Oh man, I sure do love having a game that is supposed to be about skill and being competitive be about having to spend an exorbitant amount of money on the secondary market just to make scratch. Yes, I realize you can use budget options, but you aren't going to go anywhere in larger tournaments with that.
You are the kind of person who contributed to the problem that is the reserved list, and by extension the financially well-to-do formats that are the Eternals. Please, take your nonsense babble back to those formats and leave Modern to the players who want to play a competitve game, without buying a used car.
The weird thing is, WotC cares about the Secondary Market, but not the Players of the Secondary Market, if that makes sense.
Like, they won't print Jace the Mind Sculptor one year, and next year make it 'The Super Special Deck' and have a Jace in each pack. They could, and they'd sell tons of those little 'Special Decks' but that's a short term gain where they have to keep one-upping themselves akin to the Yugiohs. And eventually the Yugiohs will run out of gas because it's targeted at Kids.
But that isn't to say that what they print should be DEFINED by the Secondary Market. They are still reprinting Jace, which may have an impact (if small) on the Secondary Market for a time while it's released. However for arguments like 'Thoughtseize won't be reprinted because of the Secondary Market' or 'Force of Will won't be reprinted because of the secondary market'. The same answer applies, for one it's not on the reserved list, so the question isn't 'if' WotC will reprint them, but 'when'.
And Modern Masters seems like a great testing field for 'souped up power packs' I could foresee in a few years 'Legacy Masters' with another revision of the reserved list. Legacy is a format almost solely defined by the Secondary Market in terms of Dual Lands, but the amount of people able to play it are dwindling, mostly due to the catch 22, WotC is slowly dropping support for it because not as many people play it ergo not as many people will play in GPs for it.
Unfortunately the people saying that 'Magic shouldn't involve handouts, save your money!' from the Legacy viewpoint are also the same people who will freak out at Wizards for reprinting Thoughtseize because they spent 240$ on their playset.
People who invest in Magic for monetary reasons (unless it's an immediate buy/flip situation) will usually end up disappointed, enraged, and with cards that were worth 4 times their current value before Theros came along.
Unfortunately the people saying that 'Magic shouldn't involve handouts, save your money!' from the Legacy viewpoint are also the same people who will freak out at Wizards for reprinting Thoughtseize because they spent 240$ on their playset.
I don't think everybody who believes the first also believes the second. Like, well, me. I accept that this is a collectible/trading card game, and that the better pieces of the game cost $$ to acquire. But I'm also fine with them reprinting staples to lower the financial barrier to entry.
But I also understand Wizards' hesitance to go crazy with this. They want to bring people into the game, but they want to *keep* them in the game. I'm not a "Magic stock market player," but it is nice to know that at least some of the cards I spend $$ on will retain some of their value. If I knew that these cards I spent hundreds of dollars on were going to be worth nickels and dimes in a few months .. yeah, I'd play a different game. And there are hundreds (thousands, millions) more like me. Wizards knows this, so they try not to crash the secondary market.
I think that's part of why they tried to tweak Extended. The idea was that you could take your Standard decks that you spent a couple years perfecting, and port them over to a different format for a couple more years. It's too bad it never really caught on, because I liked the idea of it. I wonder if in 10-20 years, when Modern takes over Legacy as the non-rotating format of choice, Extended might make a comeback.

