Quote from flaming infinity Sure, it's highly playable
Quote from heroicraptorHonestly, Bolt is not that playable in Legacy anymore. ****ing Tarmogoyf. It's really only played in Burn and Goyf Sligh.
Quote from XeroxedFoolI was surprised and sad to see Titan go, but the format is much better now.
Quote from MephistonSomeone mentioned Chain Lightning - I think that actually may be a reasonable contention.
With all the available mana-fixing around nowadays, the ability of an opponent to bounce it back at you wouldn't be out of the question, and a decent drawback.
Quote from TormodModern could never replace Legacy.
The formats are completely different. Its like saying unicycles will replace airplanes.
Quote from fahrenheightsthe problem with lightning bolt being printed is obsoletes so very many cards printed for the last 14 years
Quote from ZeriHow does something that has already been printed obsolete things?
Its no more powerful than path........<_<
I mean sure in other formats it will be run over shock....but in standard we have no idea what red is losing or gaining
Quote from gilradWell since people brought this thread back, I thought I would give the update I gave on the other LB thread:
I recently noticed a trend at the card shop that is speculating that LB will be in M10: They are selling shocks en masse for cheap. Usually they are just under 100 yen (~$1USD), with a few scattered about the bargain bin for 89 yen (and I suspect, the majority behind the counter). Nowdays, though, there is a mass of Shocks in the bargain bin for 19 yen, and it is not entirely difficult to find them in the junk commons pile for 10 yen.
So it looks like the card shop is selling what they think will be obsoleted shocks before they're worth less than the paper they're printed on. This pretty much lays to rest people arguing that the store is just trying to capitalize on the rumor season by selling lots of Lightning Bolts.
It should also be noted that this is one of the more major card shops in the greater Tokyo area, so it wouldn't surprise me if they received this information from the inside, then listed it as "pure speculation" to protect the informant and themselves from WotC. But this is just speculation on my part.
Either way, I think this is pretty strong evidence for LB being in M10, because unlike some guy coming on the boards saying he has a friend on the inside, this information has some actual consequences--namely, the loss of credibility from the store and lots of money from undersold cards.
Quote from gilradHere in Tokyo that is not the case. Every major store I have been to overprices common removal spells. Heck, even Studio Enndal, the major Japanese online store, sells them for double the value of online stores elsewhere.
Overpriced singles--especially something like shock is quite common over here, which is why it is incredibly suspect that the floodgates have been released and they are selling for dirt cheap prices in large quantities. It is certainly NOT a very common occurrence in my experience with this store.
Quote from Agiusswordwell, if you had a bunch of that card sitting around collecting dust, and suddenly there is rumors of its return flying around, you understand that there are going to be people who want to "get it while its cheap" regardless of if IT is even in the set.
Quote from gilradThen how can you explain the sudden price drop on their shocks? Selling your entire stock of a card for 1/10th the price people are willing to pay seems like a good way to lose 9/10ths your profit.
It seems more likely that they're trying to be the first to offload the shocks to the comparatively small casual crowd before they become worthless.
Quote from SkySharkI can't really imagine Lightning Bolt being reprinted im M10, too.
One reason for that (which was not already mentioned i hope) is the presence of Planeswalkers.
Lightning Bolt will often destroy a Planeswalker for just one red mana.
When facing a single untapped mountain you would never be able to go below 4 Loyalty if you did not want to lose your Planeswalker. Seems way to strong to me, after all.
First Post, Yay^^
Quote from Chronitog Drake »Anyone notice he has Duress and Black Knight out there as well. Im pretty sure they were spoiled after the pics were posted. Not saying that Bolt will be back just interesting. Not sure if im happy seeing him have damnation up there as well.
Quote from gilradKay so lightning Bolt is in. Time to turn to the other half of the thread topic:
Think lightning can strike twice (pun intended), and that the store is also right about damnation?
Quote from onlainariI'm going to say it in this thread too.
I think lightning bolt will be in M10.
