It's been a while since we've seen a Mox or Lotus themed artifact. Not even Unstable had a reference, while past Un-sets had Blacker Lotus and Mox Lotus. Do you think we'll see a new variation in Dominaria for the 25th anniversary? Or is that kind of design a thing WotC wants to leave in the past (or at least out of Standard)?
I think I read somewhere that Kaladesh had a mox, but it turned out that it was impossible to develop to a place where it was exciting looking and not broken, so they dropped it.
It can very well be that moxen are a thing of the past, since creating a 0-cost artifact that taps for mana is so hard to develop.
A lotus could perhaps be easier, since there is precedent that lotuses (Gilded Lotus, Lotus Vale) need not be tied to 0-cost, it is more the "produce 3 mana" that is the defining quality of lotus.

Or we could get some garbage like Lotus Cobra that is not an artifact, does not cost 0, and does not produce 3 mana.
I think we could see them, but then again I thought that same thing with Origins and with any odd set during a big anniversary year.
Lotus is easy enough to make something that doesn't have to make three mana at a time. Mox is a bit more odd, but I think they could do it, perhaps a mox land that's also a creature, like Dryad Arbor. A 1/1 land creature that can make a mana of any color would be decent.
What about an Elf that produces an artifact token named something like Lotus Bloom? Could be called Lotus Tender or somesuch.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
What about an Elf that produces an artifact token named something like Lotus Bloom? Could be called Lotus Tender or somesuch.
a 1/1 creature that could tap to make treasures would have to cost at least 2cmc. that wouldn't exactly be exciting.
a better way to make a new mox or lotus, and wotc has done this time and time again, is to retain the original utility of the card but with an alternative drawback. so you could have Mox Jade, which would cost 0 but you have to exile a creature when it etb. and it could then add mana that would match that creature. this greatly restricts it's usage BUT, it still costs 0 and it still taps for colored mana. i could literally sit here and come up with a million variations on moxen with different restrictions...but the key is that the basic card is the same so that it has the same splash value.
What about an Elf that produces an artifact token named something like Lotus Bloom? Could be called Lotus Tender or somesuch.
You mean something like Sailor of Means but a Lotus Petal instead of a treasure (I'm a little surprised no one mentioned Lotus Petal.) If it were 0/1 they might be able to lower the cost to something like 1G or even G since it's not a repeatable mana source.
There's a big part of me that's hoping to see Llanowar Elves reprinted... but knowing they don't go lower than 2 CMC on mana dorks anymore makes that extremely unlikely.

Rose tint my world, keep me safe from my trouble and pain.
Well, it was a nod to Bloom Tender as well as Lotus Bloom. And I could totally go for a rare Elf that makes a Bloom token. Or heck, let's go straight for the source and call it a Black Lotus token. They could also make a vertical cycle.
And while we're at it, what if we saw other references to the P9 and reserved list cards? Imagine a cycle of Mox Golems that all tap for M, or a Goblin referencing Powder Keg. A sorcery that creates a 2/2 white Spirit creature token with flying and first strike? Ooh, how about a mythic rare green card that turns all your lands into Lotus Vales?
Shoot, I could see many of the set's rares and mythics paying homage to expensive and reserved staples, albeit rebalanced for today's Standard and adjusted so as not to violate the spirit of the Reserved List.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Seems like a reasonable guess that we'll see some off-brand reprints of iconic cards. The rifts may provide a convenient lore excuse to have some old things lying around. Since we're inventing ways to do this, here's my stab at one:
Mana Rox 0
Artifact - Offbrand
T: add C to your mana pool at the beginning of your next main phase. The temporal rifts were healed many years ago, but here and there, little trinkets got left behind.
Last Mox 0
Legendary Artifact (M) Mythos- Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool. Activate this ability only if you control three or more legendary permanents. Tales of power and legend once broke through Dominaria. One relic of those days may yet remain.
Oh god that would ruin modern, You realize Mox Opal is already a legendary Artifact right?
Karn, Synthesized 0cc
Planeswalker - Karn
2 loyalty
+1 Target opponent reveals a card in his hand at random, you lose 2 life.
-2 Add one colorless mana to your mana pool, exile the top 5 cards from your library.
-7 Exile all permanents from the game.
Flavor: After Karn was liberated, Karn was bound again, this time turned into a Mox/Trinket (Think espers of Final Fantasy 3). May be a little bit too good, but Chalice of the Void at 0, abrupt decay, repeal and lightning bolt are pretty good at keeping it contained. Colorless mana and exiling (from 2 zones: board and deck, instead of board and hand) are themed accordingly.
-2
Exiling the top 5 cards makes it so that you can accidentally blow yourself out of the game by exiling winconditions, especially for combo decks, like Tendrils of Agony and ties into Karn's exiling. Karn, Synthesized starts at 2 so it takes at least 2 turns to get 2 mana activations out of it, which keeps it a bit more balanced for the combo players out there. The additional damage also makes it more dangerous for combo to play against tempo and burn decks compared to using lotus petal.
+1
The +1 mirrors the +4 of Karn Liberated. The damage ensures Karn Synthesized isn't better than an Ancient Tomb and references Shahrazad (and thus Karn Liberated's ultimate). Although it's possible to now drop turn 1 Trinisphere, you would lose your Karn, Synthesized and the next one would cost 3 mana.
-7
The ultimate costs -7 mimicking the mana cost of Karn Liberated. The -7 costs a lot of turns and half your life. Shahrazad also eat half your life, and the -7 sort of 'restarts' the game the same way Karn Liberated and Shahrazad do. The idea is that Karn, Synthesized shatters and explodes its power onto the world, destroying everything.
This would be a high impact card, for being the first 0 mana planeswalker; which fits Karn since it is one of the most iconic characters of the game and is very important to magic's storyline. Auto-restricted in Vintage. Not sure whether the ultmate should exile non-land permanents instead.
The art should be a based on Darksteel Relic; but this time charged with the spirit of Karn.
Everyone take a look again at the artwork WotC released for the upcoming set. You can see flower petals (possibly Lotus petals) either flowing out of or into Teferi's staff. I noticed this the day the artwork came out and commented on it but no one seemed to want to discuss it. Maybe Teferi is bringing back colored mana via Lotus Petals to restore Urborg in that picture, maybe not.
I'm guessing we see something Lotus related in Dominaria. Not sure how strong or playable it will be but that picture says a lot.