I actually emjoyed Modern Masters not even as a draft (I only was able to do 1 Solomen Draft , still a draft). But I still throughly enjoyed the set and I didn't even have that great of pulls, I hit a foil Yosei but traded it off before it rose, and a Sword of Light and Shadow but sold it but I still really enjoyed the set, it reallly helped me get my Modern deck made, and was a fun set to just open packs of. The chance of pulling a Goyf, or something I have never seen before was just amazing. Luckily my Local shops still have packs, so I tend to get packs whenever I get a chance. If MM2 is actually a thing, I will get at least 2 boxes to do some proper drafts (and I get to keep the cards hehe).
Do they want Modern to thrive? Increase card availability. Simple as that. I'm not saying print staples nor did I ever say they should print staples, but MM was intended to do 3 things. Allow reprints, be a fun limited product, and reduce barrier of entry to Modern. It did 2/3 right, unfortunately most of the people who BOUGHT MM were people who already play it. I was extremely excited when this set was first announced because I thought this summer I'd be able to walk into my LGS and buy some packs of it, because I couldn't buy it in bulk, and I don't really do the singles market.(Still working on expanding my collection at this point. Not to the refining phase yet.) Alas, this wasn't going to happen because the product was limited print to the point of ridiculousness.
Do you know who keeps the game going? It isn't the collectors, not by a long shot. Yes, they do add longevity to the game through the secondary market, but players have always and will always be the fuel for the game, and for the game's formats. If you skip over them or shunt them enough, they will lose interest, and then leave, draining the game of its driving force.
Not sure what the confusion here is. MM covered 6 blocks and the corresponding Core Sets:
Mirrodin, Kamigawa, Ravnica, Time Spiral, Lorwyn, Shards of Alara
MM2 will appear in 2+ years and also include 6 blocks and corresponding Core Sets:
Zendikar, Scars of Mirrodin, Innistrad, Return to Ravnica, Theros, ???
Plenty of relevant cards to reprint: Titans x5, Lotus Cobra, Stoneforge Mystic, Falkenrath Aristocrat, Huntmaster, Snapcaster, Restoration Angel, Batterskull, Swords, etc.
I don't think there's any chance they'll print cards from the sets already covered by MM1.
I sincerely hope Wotc isn't that stupid. Remand is sitting at $15 now.
There are cards from the sets MM1 covered that need to be reprinted, and they know it. I doubt they'd skip them.

Hey, lolis with katanas are awesome, and I don't care about their home country.
It works significantly less well in reverse since Fetches do two things to T2 they don't like, namely slowing the format down because everyone is shuffling every other turn, and making mana bases too powerful when they've just taken steps to move back to one or two colours from the three or four that has characterized Ravnica block Standard.
It's highly unlikely they'll reprint them in T2 if they have an opportunity not to.
Firstly, you're making way too much out of the statement that "Fetches slow down T2 too much". This is an issue, but not a prohibitive one. It is absolutely not in any way something that prevents them from being in T2. It's just an issue that T2 has to be designed for.
Secondly, please call it Standard, not T2. That's what it is.
Thirdly, your logic basically means it would be impossible to ever reprint Onslaught fetches. Because you say they can't print new cards in Modern via MM, but they can't reprint fetches in Modern via Standard, because it's too slow. And that's just a silly position.
Fourthly, it's especially silly when they've already stated they're interested in doing the full 10 cycle of such lands now since people want both allied and enemy color pairs.
Thus, unless they NEVER REPRINT FETCHES EVER, INCLUDING ZENDIKAR ONES, we're going to see ALL TEN FETCHES, INCLUDING ONSLAUGHT FETCHES in either STANDARD or IN SOME SORT OF MODERN MASTERS SET THAT INTRODUCES NEW CARDS INTO MODERN.
Not sure what the confusion here is. MM covered 6 blocks and the corresponding Core Sets:

The confusion is yours. They have no interest in reprint cards from a set that just came out. Your ??? set would be coming out the same year as MM2; it wouldn't make sense from a business standpoint, let alone a player one.
No one ever said MM covers all the cards they want reprinted for Modern, and it's clearly NOT the case, since there are still PLENTY of high-priced Modern cards in sets they "already covered" that weren't reprinted, like Remand, Thoughtseize, Damnation, etc.
And WotC wants doesn't want to wait 6 years between reprint sets. MM is about keeping a constant supply of Modern reprints to support the growth of the Modern format, in the way they couldn't with older sets due to the reserved list. That's why Modern exists, and that's why MM exists.
Will we see a MM set every year? Maybe, although every 2 years certainly makes more sense.
I don't think there's any chance they'll print cards from the sets already covered by MM1.
Modern Maters was based on the Masters Collection releases on MTGO. All of them have overlapped sets. I'd be truly shocked if MM2 didn't have any overlap with the sets featured in MM1

