Well yeah, since GRN and RNA will likely already give us 3-4 apiece, I'm mostly just expecting Ajani and Bolas in Set 3.
But, what does any of that have to do with Ravnica cycles speculation? Don't we have a topic for discussing planeswalkers in Ravnica 3?
I think we will get as many as five planeswalkers in each Ravnica set, three in the set proper, and two different ones in the Planeswalker decks. This will allow WotC to show off all (or most) of the planeswalkers relevant to the story.
Eh its Planeswalkers War and WOTC needs to pump sales. Not that it especially matters most Walkers are unlikely to be strong enough to do much.
As for what is next New Phyrexia and Theros are on deck.
What do you guys make of the Chandra Comic? Seems overblown to me I seriously doubt WOTC has the balls to do anything major on Ravnica. Maybe Bolas will cross out Jaya but I seriously doubt he is destroying most of Ravnica and killing half the Gatewatch.
At least one character will die, without a doubt. Likely one of the heroes. My money is on Beefslab/Gideon kicking the bucket. Jace is to popular, and we know Chandra survives. A lot of people would be seriously peeved if they killed of Jaya, now that we've finally gotten her back, Teferi is out of the question, and Ajani still has a stuff to do. People would also get angry if Tamiyo would die, which leaves, well, Gideon. He is the most expendable of them. As for on the villain side, I expect Vraska to die in a Heel-face turn betraying Bolas at a crucial moment and going out in a blaze of glory after getting her mind restored by Jace. I expect Ral to get eaten by Niv-Mizzet (or flee), Tezzeret being the traitorous scum he is will also betray Bolas if he senses weakness, which may or may not lead to his death, same for Lily, although I think the veil and/or the Raven Man will save her ass.
Where is everybody getting from that WotC is doing bad/needs to pump sales? I have seen multiple people claiming that recently. Is there actual data for that or are people just making stuff up?
For the guildmage cycle: Maybe they'll do tap abilities this time around? That way they could keep the "one ability for each color" template while putting a slight spin on it.
People are making stuff up, as usual. There is always someone that shouts "doom and gloom" when WotC doesn't make a product that they dislike for some inane reason.
Sure but then the question arises who is getting the good stuff and who is getting Planeswalker Deck Trash?
I hope Jaya gets another crack considering how bad her current walker is especially with Chandra TOD rotating out.
Other than the Gatewatch (Chandra, Jace, Gideon, Teferi, and Ajani) and Bolas's Crew (Bolas, Vraska, Tez, Lily, and Ral) we don't actually know who else will show up for the big showdown other than Tamiyo (mostly because we have her art). If Jaya isn't in the story, it is unlikely she'll get a card.
It is likely we will get the last of the Rav walkers (Domri), and it is possible that others with a personal stake will make an appearance as well (Samut, Ugin, Sarkhan, Vivien), but we could literally get anyone. Of the planeswalkers we know only three have anywhere near enough power to go toe to toe with Bolas, and of those Ajani knows that he got lucky. Either of the other two (Ugin and Karn) could show up, but both are keenly aware of just how powerful Bolas is and are unlikely to confront him directly. Although, to be fair, as far as I am aware, Bolas does not currently know that Ugin still lives...
What would be hilarious though, is if Amanitou appears in the last set and alters Bolas's destiny so that he loses the battle for Ravnica. It would be glorious for the Elder Dragon to be brought low by an eight year old girl.
I do not think it likely, just hilarious.
And we still don't know what Bolas actually wants from Ravnica.

Please under our current crop of writers Karn has no chance. Karn, Teferi and Jaya all together with half a dozen other characters as backup could not do crap to Urgoros the Empty One. Yeah I know I disagree with that writing buts it Canon that they are all weak jobbers, SMFH.
Who is the third besides Karn, Ugin? Am I forgetting someone?

From the last Dominaria story they had Karn and Jaya agree to help with Bolas but neither wanted to join officially (Jaya saying she's not a "joiner" and Karn wanted to leave to deal with Phyrexia right after Bolas), so it possible for them to get cards (though I think unlikely since they just got cards in Dominaria).
From the poster with the Tamiyo card there is also art of Jace, Liliana and Ral on Ravnica, as well as Ajani, Teferi and Karn maybe on Ravnica.

I think that guild leaders, champions and shock lands are pretty much a part of modern so I'd expect them to be in.I'm hoping they don't do guild mages and would prefer karoo lands over gates
Guildmages with tap abilities is an interesting notion. Provided untapping isn't too cheap or plentiful, you can potentially make some stronger abilities than if they just used mana payment. Or, maybe this time they have triggered abilities, like whenever you cast a spell of the appropriate color? Though to avoid repeating Shadowmoor's accidental color pie breaking, the Guildmages might still be gold themselves or their abilities might require paying mana of the appropriate color, so that way when you cast a W/U or R/W hybrid spell, the Orzhov Guildmage that lets you gain life off a white spell isn't in fact letting you gain life off what's effectively a monoblue or monored spell in a UB or BR deck.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:

You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Ajani, and he is the only one to straight up beat Bolas. But as I said, he admits he got lucky. But I think his real strength lies in collecting allies and buffing them.

