I think it has been hinted a few times, that the next plot after the Eldrazi and Bolas will be the Phyrexians, so I really think we will see them back soon. There might be a Set or two, that just set it up, so maybe a new Plane makes sense. I expect to see the surviving Planeswalkers to go different ways and maybe the next year from Rotation is showing sone connections to the Phyrexians and then reuniting them after that. I don't expect them to be as big as the Bolas plot, but Karn seems to be a big player in that story. I think it is a pretty good bet to see a Return to Theros, as most players would like to see Elspeth back and if Gideon dies (which seems really strange for me to see him die before we get to visit Theros with him, but maybe they will bring him to Theros, when he dies, that he can go the underworld?) it seems a good fit to get Elspeth as the mono White main character, that fits really good in a Phyrexian plot line. I really would love to see Dack and Ashiok back too. But I would be suprised if Theros was not at least one set in the 2019/2020 season. With the new set structure I can also see two plots being made together, so we will jump from one to the other after 1-2 sets and maybe mix at some point and most likely it will be dependend on what characters will die, but I don't expect one of their faces to die except for maybe Gideon. Personally I like to see favourite characters more frequently, but that doesn't mean we need more than one version per character in Standard and some rotation would be nice (e.g. see Tamiyo for two years instead of Jace as the blue PW or Elspeth instead of Gideon etc.).
I have a strong feeling about Teyo Verada replacing Gideon if (when) he dies. They have very similar abilities of protection magic (and Gideon's hieromancy is mostly ignored anyway), also Teyo is most likely white-aligned and much less masculine than Gideon which seems like a slam dunk for Wizards.
Would like to be wrong though.

But on a serious post they could have a 5 colour Norse or Viking themed set riddled with Ragemonger effects to help certain archetypes and colour schemes. Might be an idea.
I can't really see how they do a "Wild West" plane really. It just seems to modernized and less fantasy based. I can't see how they make handguns and typhus magic related.
Replace gunslining with spellslinging, and guns with crossbows, and you'd be fine. However, I don't think the Wild West plane is happening next. I think the most likely candidate is still the Norse base plane, particularly since MaRo has stated its a set he has tried to have happen for 10+ years.
It would also have a long enough distance that it would make Saga's doable after their creation in Dominaria (two core sets and three expansions later), which would make perfect flavor sense for a plane based on Iron Age Scandinavia. Varied ethnicities would also work just fine, there were plenty of immigration to Scandinavia from warmer locales, both willingly and unwillingly, so representation should be a non-issue. But a set based on Vikings better have a legendary squirrel, or we Scandinavian's are going to have issues.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
If they do a Viking set, I hope to see snow-covered lands. Not just from a thematic point, but expanding on the idea while also lowering the price barrier to entry with reprints of cards like snow-covered mountain and snow-covered island.
Could be both Angrath's homeworld and a world inspired by Vikings and Scandinavia.
After all, if they can put vampires, dinosaurs, and sirens in a world based of Mesoamerica during the invasion of the Spanish, then they can put minotaurs in "viking world".

A Viking world would be sweet. But I’d also like to see some of the planes walkers go back to their home plane and see what’s going on there. Origins kinda did it but I’d like to see each individual plane in all its glory from the feature planeswalkers perspective kinda like we saw kaladesh from Chandra’s perspective.

Fair point, I'd almost see it more if it was like a Van Hellsing style of world. The only issue is that Innistrad was basically that so it'd be hard to justify a relatively similar set that they went back to a couple of years ago. Setting-wise it seems viable, lore-wise I'm not sure how they could swing it.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

So a return to Innistrad or Ulgrotha then. Seriously, I think Innistrad 3.0 will be based on monster hunter movies now that they've picked of Classic Romantic Horror and Eldritch Cosmic Horror (although I feel the last one was mishandled with the use of the Eldrazi, particularly since we *just* had an Eldrazi focused block. And the ending was just plain bad. "Oh, I had some fun, I think I'll seal myself in the moon now, bye, bye.", honestly, they should have brought back the original Eldritch Plane Hopping Horror Marit Lage instead, that would have been more fun.)

Ashiok's homeplane, maybe? With all types of horrors and nightmares imaginable. I always imagined Ashiok being an average representative of his plane, and the plane itself having some awesome twist like "The world is a sphere with life dwelling on inner surface".

Don't quote me on this, but I'm almost entirely sure this is not the case and Ashiok wasn't born like the smoke-faced being that it currently is. Pretty sure I remember Ashiok doing some atrocious thing in a story and one more speck of its face falling apart?

Ashiok indeed wasn't originally in their current form. They used to be a normal Human/humanoid (possibly Kor or Elf?) who eventually had their facial features erased into the "gate of smoke" appearance by using nightmare magic.
Ulgrotha wouldn't necessarily be "new," although it IS convenient that they finally are giving a planeswalker card for Serra, based on one of the most prolific characters in Magic's history.
What would be cool, pardon the pun, is, as an homage to Magic's first "block," would be by going to Kaldheim, then to Ulgrotha, then back to Kaldheim again. Serra has a strong connection to Ulgrotha, what with her seeking refuge and eventually marrying Feroz there. It would be foolish not to capitalize on that. Ulgrotha may be a 9 on the Rabiah scale, but with Serra getting a card and back in people's minds, this might be the miracle needed to warrant a visit to the plane within the next year or so. I know I've vouched for its return a couple of times when the opportunity arose.

HR Analyst. Gamer. Activist | Fearless, and forthright | Aggro-control is a mindset. Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
Would Vryn count as a brand new world? I could see it being the start of some character development, but I don't expect Jace to be major player for the first Sets after Core 2020 and I think you cannot go to Vryn without him being the face of the set. I would say the same for Theros and Gideon, if Elspeth wasn't also mono White.
My prediction is: New World with some character development with at least one new (or new in War of the Spark) character and one major character. First Set with some hints to the Phyrexians. Second Set: Major Phyrexian Set with either invasion or Return to New Phyrexia or another Phyrexian world with getting information, that they knew plans, which Plane is next for an invasion. Maybe introducing that world after that plus gathering allies in the sets afterwards including Return to Theros to get Elspeth back - so maybe her homeworld is something, that plays a role? Maybe some of the Planes, that have been invaded, get us some information, how to beat them, Showdown on New Phyrexia?
Pretty sure we will get some kind of Gatewatch in it, but I doubt, they will go full in. They might even split them and do two major plot lines for the next time. I could easily see Jace beeing stuck on Ravnica, as he has work to do there. Maybe Gideons death brings us to Theros, too. And maybe we get more of Liliana, if she survives, but I can't see them killing more than one of the 5 big ones.

His plane is dusty and broad stores that have Ben in business longer than he was alive
And he has a foundry which is used for making metal castings
Might be a Wild West plane but could still be Viking focused
A "brand new" plane that they've wanted to visit for a decade? That would imply leaving out any locations mentioned in Planechase that we haven't been to yet, meaning we will not be visiting:
Twenty six named planes yet unvisited, some of which have been player and Vorthos requests for decades (Segovia and Shandalar in particular), yet we'll be heading off to a brand new plane. Kaldheim looks like it might have made a good Viking world, but... let's go somewhere else.

It may still be a renamed Kaldheim, just like Tarkir was a renamed Mongseng. WotC has a tendency to do that if they think they either can't get the name as a registered trademark or it'll be offensive to the natives of the region it is based on (and as a Scandinavian, I can tell you, we would in no way be offended by Kaldheim. That said, it is a possibility.
