Hey, as the May Announcement Day is imminent I thought it’d be fun to get a discussion going on what we expect them to announce regarding unknown products. Please keep the speculation factually based.
I suspect, with the leaked dwarf common, Dominaria’s saproling/fungi themes and plane ‘short list’ that...
The next ‘non-return’ set will have an ‘Underground World’ theme complete with Dwarves, Ratfolk, Fungi/saprolings, Goblins, etc
Additionally I suspect the next ‘Return’ set to be Theros, due to the prevalence of Devotion empowering cards and strong rare and uncommon enchantments.

I think its a bit too soon for Theros this fall, but it is nearing the time that they like to return to worlds, unless they pull a fast one and announce a return to Lorwyn, Alara or New Phyrexia.
As far as any new worlds my bets (and a bit of hope) goes to Viking/Norse plane.

Alara is higher (in terms of likelihood) on the Rabiah Scale than the other two, and we haven't had a three-colored set since Tarkir. So I wouldn't count it out.
While Norse plane would be neat, I'm actually hoping for Vryn.

I wasn't counting any of those three out, in terms of retuning world the possibilities (imo looking at popularity and how long we been away from the world) at this point are Alara, Lorwyn, New Phyrexia and Ravncia with Theros close by. Out of those I except Theros and Ravnica more, since Lorwyn has a lot of issues, Alara needs a bit of clean (since the shards are merged, the plane and factions need some redesigning) and I think they going to wait to bring back New Phyrexia for their time as big bad for the gatewatch after Bolas.
And I forgot about Vryn and the other planes that haven't gotten a real set as possibilities, though again I could see them waiting for Vryn like New Phyrexia since Jace is more focused on protecting Ravnica.
Anyway I don except a new plane soon since we just had three new ones back to back.

1. If we have a non return world, I can see them combining things. Remember Ixalan, it was dinosaur world, mesoamerican world, and pirate world. So I can see them do a underground world and Viking world where maybe you have goblins and saprolings underground but Norse on the surface. Dwarfs can sort of live in both since I see dwarfs as Norse and underground.
2. As cool as a new world would be nice I really don’t see it soon (maybe spring 2019). Keep in mind we’ve had 3 new planes in a row so I feel they’ll ease off with new planes a bit. Ravnica is my bet. Keep in mind it’s still 25th anniversary so while Dominaria was their first place, Ravinca was arguably one of the most popular so I can revisiting it for that reason before the year ends.

Actually, the Norse mythology fits something like this quite well, with the multiple realms located at various levels of the World-tree. In short, the gods and elves live above, in the middle is the human world, world of giants, ice world, fire world and Vanaheim (basically a different kind of gods) and below is the dwarf (or dark elf) world and the world of the dead, so the part-underground plane would fit it like a glove. And yes, I know that this is a very simplified description.
What you guys seem to completely forget, is that we only visit planes that are important to the story, and you don't need to read the lore for more then 10 minutes to know that Ravnica is currently the most important plane in the story.
Before thinking about which plane would be cool to visit, you need to think about which plane would any of the current protagonist/antagonist's visit, because those are the planes we are going to visit.