Do you have any information that supports this assumption of yours, or are you just guessing? Personally, I don't think your assumption makes much sense at all. Printing cards that are still in-print and standard legal for something like modern masters wouldn't make sense, as that would take away from the sales of the sealed product they would still be trying to sell at the time. However, going with everything that modern masters did, but adding zen and scars blocks, should allow them to cover the cards that are most causing pricing/availability issues for the format, while also being able to adjust what was chosen from mm1 to keep some of the things that will continue to need more of a supply boost (ala: goyf/bob), removing some of the cards that don't (Especially at the rare rarity for example or something like the kamigawa dragon cycle), and replacing them with cards that could use a reprint, like others have mentioned in things like thoughtseize, damnation, remand, chord, etc etc that they didn't cover the first time around, while still trying to make it a fun draft format for everyone. And of course, now that wizards knows how popular a product like this can be, they will likely be more willing to print more of a second one, than the first, knowing better that it should sell plenty well, even with increased (but still limited) availability.
Inevitably, its speculation by everyone though. We all have our hopes and dreams of what the next modern masters will include, and what it will do towards everyone's prospective needs for the format. Looking forwad to it, when/if it comes though :).

I'm not sure why you think that calling another person's reasoning "silly" and holding your shift key down relegates their arguments as invalid, but you're clearly emotionally invested in this subject when there's no reason to be.
I'm not making too much of an issue out them slowing T2 down, you're focusing on it because that way it's easier for you to ignore the much more serious problem of power-level. We're not getting fetches back in Theros so that everyone can suddenly go to perfect five-colour manabases after they've just started pushing away from the heavy muticolour nature of the current Standard format.
If we wait for Shocklands to rotate out we'll have a year of $100 Scalding Tarns, which is also undesirable.
When MM was compiled they weren't overly enthused with the idea of putting new cards directly into the format in the same way Commander adds cards to Legacy, so it's unlikely they'll start now.
Leaving the most obvious solution as reprinting Zendikar fetches in MM2, meaning no Onslaught reprint.
I'm not sure why you think that calling another person's reasoning "silly" and holding your shift key down relegates their arguments as invalid,
It doesn't. The logic I presented relegates their arguments as invalid. Your arguments, by contrast, are what we call ad hominem, which makes your arguments invalid from the start.
you're focusing on it because that way it's easier for you to ignore the much more serious problem of power-level. We're not getting fetches back in Theros so that everyone can suddenly go to perfect five-colour manabases after they've just started pushing away from the heavy muticolour nature of the current Standard format.

