Limited Runs aren't just about "Collectibility" There is a supply and demand issue that clearly matters as well in what WOTC are doing which a lot of people are accepting. By limiting the supply they increased the demand and where able to set a higher price for the product.
By making it limited and in demand they also made it more of an event which allowed it to fit between to regular sets without detracting from either. (Arguably though DGM and M14 seem to be a bit underwhelming which could reflect a effect from MM and having an additional draft format/focus in between).
It's just basic Marketing and Economics. I find it weird how many people just don't seem to get this how WOTC do business, it's what makes them money and keeps Magic on top.
Do you know the exact price WOTC sold MM to the stores? I don't but I do that it is how much they made from selling the product, minus the manufacturing cost and you have profit for WOTC. The stores were the ones to profit from the limited print and the demand/supply equation.
WOTC sells their product to stores under what they advise said store to sell it at. Since stores are under contract, at least my local store says they are, not to talk about this buying price they can only say that they do not make much at selling at advised price. So if we apply this to MM which was advised to be sold at $6-$7 (A pack) which the stores sold for over $13, the stores did literally put all of the expense on the end-buyer and then charged them a "Handling" Fee.
At best WOTC made $5 a pack (not counting manufacturing cost), the stores made at least $7 without even having to hold the product for more then 24 hours. So to say that WOTC is doing great in making money, using MM as a point is not so great. But I would agree that this could be a great marketing strategy for expansion. More stores selling their normal product would lead to a small but steady increase in profit. But then this negates what WOTC said about the product being for the players to be able to enter the format.
So to end this I will say that MM was not so much to make money but to "Test" a product and see if it can be made into an annul or semi-annul product-line meant to bolster the modern format. If this does become such a thing we should expect a longer print run but with possibly a card list with less impact so the pricing does not go through the roof.
I'm convinced that Wizards could print $20 bills, put them in every booster pack, and people would still ***** that there wasn't enough printed availability.

It would be nice it we could actually talk about Magic on these forums for once, instead of scrolling through pages of temper tantrums and whine fests.

I understand they saw this as an experiment and wanted to test the waters.
Then it was too successful that no one could find it for MSRP at release. Was an unfortunate success for this print run (as in it became an impossible thing for players to get ahold of in some areas), but hopefully they will be able to adjust for that with MM2.
Considering that, for the last month or more, stores have been launching multiple Modern Masters drafts, selling boosters, etc......
No, I don't think so. Modern Masters is widely accepted as a huge success. The only people who are still crying are those who couldn't mow a lawn or deliver papers for a week so you could spend $35 to draft it.
Maybe in your stores? Mine sold out on day one and couldn't get anymore.

Well, I kind of agree, but... you may well be deserving of the "most ironic post of the year" award at this point. I think the grand prize is a Ring Pop and a bag of Cheetos.
wow this sounds so weird to me! here at my lgs various people bought a box, we had several drafts and the store still have at least 4 boxes.
two blocks away there's another store and they still have boxes there as well...
When I asked about whether or not they ever planned to hold drafts or sealed they all said they were waiting for the second wave. They were banking on there being a lot more than what came. But yeah it was really weird for me to check all of the local stores and not find a draft or sealed event. The closest one was about 3 hours away, so it would have meant a six hour drive to the store and back. I have funds for cards, but it is a hobby not a way of life for me.
I played it plenty, didn't spend any extra either.
People just like to complain, without any valid reason to do so....hell half the complaints are not even on WoTC they are on the Card Shops....go their and *****, otherwise shut up.
The problem with complaining to your Card shop is that they can simply refuse your future business or ask you not to play in their tournaments any more. My closest store is less than 15 minutes away with the next one a full 30-35 minutes farther away. I am not going to risk loosing that when you put gas prices into the mix. Now would a store do that? It depends on how much you push the issue and how obnoxious you try to be.
It is just safer to simply vent ones anger here on the internet where the only punishment is "guidance" from the admins, who are not really annoyed with complaints as long as they stay civil. If the admins are annoyed then I apologize for saying otherwise. Plus you don't have to read a person's message, which is a lot easier that trying to drown out a person's voice.

The only issue is that for some such as myself had the money but all of my local stores pre-sold their stock and left none for draft or sealed events. I still have over $60 in my wallet that I had saved to go to one of these events but there never was an opportunity to spend it. And because there was so much hype about this product being awesome to draft and such, buying three or four packs online seemed kinda sad to do on my own.
Is this the story for every person that didn't go to a MM event, no. And honestly I support you in what you have said. If you had an event near you and the only thing stopping you was lack of funds, you could have found the funds by working odd jobs or selling off un-important cards.
The relative inaccessibility of most high-power Modern cards presents too high a barrier to entry for the format.
That only explains why you think you should get cards for cheap.
Why should WOTC change their business model just to make things easier for players? Mass printing now means they will have cards sitting on shelves and they'll never be able to reprint those cards to make additional money in the future. You just think that you are more important than WOTC, and you should be given things. You want the cards? Work for them.
I guess this means a reprint of the Onslaught fetches is never actually happening.
Are you trying to be sarcastic or something? Onslaught fetches would have to be introduced in Modern via Standard, unless they decide to start doing special sets or make MM2 more than just reprints. In any case, how does the confirmation of MM2 tell us anything about Onslaught fetch reprints?
I still expect Onslaught fetches to be in Theros or Huey.

Seems unlikely for Theros, but Huey seems to have some promise. Im still hoping for Thoughtseize as the reprint in Theros.
If fetchs would to be printed again, would they reprint both Zendikar' and Onslaught' together? ( I remenber they saying about printing allied and enemy duals in standard together now )

We'll likely see Mirrodin ->Scars of Mirrodin covered. 2 years later, + 2 years.

And I'm convinced that you'd complain about them.

Because they're not modern legal? Arbitrarily adding cards to the format via modern masters seems like a bad idea.

And a cookie too. You can't have free stuff without a cookie.
I can see it now: The Power Nine Power-Pak, for $4.49, you too can own the Power Nine, reprinted in the modern card style format.