Ravnica is where the final showdown will likely take place, but it's not quite the time for the final showdown yet. First, the Gatewatch must regroup and solve their crisis and who knows how many other pieces Bolas needs for his ultimate puzzle. From storytelling perspective, this is the point where everyone on the team faces their weaknesses to be ready to take on the bad guy at the end. Chandra will likely spend a while under the mentoring of Mother Luti Jaya, either on Regatha or elsewhere. Gideon and Ajani both have strong tier to Theros, so they could go battle their personal demons there. Nissa went to help restore Zendikar, but there's a question whether she is coming back at all and regrowing stuff doesn't sound very eventful unless Ob Nixilis decides to wreck some ***** once more. Plus, literally any plane where they could go recruit more allies or find some MacGuffins. So, there you have planes which the protagonists would visit, just off the top of my head. After that, the grand finale on Ravnica.
I can picture one set on zendikar showing how Nissa is dealing with the situation, possibly going to seek help from Ugin and like you said Ob coming to cause problems again which results in the final battle showcasing what she learned from Ugin. Ugin doesn't really seem like the type to help some random person but i'm sure if she mentions Bolas he might be willing to.
It could give Nissa some much needed character development and growth. Nahiri could also possibly show up some where.
Come on, Ugin, Nissa, Nahiri and Ob on Zendikar seems like it can make for some awesome story. And yes I am being bias.
I too think it is waay too early for the final fight with Bolas on Ravnica, I think I remember Maro stating that the next block after the Core isn’t a Return set but I could be mistaken.
Mechanically though, what clues have we from the seeded creature types, deck archetypes, casting costs, etc?
Edit: I bet the announcement comes tomorrow at the earliest or Friday at the latest.
I believe Dominaria is the set with the major Fungus/Saproling theme and has been hinted with Rivals of Ixalan minor Saproling theme.
Concerning return planes we have Ravnica and New Phyrexia with upcoming critical events in the story. I guess Ravnica will happen sooner than New Phyrexia, so it might be hinted in this annoucement. Though I believe they'll still go somewhere else to gather more allies before Ravnica: Infinity War.
I guess a return to Theros is also iminent. Rescuing Elspeth, meeting Gideon's past and adding Ashiok to the Gatewatch's enemies team seems likely. And Elspeth being realted to Phyrexians indicates she's a possible ally for the New Phyrexia quest.
For new planes we've been hinted about Regatha, Vryn, Kaldheim, whatever plane Angrath is from, norse mythology plane and maybe rome based plane.
Regatha and Vryn are directly related to Chandra and Jace, and since we had sets focusing on both of them recently (Kaladesh and Ixalan) I don't think we're going there that soon. In fact, Gideon is the one lacking this throwback moment, so Theros seems very likely to me. Nissa too, but she just left for Zendikar. But I think we'll eventually meet her, either with or without the rest of the Gatewatch around.
Other character that I guess will be soon reintroduced to the story is Garruk. Nut sure where he's wandering right now though.
Other than main standard sets we might see more info on Commander 2018, whatever Master Set they are planning for the upcoming months, some deck product and maybe a Brawl focused deck.
Here are some things we can expect to see potentially (I tried to keep these predictions pragmatic and relatively conservative):
Beginning of Battlebond Spoilers including return mechanics Soulbond and Surge along with new legendary creatures that are friendly for the Commander format.
Announcement of standard set after Core 2019 (likely to be revisit to Ravnica plane) which will also include a return of Masterpices.
Announcement of second expansion from revisit to Ravnica plane.
Announcement of Standard set to follow the revisit to Ravnica plane (perhaps return to Theros but will almost certainly be another return plane if not Return to Theros).
Announcement of Modern Masters 2019 (likely to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2019).
More information about Magic The Gathering: Arena.
Note: I think they will keep us in the dark about Commander 2018 and Core 2019 spoilers, although maybe we will get a small nugget.
I predict no card spoilers at all just artworks and only one unknown set (the one after C19) to be named.
The winter set and anything after that will be revealed on the announcement day in fall.
Prove me wrong Wizards!
Last year during announcement day, Wizards announced Ixalan, Explorers of Ixalan and (return to) Dominaria.
I'm gonna go left field, and base it off of the story lines current plot. It may come down to a second Dominaria block. As they mentioned initially, they could continue on a plane, if they felt that there was more resolution, or player draw to be had, which I could see both being possibilities. If this was the case, our "Return" set would occur in the Spring. This would also give Wizards the opportunity to continue to perfect incoming sets.

Thank you your the first one to actually remember that.
That they could just continue on the same plane despite no more multiple sets.
Part of the reason of singleton planes is so they don't have to do 2 from older set and 4 from the new set.
Announcing that they're staying on Dominaria for the Fall set would make sense considering the pace at which the story is evolving. It would make sense that there's another batch of stories to come before we leave Dominaria.
I would be very happy with another Dominaria set after M19. Its presumed high density of legendary creatures would also bee a good way to fuel Brawl, so... yeah, why not.
Do we know whether core sets will add to the lore or exist as a non-story set detached from everything else?

Ravnica tends to have a pretty high legendary ratio as it is. We generally get one Leader and one Champion per guild. If they haven't been replaced, I expect new cards for Borborgymos, Rakdos, and Niv-Mizzet. It's a bit harder to predict the other guilds however, but I hope Isperia still leads the Azorius, even though she was looking for a replacement last we visited the plane.

Their are a support to be a story element to them, more back ground info or set up for future stories (I'd guess like Magic Origins, Nahiri commander stories we got a a year or so before SOI) and they mentioned they had hired an author to write the stories.
