Honestly, Bolt is not that playable in Legacy anymore. ****ing Tarmogoyf. It's really only played in Burn and Goyf Sligh.
It also tends to see play in ugr Countertop. I would be okay with a lightning bolt reprint although I highly doubt its return. I would rather pray to WoTC for Wrath of God and that has a much higher probability in my mind.
Someone mentioned Chain Lightning - I think that actually may be a reasonable contention.
With all the available mana-fixing around nowadays, the ability of an opponent to bounce it back at you wouldn't be out of the question, and a decent drawback.

You're not your deck.
You're not how much mana you have in your pool.
You're not your half-naked, animè girl card sleeves.
You're not your DCI rating.
You're not your freaking ‘Coldsnap Prerelease’ t-shirt.
You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the Multiverse.

Chain Lightning seems to complicated and intricate for M10.
How does something that has already been printed obsolete things?
Because they never existed in the same format before.
Its no more powerful than path........<_<
They are different spells. Bolt is far better and more powerful than Path in a lot of situations.
I mean sure in other formats it will be run over shock....but in standard we have no idea what red is losing or gaining
If they printed Bolt then virtually everything else Red gets would have to be garbage. That would be about the only way to make it fair. And even then you'd just see people running decks of other colors and splashing Red for Bolt.
Well since people brought this thread back, I thought I would give the update I gave on the other LB thread:
I recently noticed a trend at the card shop that is speculating that LB will be in M10: They are selling shocks en masse for cheap. Usually they are just under 100 yen (~$1USD), with a few scattered about the bargain bin for 89 yen (and I suspect, the majority behind the counter). Nowdays, though, there is a mass of Shocks in the bargain bin for 19 yen, and it is not entirely difficult to find them in the junk commons pile for 10 yen.
So it looks like the card shop is selling what they think will be obsoleted shocks before they're worth less than the paper they're printed on. This pretty much lays to rest people arguing that the store is just trying to capitalize on the rumor season by selling lots of Lightning Bolts.
It should also be noted that this is one of the more major card shops in the greater Tokyo area, so it wouldn't surprise me if they received this information from the inside, then listed it as "pure speculation" to protect the informant and themselves from WotC. But this is just speculation on my part.
Either way, I think this is pretty strong evidence for LB being in M10, because unlike some guy coming on the boards saying he has a friend on the inside, this information has some actual consequences--namely, the loss of credibility from the store and lots of money from undersold cards.

Umm...Shock has ALWAYS been 10 cents at my store. It sounds like your store likes to over/underprice things to build hype and encourage specific cards to sell. Maybe they dropped the price on Shock because no one would ever pay $1 each for them.
Here in Tokyo that is not the case. Every major store I have been to overprices common removal spells. Heck, even Studio Enndal, the major Japanese online store, sells them for double the value of online stores elsewhere.
Overpriced singles--especially something like shock is quite common over here, which is why it is incredibly suspect that the floodgates have been released and they are selling for dirt cheap prices in large quantities. It is certainly NOT a very common occurrence in my experience with this store.
say you own a card shop, you buy and sell all day with the goal of making a profit.
say there is a RUMOR on a heavily traffic website that a certain card is coming back.
what do you do?
A. Ignore it
B. Exploit it
well, if you had a bunch of that card sitting around collecting dust, and suddenly there is rumors of its return flying around, you understand that there are going to be people who want to "get it while its cheap" regardless of if IT is even in the set.
you should probably have chosen option B.
this happenend on a very small scale with nacatl war-pride. when alara was spoiled to have nacatl in it the prices of it went up ever so slightly. nothing ever came of it.

The online store I can understand, as a lot of players like foreign cards and will pay extra for them. In-store, that's pretty dumb, though I'd imagine the sudden drop is just them clearing out ANY potential drops from Standard. Has anything else dropped that was in 10th but might/probably not be in M10?
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.

Then how can you explain the sudden price drop on their shocks? Selling your entire stock of a card for 1/10th the price people are willing to pay seems like a good way to lose 9/10ths your profit.
It seems more likely that they're trying to be the first to offload the shocks to the comparatively small casual crowd before they become worthless.

it could be that is exactly what they are doing, there is nothing saying that shock is IN M10. business is all about taking risks, the card shop owner is just taking a risk in offloading all his shocks under the assumption that LB is in M10. or under the assumption that people will believe lightning bolt is in M10.
Come on now, if I had a shop, i would follow this site around like a freakin lemming.
im sure when everyone was so positive that the shocklands were coming back that the prices of those rose too. (even though they are already pretty pricey due to extended)
and also, to say you are losing 9/10ths of your profit by selling a common... its not quite the same if the price of your common was already inflated lol.
I hope they do reprint Lightning Bolt. They should be printing good cards like this again instead of the crappy alternatives that they keep putting out. Lightning Bolt becomes a lot worse when you put Counterspell and Duress back in Standard.
If WoTC wants people to spend more money on their game, they should print stuff that is good across all formats and not just Standard anyway. That's how they could make a lot more money because people that play Legacy would have a reason to buy new cards instead of just in the secondary market.
Anyone notice he has Duress and Black Knight out there as well. Im pretty sure they were spoiled after the pics were posted. Not saying that Bolt will be back just interesting. Not sure if im happy seeing him have damnation up there as well.
I can't really imagine Lightning Bolt being reprinted im M10, too.
One reason for that (which was not already mentioned i hope) is the presence of Planeswalkers.
Lightning Bolt will often destroy a Planeswalker for just one red mana.
When facing a single untapped mountain you would never be able to go below 4 Loyalty if you did not want to lose your Planeswalker. Seems way to strong to me, after all.
First Post, Yay^^
I normally ignore first posts because I'm extremely cynical, but this is actually a really good point. In a format that's bound to be heavy on Planeswalkers, direct burn becomes ever so slightly better. Making Lightning Bolt slightly better is a really bad idea. At the same time though, if Planeswalkers seem to be dominating the format (not really happening now but who knows), printing super-efficient burn could counterbalance them. But then, that's the definition of power creep, isn't it?

Duress and Black Knight were 2 of the first cards we knew. BK was one of the first batch confirmed directly by WotC and Duress was all but assured when Divine vs. Demonic came out with its new art, so it's been a while for both.
Kay so lightning Bolt is in. Time to turn to the other half of the thread topic:
Think lightning can strike twice (pun intended), and that the store is also right about damnation?
i just asked the same question in the main rumor mill thread. i think there's a fair amount of weight to this as lightning bolt was a 1 in a million chance of reprinting and turned out to be correct.

Oh yeah I called it, I called it over and over and over. And I wasn't just lucky, I looked at the evidence.
