & Morinfen become Phyrexian. A lot of cards from the early days, Saga, etc, were made into Phyrexians.
I'm quite certain that with The Brothers' War we'll see quite a representation; not sure about Dominaria United or how involved it will be in the Phyrexian arc in terms of representation, but I'm sure there'll be a handful to whet our appetites.

"You'll do a favor for us, of course," Tezzeret said. "I am limited in where I can go and what I can do without arousing suspicion. Moreover, Norn is still demanding I ferry Phyrexian troops and praetors; I can't risk being away for too long. Thus, I cannot stay with Urabrask throughout recovery from the tolls of the journey here."
because its not just praetors being transported by the bride a few normal phyrexians are also being transported
and domnaria to phyrexians is pretty much the holy grail to them
oh and gallowbraid and morinfen were the first ever phyrexians to enter dominaria after brothers war they were the ones to destroy crovax's family heck Gallowbraid was the one who killed Rofellos

Do we have anything saying that there will not be infect coming up? We already have Fynn, the Fangbearer pretty much has super poisonous on him. I know infect has -1/-1 counters built into it but being stapled on to death touch is just as harsh for your opponents to block. I bet there will be some derivative of it similar to how compleated is a riff on phyrexian mana.

I don't think it's been directly said, it's just that Infect is pretty high on the Storm Scale, and requires some weird warping of the format, due to the construction of Infect cards. They can't get too big, because there are so many fewer ways to recover from a hit. Combat tricks become massively more powerful, effectively double what they say on the stat line. Because they have to stay small, even "weak" damage spells become way more useful. It is the most aggro of aggro decks. So you have to keep that in mind, and give enough answers that there can be other strategies, and yet not so many that it becomes useless. Plus, you have to consider extended formats in some capacity too.
Fynn is a Virulent Sliver with Poisonous 2 instead of 1 (and giving it to Deathtouch creatures rather than Slivers). Poisonous, while still powerful, isn't quite as effective as infect. No matter how big any one creature gets, it'll only drop off 2 counters. Plus, even if you build your entire deck around Fynn, you can't utilize the Poison plan without him, making it much easier to stop the plan. In an infect deck, every creature has it, so every creature has to be removed.
Honestly, I could see Poisonous being brought in, rather than Infect. It's not quite as fun, but it has better ways to balance I think.

I do see where you are coming from. It does need to be balanced in order for it to work. I wouldn't entirely call it our though according to an April blogatog entry it is a 7 (https://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/681819863683055616/follow-up-on-the-1-1-thing-wheres-infect-on-the) which is high but madness has been fluctuating from a 7-9 and it appeared in Shadows over Innistrad. Infect I think has gone down in the modern meta lately it seems so it'd be cool for it to raise a bit.
After I posted last night I did think a little bit more on other mechanics. Don't phyrexians like to repurpose body parts for the splicers? They could use ability counters and either have an effect like graft or the dies trigger of Star Pupil.

Yeah, I was just trying to point out the various factors needed for it. A 7-9 is "Not impossible, but needs the perfect environment" which is what I was trying to get at.
It could be interesting for them to have an ability like Scavenge or Graft, or ability wording Star Pupil's text. Imagine each Phyrexian being like a miniature Ozolith. That's certainly scary enough for them. Fits with proliferate, if that comes back.

I like it being like scavenge too. I wonder if they could somehow have creature type counters too like whatever gets the counters becomes a phyrexian. It would be useful in the future for tribal and things like party. I think at the climax of the phyrexian story we are going to have another planeswalker heavy theme like War of the Spark so I think proliferate would be good buffer mechanic like it was in War of the Spark where it benefited both the Army strategy and the Planeswalker strategy.

Oh, not just creature type, we now have the tech to make keywords Scavengeable too. The ability would need to be slightly reworded, but they've done that before. Scavenge could get a real nice improvement.

I was reading somewhere that poison in some form was to be in one of the Un sets, but was removed for a reason. I be;ieve if poison were to come back it'd be the sort found on Virulent Sliver/Snake Cult Initiation.
I'm down for poison coming back but in that form rather than infect. But I do have a soft spot for infect, ngl.

I think the whole Phyrexian creature type and likely tribal is what they are using since infect and phyrexian mana* have issues to bring back. Proliferate is more likely to come back if we see a war of the spark like set with the Compleated walkers and Gatewatch and co.
*Compleated is fixed phyrexian mana it seems but so far the rules have it as a planeswalker only thing so hard to tell if thats something they will update for non-walkers.

True, the Mirrans aren't Phyrexian. But the Phyrexians on New Phyrexia are Phyrexian. It's sort of how phyresis works. Just because they aren't your Uncle Istvan's Phyrexians doesn't mean they aren't Phyrexian.
Hm , the #_Ticket says to take a photograph of the verse in Þrymheimr , sed the substrate board doesn·t seem to have any sort of image-uploading capability .
You could run Infect if you only put it on cards that had downsides baked into them . Costs oC/P , discard a card when you cast it , deals 1 damage to each player , etc .
Cards that deal 1 damage many times would be relevant . If Phyrexian was mixed with Elf , Dwarf , etc , as well as Cleric , Vampire , and Demon (Phyrexian Ally) a Tribe of Prodigal Sorcerer could put a creature that deals 1 damage with Infect for 2 Life --
you could probably make that the mechanic on its own . Something like ,
· When CARDNAME deals damage to a target , pay 2 life . CARDNAME gains Infect until end of turn and deals 1 damage to that target .
the other one would be something having to do with dealing 1 damage , it wouldn·t be Extort , id·d be more like Inspired .

Or maybe it could not. Either way, Phyrexians are held to heart to many early/long-standing MTG players so however they go about this will probably be welcomed with open arms of the vast many who remember these villains from MTG's early days.