There is no evidence they were against such an idea. You know when Modern was created, they considered putting in Onslaught fetches, don't you? They didn't not because they didn't want them, but specifically because they decided to cut-off at Mirrodin so players could use the modern card frame as an (imperfect) guideline. So concluding that they "weren't overly enthused" about Onslaught fetches would be incorrect. The same fault lies in your logic with MM, and it's especially faulty because MM is a new thing.
None of this means they will introduce new cards via MM. I don't think they will. But IF they don't introduce Onslaught fetches through Standard -- which I think they will anyway -- then they WILL introduce them through MM or a similar vehicle, like they do with Commander. And you can take that to the bank.
Just once I want them to print cards with their promo art. That would really make my day. It's just insane how they release a card and then within a couple of months re-release the card with better art. COuldn't they just release it before with a non foil version of promo art? Damn you Rakdos Cackler for looking amazing in our promo!
The fact that there is still available product out there - and anyone can get it for its fair market price, debunks the theory that the limited print run has adversely effected access to the set.
except in a case of cornering a market or conclusion, most products are avilable to anyone at fair market price, that doesn't mean most products are successful.
That, and the fact that Modern Masters is directly responsible for the largest CCG tournament ever held - ever.
If you held a tournament that cost $50 and you got a $100 for entering I'm sure that would be a pretty popular tournament too. That doesn't mean anything about the quality of the tournament or the set(s) in the tournament.
Wizards isn't "shying away" from anything. They did this as a limited print run on purpose, and they openly discussed that purpose, yet people still want to crucify them for no logical reason except to be antagonistic.
The point is the same purpose could have been achived with a larger print run or even an unlimted print run.
MTGS is like a cesspool of crying babies. No wonder many of you think the MTG community is poor.
It's also full of people who believe anything Wotc tells them, and think that anything that Wotc decides must be good for the game despite the mass of evidence otherwise.
No one ever said MM covers all the cards they want reprinted for Modern, and it's clearly NOT the case, since there are still PLENTY of high-priced Modern cards in sets they "already covered" that weren't reprinted, like Remand, Thoughtseize, Damnation, etc.
Someone did scream their head of that their where so many played rares and $5 rares that Wotc wouldn't be printing unplayable rares and would have no reason to hold out money cards from the set.
A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
Someone did scream their head of that their where so many played rares and $5 rares that Wotc wouldn't be printing unplayable rares and would have no reason to hold out money cards from the set.
They were correct. WotC didn't hold out money cards from the set for the purposes of selling future MM sets. It's simply that there are enough money cards for something like 6 MM sets, and that's before considering new cards printed between now and then. And since they have to deal with balance and draft concerns, naturally you wind up with some cheaper cards purely for support reasons. About the only thing disappointing in MM were the Dragons at Mythic; they should have been left at Rare and more mythics (Alara planeswalkers IMHO) printed.
They should wait awhile before they start MM2. Just enough so that it'll be from 8th Edition to Avacyn Restored, with a Mythic Spread like this:
White - Serra Ascendant & Iona, Shield of Emeria
Blue - Snapcaster Mage & Bribery
Black -Lilliana of the Veil & Phyrexian Obliterator
Red - Warren Instigator & Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle (yep, a land)
Green - Birthing Pod & Tarmogoyf (again)
Multicolor - Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas & Geist of St. Traft
Colorless - Mox Opal & Emrakul, the Aeons Torn & Wurmcoil Engine
it hasn't even been confirmed by wizard so it may not even happen but they did hint at it
I don't think it matters to this community, there appears to be lingering emotions based on how MM went and it is making them see the possible future under a certain light. But don't worry, people should mellow out eventually, or at least until WOTC says "Surprise!".

They'd be idiots to not try Modern Masters 2. The first was a *huge* success and sold out so fast I'm sure they could have at least tripled the print run and still easily sold out. I feel they really screwed themselves with the small print run, as they could've made a lot more money with a larger one.
Here's to hoping they have a much bigger print run the second time around; not just to get more cards in circulation but also so there'd be a lot more opportunities for draft; Modern Masters was actually really awesome in Limited.

It's not. It was hinted at by Tom. The post says that Marshall confirmed it, but he was just basing that off of what Tom said. Marshall doesn't really have that kind of information. It is all but confirmed, but it is not confirmed yet.
In related news, don't believe everything you read on the internet boys and girls.

