So I hope this is the right place for this, but late last night, early this morning, before the first Draft Round they had an interview with Tom Lapille. The discussion was about 'draft designs' and how Modern Masters did such a great job as a drafted set. They also spoke about a second, to which Tom Responded favorably with 'A huge chance' of there being a sequel.
After which they returned to the booth where Marshal Sutcliffe 'Confirmed' a Modern Masters Sequel.
It kind of plays into them not reprinting -all- the cards they should have, Remand I'm looking at you.
The question is, when is this MM 2 coming? I wonder if they'll just fill it with Zen-current stuff + the few leftout cards like Remand/Thoughtseize, or if they'll (I hope) give us a second change at Goyf/Bob/Clique.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Most likely next year 2014 is summer fun time i.e planechase archenemy (god forbid commander leave that garbage till later in the year) and then the year after that 2015 will be MM2. Since wizards work quite far in advance you can assume that as soon as the numbers came in for MM, they got the go ahead.

You realized that's not the only reason they have a limited print run right?
I thought it was so they could watch the product skyrocket in price even when they don't see even a fraction of that profit.
But seriously if there is another MM it needs to have a better print run because where I live not a single store in a two hour travel radius even tried to hold a draft. All the boxes were sold at pre-order and that was the end of it. There is a "Limited run" and then there is chumming the water with scraps.
I don't mean to sound argumentative, but why else would they limit the print run?
To print stuff later. Hence why thoughtsieze wasn't in MM. Hence why from the vaults don't have the best of the very best and mostly just 1 or 2 very bests. Long term goals.
Also limit print run is more attractive to collectors, Wouldn't make sense if I could still go get Elves vs Goblins would devalue the item.(In more ways than just money)

Any collector/devalue argument is what's already stated: Magic: The Stock Market
A limited print run didn't stop them from printing another card later on? Huh?

Fine fine, why have limited print runs well cause products stop selling when the next product is released. M10 doesn't look so great anymore I would rather spend money on the newest shiniest m14.
:3 of course the main point to limited print run is the stock market thing but remember magic is a collecting trading card game and collections don't feel specialif you can always get them (not money special but symbolic value, Im proud to own my DD's), while limited run makes things collectable.

One of the reasons they created modern was so they CAN actually reprint stuff without being bound to the reserved list. Catering mainly to collectors is not a good mentality for marketing your new format to a broader audience.

So let's do a run through of what missing cards would occupy the 5 colour mythic cycle (presuming they do the same as MM1 - ew, can we really call it MM1 now?)
White - ??
Blue - ??
Black - Thoughtseize (ugh, mythic discard)
Red - Fulminator Mage (yes I know it's black as well - but what could red possibly put here after Kiki?)
Green - Noble hierarch?
Lots of uncommons could use reprints as well, aven mindcensors are not easy to find.
After thinking about another 5 colour mythic cycle, I think MMII maybe would need a different setup.

If you print every card in mass quantity right now you limit your ability to continue to print that card in later years because people don't want them anymore. With products that sell for $6.99 MSRP, there is a lot of money to be gained in the future by not flooding the market right now.
People only have X amount of expendable income in a year. When you print something in a large print run, you risk people spending all their money on this product and not having money for other products they want to release.
Both of these are very important reasons to limit print runs. MM1 was also limited because it was a test. It's possible future MMs will have a higher print run, but it still will not be anything near standard sets or Commander products.

where i live three different stores had drafts all weekend while still selling a box every so often, thats not even counting the other stores more than 20 minutes away of which there are several, so it comes down to each individual store and allocation. you can't fault wizards for stores making the choice between selling on ebay, or letting preorders gobble the supply up, or selling within their store.

Personally, it was the funnest set I've ever drafted or played Limited with.
It's no surprise that they are going to follow up with Modern Masters 2.0
(Maybe we can finally get the much anticipated Thoughtseize and Noble Hierarch).

What? How was MM1 not designed for Modern? Are you trolling?
No, it was filled with Modern legal, but not Modern (the constructed format) playable dreck that was there for limited casual only.

So you wanted them to just print you a boxed set of 4 of each modern playable card? This is Magic, not YuGiOh.
