Something about Ghosts vs Zombies vs Vampires vs Werewolves vs Leonin strikes me as thematically inconsistent. I'm not very well-versed in MTG mythos - has Ajani ever crossed paths with any of the Planeswalkers we know will be in the set?
None, that makes it more likely.
Also, the Planeswalker is supposed to feel like an outside element. Being the only Leonin in the plane makes sense.

No, not even remotely.

G/W Ajani could make sense- it could cap off his storyline explaining how he got to be Ajani Goldmane- there's still a few gaps between how he was Ajani Vengeant to there. Something like Ajani Repentant.
Wrong. Ajani became Ajani Goldmane at the climax of the battle of Maelstrom, when he faced Nicol Bolas. Source:Alara Unbroken. There are no loose ends in Vengeant-Goldmane transition.

In order of guessing:
Gideon (hey Sorin is getting a new version, and Gideon has a high possibility of being "van helsing like" at least in appearance.)
Garruk (Chasing Liliana at the moment)
Sarkhan (same as Garruk)
Nissa (least likely. Chasing Sorin At the moment)
Now why are we seeing so many remakes of planeswalkers? It is an infinite multiverse. There should be a little more variety.

It's sortof the point of them, characters that can span multiple blocks, creating a recurring cast, brand recognition, and something to spur on a meta-plot.
"above Him stood the Seraphim...And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is Jehovah of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory."~Isaiah
it seems that every duel deck with a planeswalker "theme" has both of them being reprinted in the following block/set (with the exception of garruk and liliana). Im thinking were going to see nicol bolas in innistrad. but more importantly its probably going to be ajani
While I believe Garruk will have an appearance this block, I don't think it will be in the first set. I'm leaning towards either Sarkhan or Nissa. Sarkhan is, at this point, Bolas's hunting dog. He could have easily been sent to steal the veil or simply to meddle. Nissa comes to mind due to Sorin's confirmed involvement in the block. The last we saw of her, she was chasing after him and could have followed him to Innistrad.
Not to mention both Sarkhan and Nissa have been G in the past, and Maro did hint towards more G 'walkers.
I'm willing to bet its Ajani. Besides Nicol, Nissa, and Sarkhan, all of the other planeswalkers that we know about in lore will have a representative in current standard. Since Ajani is the most prominent of them, since he IS one of the original Lorwyn 5, I think it will be him.
That being said it could easily be nicol too. That guy is just everywhere these days.
do you have a copy of the tweet which says that the green walker he is talking about will be in ISD?
He didn't say it would be a green walker. At one time he said fans of green 'walkers will be happy soon. At another time, he said the 2nd 'walker is one we already knew. The two could be related, or they might not be.

That's the link to the tweet. It's dated April 27, 2011. He was probably referring to M12 Garruk, so I no longer have a hard stance on the whole "old walker" + "green" thing. Having said that, Ajani still strikes me as being the least likely candidate due to thematic inconsistency and his disconnection from the confirmed PW cast. I'd still take him over Nissa, though.
Maybe we are looking at the wrong place. w/b ajani Here is why. tokens are something that has been missing in this game recently. Ajani goldmane worked well with tokens. He goes to ISD and gets all demented or something. B/W ghost tokens + new ajani.
I probably would make more sense if it wasn't 4 in the morning lol.

You know as well as I that Wizards of the Coast has never let a novel get in the way of any card they want to make, or do they put much truck in them... considering random authors decided to do thinks like ressurect long dead Yawgmoth for no really damn reason.
Maybe MaRo talked about another planeswalker in the block, and not in the extension...So he's probably talking about Sorin.
I have misread the first time, sorry. But I keep believing that the returning planeswalker will be Sorin.
sorin will be in the next set after ISD prolly, Ajani or Kiora.
I think they want to avoid having the legendary walker rule happen to much, like the baby jace vs JTMS days, which isn't a problem ATM, however the new sorin will add to it.

after the JTMS issue along with the absence of Oblivion Ring and other good ways to combat him at the time, i would think they would be perfectly fine with another available way to interact with (read: kill) powerful planeswalkers in the environment.
I'm hoping for Parcher or Lilliana #2.
Chandra and Sharkan both being red didn't stop them from printing in the same block, and who says Bolas needs to be grixis this time around?

Uh no... He was Dominaria looooooooong before he was Grixis.

Modern: BWTokensBW

He didn't mean Grixis plane, he meant Grixis colors. I think.

None of them can be considered primarily green walkers. I really don't know why Ajani's name is even being thrown around as a possible candidate.
Based on MaRo's tweets, the only possible candidates are Garruk and Nissa. Both fit the criteria of being old and primarily green.

I always suspected Rhys from Lorwyn was a 'walker. He had some funky reactions to Oona's magic that were never quite explained.

You do realize that MaRo was sending in the finishing touches to commons and uncommons from Friends before Scars of Mirrodin came out.
On topic: We really can't tell who it's going to be other than it's not Liliana or Sorin.

yup. This card is going to be a selling point of the set, so they aren't going to give us many good clues as to what it is yet.

not a very convincing argument because just about all of them were featured in DotP.
