I'm at least happy to see that it is not going to be about the movie, but something that is actually game-relevant. I still believe it's about KTK, but by now it must be more than a simple "twist" to the draft structure. Perhaps the way Dewey works with both Huey and Louie requires something far far out of the box (think on the level of Double-Faced cards).

I myself am excited on how Tarkir block was designed given the middle set has a sual identity.

Maybe it's all a psychological trick, like his 'Inception' article, that made 30% of readers believe they'd read an article that never actually existed. The title will be something like 'Mental Tricks', and the whole reason people will 'be talking about it' is because he got us all talking about it before it even came out. And that will all fit in with a look at the importance of previews, linking Duel Decks with upcoming sets, and other stuff that 'pre-engages' the community.
It's going to be a new color, card type, or something that fundamentally changes the way users/fans interact with how cards are made or sold. There are very few other things that would be big enough to effect all types of Magic the Gathering players.

A special one-off release of "What If" versions of cards from early MtG: but they've all been errata-style edited to show what they WOULD have been liked if they were made nowadays. Eg. Weakening of certain spells and non-creature permanents (Ancestral Recall for 1UU; Moxen for 2); and lower costs and/or better power/toughness and abilities on creatures (Force of Nature as a straight 8/8 trample; Grey Ogre as a 2/2 haste; Spirit of the Night at 3BBB), etc. [It'd have to be silver-bordered, of course].
This might explain why they've been talking about over-powered cards and R&D 'mistakes' so much over the past two weeks... and culminating in Stoddard's Development article on Friday - just before the announcement.
Maro confirmed he's not retiring. Also, as far as the rarity stuff, I don't see that being that exciting unless it was a new rarity that was more common than mythics even then I wouldn't see that as something that would fundamentally affect the entire MTG community.
i guess the answer to the question in the title is that we simply wait 1 day longer from now.

It's almost certainly the announcement of the new Standard environment, in which six or eight sets are current at all times like Extended used to be, and one set leaves when a new set joins, rather than the whole Block getting dumped.
The Khans set is backwards; the first set is really the last set and as we travel backwards through time we progress through the set in reverse chronological order.

On a serious note I bet it's a new layout for standard as what sets you can use. I bet it will be like 7 sets, and then when one set is added another is removed.

I assume that the guesses he is referring to are the ones in this post, so according to him, some of the guesses here make up part of what's going on.
Just to put out one more theory for the fun of it, but since this block was stated to be a block that crosses time, and I recall hearing it will have lasting implications on the future, I'm wondering if this announcement has something to do with that. This block goes back and changes time, and we have Magic Origins. Magic's Color Identities could be what is about to change in the set. Color identities is part of design I would expect.

Burn can no longer be "redirected" through players to Planeswalkers.
Burn can only hit 'walkers if it's printed on the card (ie. Fated Conflagration).
Kiora spikes for Standard (probably along with every other walker).
LotV doubles in price overnight from Modern and basically every format she's allowed in.
Last card spoiled is a Lightning Bolt variant that has the new "target Planeswalker" clause.
Prices drop back to the same as before the announcement.

That first part isn't actually as crazy as it may seem. They're really trying to push Planeswalkers (especially their ultimates), and changing the rules so that burn can't steamroll over Planeswalkers goes with the same sentiment of making creature removal more difficult.

If I recall correctly, Emblems already *do* go to the command zone. They just still can't be dealt with. (Except Karn reset.)
