Cut off from Planeswalkers as a result of the signing of the Guildpact and the formation of the shard around it, that kept others out and the dead in. There's no reason as to why not the Vedalken could have evolved on the plane from the get-go. Same goes for Ravnica's Viashino, which are found across the length of the Multiverse.
Thank you for mentioning the viashino, I had forgotten about those. If there is an iconic red race that are pretty unique to magic, the Viashino are it. Although, D&D do have something similar in the Lizardfolk, they are not quite the same...

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
The Vecs and Dals were human ... the Kor tribe just joined with them into a community. Supposedly, they were all from different places and were transplanted into Rath (possibly when it crossed into other planes ...).
If Zendikar is the home of the Kor ... cool. If it's just another place these nomads have been dropped off ... still kind of cool. If it's the home of both the Kor, AND the origin point of Vampires (Home plane of Baron Sengir, for instance) ... dag!
I'd be willing to bet it's the Baron's home plane ... he always did look a bit "Middle Eastern" in design.

I just opened a Planar Chaos booster and pulled an Extirpate and a Damnation in the same pack.
Seeing the pasty-white kor and the charcoal skilled flaming harpoon guy, I'm wondering if all the races on Zendikar will just be human-looking with skin color matching their magic color. For blue, vedalken would work. And we've seen green-skinned elves before.
Thank you, I forgot about the thrulls, which is sad, because I love them as well.
As for the Kavu, it was pretty much establised from the start that they where a multi-color species. Alpha Kavu is mono-green Kavu Monarch is mono-red Radiant Kavu is red-green-white Vicious Kavu is black-red.
There are 20 green Kavu and 26 red Kavu. (One black and one white)
And I would hardly call them a sentient species. At least the thrulls where smart enough as a whole to produce thrull wizards. >.<

Vampires are the new iconic race of black backed by zombies. They are intelligent and are popular .I think thrulls are too similar to zombies (with a few exceptions of course) and wotc is pushing vampires.Kithkin the new race of white ,why?Give me humans and rhox and aven please. Why haven't the Phyrexians been mentioned more , if there is a race in black i wish to see return it's them.
Ah, but Vampires are hardly unique to magic are they? At least the trulls have that (and I am certain they will return one day as well, they returned for Ravnica and to a lesser extent time spiral after all).
Phyrexians where never a race as such, they where various living creatures who had large parts of themselves replaced with metal and the black oil of phyrexia. And I doubt they will return in any number, after all Yawgmoth is dead, and with him gone, the nine spheres will likely fall apart.
Now, aven and rhoxes I like, but the Rhox are not a pure white race, they started out in green after all, and then migrated. They have even shown up in red. Aven are white/blue, showing up in both since the start. They have even migrated to red and black with the Kathari.
Loxodon's on the other hand are primarily white.

Redirection of damage would be sweet-- I always thought that it was a racial ability, so I can't really imagine the Kor without having at least some cards touch on that ability.
That said, I can't imagine Kor-Vec-Dal coming back without Shadow, which is my #1 most loathed mechanic in magic history. I hope it's dead.
Thallids for G. I know there are some exceptions, but they remain a Green race at heart.
Not the brightest, I wouldn`t excpect thallid cities, but definately having distinct personalities.
Also,
If we are going to do a list of races, it`s also worth noting that W gets Loxodon and Leonin I think this is really one of those places where white outshines the other colours.
W: Kor, Vec, Leonin, Loxodon
G: Thallids
R: Viashino
U: Cephalids, Vedelkan
B: Thrulls
Pretty much EVERY other race taht I can think of has precursor directly outside of M:TG (Elves, Fae, Trolls, Ogred, Demons) or exists in multiple colours to a degree that they cannot be considered iconic to 1 colour (Slivers, Leeches, Changelings)

Yeah, I guess so, now that I look. I hope shadow doesn't come back; it was kind of a redundant rule-- it would be kind of like having Dread Warlock's pseudo-fear in the same set as cards with true fear. Unnecessary.
I would argue for the Lorwyn style elemental race for Red
Nezumi in black?
Kitsune, Nezumi and Moonfolk (and to a lesser extent the Orochi) are from Japanese Mythology, so those are out. The Nantuko are pretty much the equivalent of the Thri-Keen from D&D, and the elemental race is hardly uniquely magic either.
@Exquisite_Oath: Missed you before as we posted at about the same time, my apologies. Anyway, the Vec are normal humans, and the Leonin are hardly exclusive to magic (in fact cat people are pretty common in the fantasy genre). Loxodon's are pretty exclusively magic though. Thallids could be argued to whether or not they are sentient, all depending on peoples view of them. Of all thallids ever printed, only one has been shown with any form of tool (one of the four arts to the original Thallid had it carrying a spear), they are however extremely green in flavor: Living, growing, consuming, and multiplying. They have bled a little into black and white, but not enough to make them a three color race.

I'm not sure if this thread is about uniquely magic races or races that will be reprinted. Because if it's uniquely magic races, then the moonfolk should definately be on there.
If races like the Lorwyn red elementals are out...why are the viashino in the slot for red? They are definitely similar to other "lizardfolk type creatures done before.
While I agree that the concept of bipedal felines has occured about as frequently as the idea of centaurs, the difference that I think is worth highlighting is the Leonin have their own name and full fledged culture around them, which is distinct to M:TG, the world buildign done in Mirrodin is pretty three dimensional.
However, I will admit I missed some: thalakos and Dauthi both get their repsective creature types on their type line under current Oracle so they need to be acknowledged. However, showing up in 1 block does keep them out of the Iconic group.
Zendikar is the confirmed home plane of the Kor, according to Jeff Phillips at SCG, who had it from Mark Purvis.

Recent discussions here and elsewhere have made it clear that there seems to be a group of players who consider blue and control synonymous, as if they somehow started playing a game with four identical and "bad" colors that do nothing interesting because they just "turn men sideways" and then true, glorious blue, the only thinking person's color.

Moonfolk (the Soratami) are not uniquely magic as they are a big part of Japanese myth and legend.
@Pompejus: Good list, however a few notes: Birdfolk (Aven), Catfolk (including Leonin and the Nishoba), Centaurs, Cyclops's, Elementals, Elves, Faeries, Giants, Goblins, Halflings/Hobbits (Kithkin), Humans, Merfolk, Minotaurs, Ogres, Treefolk, Trolls, and Vampires are fantasy staples and thus not uniquely magic, which is what this thread is about. >.<
Thrulls can be highly intelligent however, as is shown on the cards Thrull Wizard, Absolver Thrull, Thrull Surgeon and Ostiary Thrull.
@Amugaba: I cannot believe I forgot the nightstalkers. ^^

I don't think that those mana bombs and the planar decay that yawgy was so worried about were nearly enough to kill Phyrexia itself though.
bntw-none of this has anything to do with Zendikar.
My guess is that we are seeing the Kor's home plane. Since the only other place that we have seen them is Rath (and Dominaria because of the overlay).

I was under the impression that the Kor were part of the bloodline project. Meaning wherever they came from, Urza touched it.
As in the place they first came from.
You were under a wrong impression.
