adamacus said: The articles after state of design 2013, 2012 and 2011 were all spoiler articles for the upcoming fall set. What is special about this year?
Check out next Monday’s column and see. : )
I’ll say this. This time next week, Blogatog (and the rest of Magic social media) will be talking about my article. : )
So it seems as if he will be talking about the fall set, but there will not be previews? Will we get some details on the block structure? Announcing "Dragons of Tarkir" perhaps? Or is that too soon? We haven't really arrived yet, so haven't had the time to "miss" the dragons yet..
It seems really hard to imagine that it'll be an announcement about the block. I think it's possible we'll hear more details about the movie, or just something new entirely which makes it hard to speculate on. Whatever it is will be big, so I have a hard time imagining it'd be Dragons of Tarkir either.
I don't know, "Making Magic" doesn't strike me as the most natural place to make announcement about the movie. And the response to adamacus that I cited above seems to be implying that the article will have spoiler material related to the fall set somehow.
A reboot of the MTG RPG game from the 90's, Shandalar!
On a more serious note, probably something about KTK to help us get even more excited (or for those not excited yet, at least to a moderate kind of level). Although the idea he could talk about the movie... that is one I will secretly hope for... because with the way previous game-to-movie adaptations have gone there is cause for concern. I would imagine he might want to allay concerns. Perhaps tell us of the main character or plane.
This is a bold statement. Interested to see what it's all about.
Speaking of the mothership... I never remember to browse to it and check out the articles anymore. I used to check out the articles when they'd pop up in my RSS feed, but since the site redesign, the RSS feed I used to have linked doesn't work anymore. I've already tried finding a new RSS link on their site and I couldn't find it... Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get the Magic articles (and D&D for that matter!) back to my RSS feed?
Pure speculation is that we start getting 4 set blocks as the standard and no more core sets. I've been wondering why we even have core sets anymore, and then this happened... http://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/95163605073/since-you-learn-so-much-from-the-lorwyn-shadwomoor They could also be announcing a change to standard rotations like Patrick Chapin has mused on, perhaps even in concert with a new 4 set block structure. Modern masters 2 is more likely, but I would expect that announcement at the fall pro tour like last time. Could just be more details about the time travel story and what that means, but I imagine we don't get that info until closer to the second set's release.
edit: looked back, and there's a few recent mentions of things like problems with third sets and 2 set mini blocks- could just be a reaction to the state of design article though.

MaRo mentioned they're working on getting the RSS Feed to work again.
Most of the things people suggest can be eliminated because Maro would not be the one announcing them.
So what would they have Maro announce? An un-set is one possibility, but since it would very likely take the summer special product slot this would be the wrong time of year for such an announcement.
This would be pretty awesome. I hold little hope for it anymore, but it would be a hell of a move for them to bring it back. There was always so much discussion, and fan involvement that I still don't understand why they dropped it.
I can't recall what I was thinking it was, but I remember having an idea on something it could be that was different from the movie. I agree that Making Magic isn't exactly the ideal place to talk about it, it just was a random out there idea. It's likely to be something a bit more format shaking than that. I definitely think it isn't going to be related to the third set, or at best might be an explanation on something related to it in an extended way.
I dunno, it seems pretty clear to me that it's going to be related to KTK. When asked why his State of Design article didn't have hints about cards from the upcoming set like it did for Innistrad and Theros, he said to check his column next Monday.
I really don't get the Modern Masters 2 speculation. Especially since Maro never announced a new product in his articles and he likely didn't have anything to do with MM2 (just like for MM) and likely wouldn't want to hype people for a product one week before the spoiler season of another product.
Oh and Modern Masters was announced during Pro Tour Return to Ravnica by Aaron Forsythe, in October.
An announcement of a new sanctioned format. "M15+", which will become the new slowed down "Modern" and an official announcement of the reduced power level of magic!
Calling it.

If it looks like a bug, sounds like a bug, and acts like a bug then it's probably working as intended.

Wow, that is stupid. That would be smaller than Standard is right now. Even if they do eventually decide to do that,t hey aren't doing it yet.
I'm just happy that he admitted that they messed up on Born of the Gods and the enchantment theme.
Okay, so this is either: UN3 OR a change in how standard is structured. Why? MaRo has been a champion for Un-sets, obviously he will announce it. As for standard, MaRo likes to be sneaky (for example, he asked what we would expect from a wedge-block about a week before Khans was announced), this last week MaRo asked what we wanted standard to look like (how many blocks, keep core sets in longer, etc.) so that leads me to believe that is the announcement.
deepdog61 said: Hey Maro! I am so excited about next week's column that I ask my very first question: did you move the State of Design column a week earlier to make room for this announcement before KTK previews? Can't wait!
I did.
I still think it is related to KTK. The only product I could see them announce through the Making Magic column would be UN-3, but as fnord points out, the timing for that would be somewhat weird.
The only reason I see for him to move the State of Design article to make room for this article is that it is related to KTK, and it is something that they want to keep secret for as long as possible, but that needs to be out there once previews begin.
He drops a couple of other hints on Blogatog:

I can think of a couple of good possibilities:
1. The return of the Magic Invitational.
2. GDS3.
Practice for Khans of Tarkir Limited:
Draft: (#1) (#2) (#3) (#4) (#5)
