My guess is that it will be a Nordic / viking based plane, possibly Angrath's home. Then I suspect that the Winter set will be Return to Theros followed by Rescue from the Underworld. They may do that all in one set, but I suspect they might give Theros two sets so that they don't need to expend too many art resources generating another new world in the year.
Nordic world sounds possible, but what would be the plants for it now? We don't exactly have a lot of Dwarf, Elf, or Giant tribal running around.
I wonder if Ral, Vraska, and Kaya's hunts for Tezzeret, Dovin, and Liliana are going to play out in the near future. Will they be the focus of their own sets? Will they be background events? Or will they be resolved independent of any set's story?
And how about Garruk? Will he resume hunting planeswalkers, since that's supposed to be his shtick? I could have seen him getting a Core Set with quarries he's hunted or is hunting, like Vronos, "Icy", Liliana, Sarkhan, and Arlinn (those last two are speculative, based on what Garruk might find to be worthy prey). But by the sounds of it he's coming back sooner than that.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Bag of Holding explicitly crosses the streams in black border. Yes in the PAST they have wanted to keep them separate, however with the growing popularity of D&D, the success of the Ravinca book, this is the perfect opportunity for a set based on D&D lore. Hell idc if it’s a brand new world or not, the feel of an adventure world not Zendikar with it’s heavy destruction, would be great.
If you think the concept of a Bag of Holding is exclusive to D&D, then you'd be wrong. The concept originally comes from older fantasy literature.
Mary Poppins was rocking a bag of holding 10 years before DnD first came out.
One, I don’t believe it’s exclusive to D&D
Two both of your points are irrelevant for the very simple reason, WotC doesn’t (typically) go by historical context but pop culture ones. Not only that but MaRo already confirmed that it’s a straight up D&D reference when it was spoiled
ugh, to each his own I guess. A Wild west set would honestly make me stop playing for a while.

And she wasn't even the first. There were references to things like that at least as far back as the Tales of Scheherazade/Arabian Nights (It's what Jandor's Saddlebags references).

Garruk no longer hunts Planeswalkers as of his DLC to Duels '15. Jace inserted a hedron in him that got the curse under control, and Garruk said he would stop hunting planeswalkers. He'd still kill them if they got in his way (or were Lily), but he no longer actively hunts them.
my bet:
nordic/viking theme, with snow theme (lands as non full art), gods and a white villain
If it is a nordic/viking theme, it won't have snow lands. Rosewater pretty much nixed that recently in his blog. He said snow lands are more likely to show up again in a supplemental set than a standard set.

More likely in supplemental =/= as not going to appear in a standard legal set.
He said the same about Madness, and then Shadows over Innistrad happened. Anything that isn't an 11 on the Storm Scale can technically appear. And that means pretty much everything but Bands with other and substance can technically appear in a future standard legal set, it's just more or less likely.

I don't know how cagey he gets with potential spoilers, but I'm just guessing that if snow lands were going to appear in the very next Standard set, he might not have said it quite like he did. We'll see.

He often is quite cagey with his answers as he works 7 years ahead of where we’re currently at (about 2 years in full set design mode). While he knows somewhat about things in that 2 year period, the answers to the Storm Scale is at them moment he answers. Even then sometimes mechanics get changed by the other two teams after he hands the set off
With the snow mechanic being added to Modern Horizons more as an afterthought than an actual mechanic, I would not expect them to put Snow lands and Snow permanents in Standard anytime soon.
I mean, if they already had in mind a snow-themed plane after War of the Spark, why bother even adding snow to MH1?