I would not mind a cycle of two colored "Guild Battlemages". I.e. Izzet Battlemage, with two tap abilities in the guilds colors. I.e. 2R, T: Do red effect and 2U, T: Do blue effect. It's a nice alternative to the repeatability of the guildmages, and causes you to chose one or the other instead of having access to both.
But honestly, and I've mentioned this before. What I am looking the most forward to is land art in autumn colors.

That's the main strike against the Battlemage idea: That it prevents you from combining the colors together for a stronger effect, unless they're set up to combo over two turns. Triggered abilities can easily be combined by casting spells of both colors; in fact, that's a fantastic way to encourage playing each Guildmage in their own guild's deck. My instinct is that each one should trigger off casting spells of the appropriate colors, but the triggers can also care about permanents of the appropriate colors. And if the Guildmages are gold this time, we don't have to worry as much about hybrid breaking color pie; if the Orzhov card that gains you 1 life every time you cast a white spell is WB, then gaining life off a W/U or R/W spell isn't a problem since you had to have white mana to gain that life in the first place.

Can't combine the effects of all the existing Guildmages either. The Izzet Guildmage for example affects only Instants or Sorceries depending on which mode you use.

That why I'm in favor of maybe a hybrid mana cost for the guildmage and having them have a hybrid mana weaker abilities and a two color pushed ability. While drafting you could play them in any deck that uses the color and get a use out the creature but rewards you for playing that creature in the right guild.

Okay, not all Guildmage abilities combo together. But you can still use them both in the same turn as long as you have enough mana.

They might reprint Loxodon Smiter, Counterflux, and Abrupt Decay if they want a "can't be countered" cycle, though a Golgari creature with "can't be countered" would be a bit more fitting for green's color pie. They might give Selesnya a multicolored X-cost spell as it was the only Guild not to get one in RTR block. Guild commands have been requested, so I think there's a good chance they happen this time. Ten commands between two sets is a lot of effects to cram, though.

I agree we don't have much time for Lili after the Raven Man...trust me I want Lili dead or gone, I grow tired of her skating by on her crimes. But she has Raven Man, Karn has New Phyrexia, Teferi has New Phyrexia and Zhalfir and Jace has Vryn.
Gideon does have history on Theros. But if Elspeth comes back she can take care of Revenge on the Gods Arc.
I actually say Chandra is an easy kill but we know she is still alive. So that leaves Nissa and Vraska and Jaya.
I seriously doubt Vivian got introduced to be cannon fodder. Whereas its clear WOTC has no idea what to do with Nissa.
True which god they have beefs with is different but I don't think Elspeth is going to be in that merciful of a mood...maybe Karametra and Ephara can skate.

They know exactly what to do with Nissa. If they didn't know what to do with her, they would have killed her off. Instead she was the voice of reason that Gideon ignored because "but Liliana says", never mind that Liliana is a literal monster that has killed thousands of innocents, murdered her way across the planes, and, quite obviously, used the Gatewatch to kill off her remaining Demons. Heck, if the Bolas clause in her contract hadn't kicked in, she'd be well on her way to being a Big Bad. Now she is just a Co-Dragon together with Tezz, Vraska, and Ral. So Nissa got frustrated with the Gatewatch and left to help rebuild Zendikar (and according to her Hour of Devastation Planeswalker Deck, Amonkhet). She is probably one of the most powerful members of the team, and she just added some blue to her green elemental magic. She'll be back eventually.

I think we will get the guild leader cycle for sure and we know that Aurelia will be the Boros Leader. Vraska should be the Golgari Leader if Bolas keeps his promise. We will get some kind of artifact mana fixing for each guild and we will get some kind of new guild related land (or reprint of gates or bounce lands).
Maybe we get some kind of revolt rare legendary creature cycle. Feather, Jarad, Teysa... I don't know if all guilds has the some kind of tension but some could be Bolas shenanigans to destroy ravnicas defense without being active himself.
Gate reprints definitely seem possible, so they can introduce more Gates matter cards.
Jarad? Well, if you want an artifact Zombie Elf with defender as the face of the Golgari revolution... More likely it'd be Myc seeking vengeance for his father's petrification. Hey, if Jarad can become a lich, no doubt he'd teach his boy how to do so as well. That or watch him become mulch for a rot farm.
