A "brand new" plane that they've wanted to visit for a decade? That would imply leaving out any locations mentioned in Planechase that we haven't been to yet, meaning we will not be visiting:
Twenty six named planes yet unvisited, some of which have been player and Vorthos requests for decades (Segovia and Shandalar in particular), yet we'll be heading off to a brand new plane. Kaldheim looks like it might have made a good Viking world, but... let's go somewhere else.
Obviously they need to follow up the planeswalker war set with a plane war set. 36 planes featured in one set.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

No. WotC has made a conscious choice not to have firearms in MTG.
Seems hard to do a wild west world without pseudo-guns. Even if they end up looking like nerf toys, the design space is there. Equipment that grant pinging abilities of various kinds, stop untaps as a "slow reload", or allow for multiple untaps "machine gun" style, maybe a cannon vehicle.
How else would they do wild west?

Probably as spell slinging to replace gunslinging, a lot of from the hip fireballs and (hopefully) a lot of finger guns.

I do not consider any of the Final Fantasy games after VI to be fantasy. They are sci-fi with fantasy elements.
Hmm, what about XII? That one's set on Ivalice, as is most of the Tactics series. There's also XI and XIV, not to mention the Crystal Chronicles side series. And really, VI itself was the start of the technological encroach on the series with Magitek. And even before that, robots go all the way back to the original with the automatons and Warmech.

The first six games was more fantasy with sci-fi elements than sci-fi with fantasy elements. The tech in the first six games was almost exclusively of either the steam punk or lost civilization variety, while from seven and onwards it was firmly entrenched in sci-fi tropes (I mean, cloning a god, really?)
But then again, I still consider IV to be the best of the lot.

Crystal Chronicles was heavy fantasy with little to no advanced technology. Some of the levels like Goblin Wall and Iron Mine Downs felt downright Tolkien-esque. The premise of warding off miasma with crystals has even inspired some worldbuilding for my Final Fantasy-themed Magic set.

FFIX was a throwback to the classic NES and SNES games, so the Sci-Fi Fantasy is downplayed there. Crystal Chronicles was heavy fantasy with little to no advanced technology. My first thought is "Norse world". Granted, a Ragnarok-like event would likely play out there, and after WAR we could use a break from war as a story theme.

I think a visit to a Norse inspired planed could easily be done without resorting to the whole "The world is ending" spiel. Better to establish the plane first, and then if successful use the Ragnarok trope in a return, or better yet, not at all.
But if a Norse inspired set lacks a legendary squirrel, there will be riots. Well, no, not really, but I and my fellow Scandinavian's will send strongly worded emails to WotC complaining loudly about it. Give us a Ratatöskr expy or don't give us a Norse set at all.

This of course begs the question: Vikings as their own type or represented as Barbarians, Berserkers, and Warriors? As we've seen with Pirates and Ninjas, more specialized types can allow for more stylish decks, but that of course comes at the cost of backwards compatibility. Now, Raid can return as the Viking mechanic, but we did just get Raid in Ixalan, and that was a good 2-3 years after Tarkir introduced it. When we do get Vikings, no doubt Raid will be the mechanic of choice, so that right there might disqualify Norse world for the next set.
Since WAR has an unpleasant air about it, I'm thinking the next world could be something more pleasant like Kaladesh was after SOI. Someplace warm, someplace sunny.

Garruk is into fighting planeswalkers. Garruk is from an unnamed plane. Garruk is not in WAR. Maro said along the lines of 'we have other plans for Garruk which is why he is not in WAR.' We might be going to wherever he is from or where he is currently. A set with lots of planeswalker hate after a planeswalker heavy set. Hmm...

Garruk stopped being homicidal after his interaction with Jace and getting a Hedron stuck in him. The veilcurse was the primary cause of his serial killing tendencies. He told Jace that as long as planeswalkers would stay out of his way, he would leave them alone. He is currently more interested in hunting the most dangerous creatures in the multiverse.

What if the other planeswalkers dont stay out of his way? Every story has protagonist and antagonist walkers.
Then he will likely try and (likely succeed at) kill them.

Another possibility is Teyo's home. We might be going to "diamond storm" world sooner than we think. Maybe it's a world themed after gemstones? Perfect place for colored artifacts to appear in large numbers. Teyo could be from Diamond Dunes, then we can be introduced to the Marble Plains, Sapphire Sea, Onyx Swamp, Ruby Mountains, Emerald Forest...
Kasmina's home is also a possibility. Based on the name, I'm thinking some place with a Russian vibe.