Because snow-based decks needed support in modern. Which was the entire point of Modern Horizons, a way to give tier 2 and tier 3 modern decks a boost to create a more varied metagame as well as to add a few old cards directly to modern without going through standard first.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
I don't expect Snow permanents in Standard any time soon and MH1 is an exception with much more complexity.
I have no clue, where we will go to, but the things we know:
Chandra is the face of M20 so she might be really important going forward and she seems to be the face of the new Netflix series as well.
The core sets hints at some things in the next year of Standard - I fully expect Theros and bringing back Elspeth as the new default white PW is one of them. The only things, that speak against it is, that the fall set most likely will have the next cycle of lands, so there will be an equal ammount. Otherwise the Core Set doesn't need to have five, unless they would be a big flavour fail in the fall set. If the next set has temples and Gods, I doubt we will get third cycle for Standard, so maybe no Theros?
We have minor stories with Kaya, Ral and Vraska hunting Dovin, Liliana and Tezzeret.
Garruk might be part of some Story.
Phyrexia might be the next big Story arc, which would make sense with Elspeth coming back. Tezzeret could be Father of the Machines, but I would expect to get this started slowly. But I think it is most likely, that we will see the start of it in the fall.
Mark will be making the fall set announcement at his SDCC panel. It’s incredibly irritating that they are not streaming it on Twitch, nor recording it. Like, come the f*** on WotC, get your crap together.
Man... a brand new world, huh? WotC has been pretty thematic with their worlds recently. A lot of them based off of real-life cultures and places. I kind of want something weird though; like a Dune/John Carter world. Also preferably nothing with big ugly spires or hedrons in its artwork. Can we please get some basic lands with actually interesting art?
Nordic world sounds possible, but what would be the plants for it now? We don't exactly have a lot of Dwarf, Elf, or Giant tribal running around.
Not every set needs a tribal focus. It turned me off of Ixalan.
I think a legendary theme (including many lands, artifacts, and equipment) would make complete sense with such a world, and you could consider the planeswalker theme of WAR to be a plant for that. Sagas are also perfect, but they wouldn't wanna just redo Dominaria's themes...
Many people including myself have already made plenty of predictions for a Nordic world. I think it would not have a heavy tribal theme, or a snow theme. But a Nordic world is a "when" not an "if". If it's not coming now, it'll be here soon enough. Those of us who want to see such a world need only be patient.
I don't wanna see a wild west world, and I think I'm not alone. Do we need Jace in a cowboy hat and chaps? We do not. That doesn't mean they won't do it though.
I'd frankly like to see something a little more original than an X or Y themed world. I'd rather have them build something new from the ground up than have another "let's do Greek mythology, but MTG" sort of plane.

To be fair the tribal focus on ixalan was kinda cancerous, like, have you read the fatpack booklet? Tribal this tribal that pirates fishman dinosaurs vampire tribal that tribal this tribal all. They got things right in Rivals, but Ixalan (first set) looks like a filer set.
But ye, tribal again would not be boring. We got 2 tribal sets recently, one bad (ixalan) and one good (Modern Horizons (as a seccundary theme))
I don't like to see another legendary/historic theme but maybe if we get gods and sagas could be nice, sagas would fit on all the enchantment support we got lately. And if devotion returns in the nordic world every color pushed card we got recently would fit into a theme too.
If they do a Nordic world, will the reveal trailer have a warrior in a horned helmet shouting at foes? Will there be a card depicting a guard taking an arrow in the knee from a stealth archer? Will sweet rolls get stolen? Will players get honest pay for honest work?

no, but there will be a person throwing other people in the air by shouting in their face.

I agree. I think Kaladesh was the most original recent set they've done. Yeah it had some Indian and "punk" inspired aesthetics, but it was very original compared to everything else they've been doing recently. It's one of my favourite sets and definitely my favourite plane. I particularly love the "swirly" nature and design. All that aether flowing through the air and nature giving it all that special look.
Kaladesh proves that Wizards can design a plane with an original look that's not really inspired by "This is the greek set, this is the egyptian set, this is the old time horror set"
I want to see more stuff like Kaladesh, Zendikar, Phyrexians and stuff like that.
That being said, a Nordic themed set would be cool as ***** and it's ******* ripe with lore, creatures, snow, gods, boats, equipment and archetypes for Wizards to make an awesome set!
And yes! Slap horns and wings on the helmets! So what if it's not historically correct, it looks cool. I'm a giant Danish dude myself and I won't start crying out about it if they have horns on them. Please do put them on!
The only thing I'm worried about is nu-wizards' artwork depictions LOL