The words and especially body language by Tom was all the confirmation you are going to get outside of a WotC post or Maro "announcement." It's confirmed. But of course we are getting into semantics which fills about 80% of this board.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
We've already gone over this. That is your opinion. If you want to doubt RCarlysle's report of the confirmation, then you have just as much reason to doubt RCarlysle's report that MM2 was even being considered. You have no basis to believe one report and not the other.
It was hinted at by Tom. The post says that Marshall confirmed it, but he was just basing that off of what Tom said. Marshall doesn't really have that kind of information.
You have no idea what Marshall was basing it off of. You hve no idea if Marshall has that information or not. But if you'll believe that Tom would hint at it to RCarlysle, then it's just as believable that Tom would confirm it to Marshall.
It is all but confirmed, but it is not confirmed yet.
The *report* is that it's confirmed, and this thread is talking about *report*. You can doubt the report, but you can't claim the report did not happen.
In related news, don't believe everything you read on the internet boys and girls.
And yet you believe the what you read on the Internet that Tom even talked to RCarlysle and Marshall at all and said that MM2 was being considered. Maybe you should get your own house in order first before criticizing others.

It doesn't. The logic I presented relegates their arguments as invalid. Your arguments, by contrast, are what we call ad hominem, which makes your arguments invalid from the start.
Incorrect. I am neither emotionally invested in the subject, nor is it clear that I am. The CAPS are for EMPHASIS to benefit your UNDERSTANDING.
Since you're using it as justification for your position, yes you are. Next.
That is your opinion, not based on fact. Next.
Except that solution fails because they want complete 10 cycle dual lands. As I've already explained to you.
Maelstrom Pulse and Lightning Helix and Doubling Season off the top of my head were all reprinted with their promo art in MM.
except in a case of cornering a market or conclusion, most products are avilable to anyone at fair market price, that doesn't mean most products are successful.
If you held a tournament that cost $50 and you got a $100 for entering I'm sure that would be a pretty popular tournament too. That doesn't mean anything about the quality of the tournament or the set(s) in the tournament.
The point is the same purpose could have been achived with a larger print run or even an unlimted print run.
It's also full of people who believe anything Wotc tells them, and think that anything that Wotc decides must be good for the game despite the mass of evidence otherwise.
Someone did scream their head of that their where so many played rares and $5 rares that Wotc wouldn't be printing unplayable rares and would have no reason to hold out money cards from the set.
About the only thing disappointing in MM were the Dragons at Mythic; they should have been left at Rare and more mythics (Alara planeswalkers IMHO) printed.
lol
I guess things went down hill big time after I sold my playset. Maybe getting them back will make me strong again.
White - Serra Ascendant & Iona, Shield of Emeria
Blue - Snapcaster Mage & Bribery
Black -Lilliana of the Veil & Phyrexian Obliterator
Red - Warren Instigator & Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle (yep, a land)
Green - Birthing Pod & Tarmogoyf (again)
Multicolor - Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas & Geist of St. Traft
Colorless - Mox Opal & Emrakul, the Aeons Torn & Wurmcoil Engine
You need to go back and read the post that started this thread. According to the report, it is confirmed.
It's not. It was hinted at by Tom. The post says that Marshall confirmed it, but he was just basing that off of what Tom said. Marshall doesn't really have that kind of information. It is all but confirmed, but it is not confirmed yet.
In related news, don't believe everything you read on the internet boys and girls.
Check out http://www.mtgbrodeals.com/author/john-murphy/ for my EDH articles!
The words and especially body language by Tom was all the confirmation you are going to get outside of a WotC post or Maro "announcement." It's confirmed. But of course we are getting into semantics which fills about 80% of this board.
We've already gone over this. That is your opinion. If you want to doubt RCarlysle's report of the confirmation, then you have just as much reason to doubt RCarlysle's report that MM2 was even being considered. You have no basis to believe one report and not the other.
You have no idea what Marshall was basing it off of. You hve no idea if Marshall has that information or not. But if you'll believe that Tom would hint at it to RCarlysle, then it's just as believable that Tom would confirm it to Marshall.
The *report* is that it's confirmed, and this thread is talking about *report*. You can doubt the report, but you can't claim the report did not happen.
And yet you believe the what you read on the Internet that Tom even talked to RCarlysle and Marshall at all and said that MM2 was being considered. Maybe you should get your own house in order first before criticizing others.
