I like the black on black art. it's one of the major factors that they are desirable. Begrudgingly picked one up for $230. I guess it's a good deal all things considered.
Still, it would be nice if more people had the oppurtunity to get this. And the future FTV. Magic is kind of being an elitist ***** lately.
I didn't see it on the website. and I checked pretty often...
I don't think they had any left because people on twitter said they waited 5 hours in line and missed out...
They may not, but even if they did I would be expecting to see them on Monday (U.S. time) at the absolute soonest. Probably would have been more like Tuesday or Wednesday.
I know that these will probably not end up online, but maybe they save an allotment just for online sale. One can dream anyway.
The thing is, I can't even navigate the hasbro toy shop website that well. I think I would like to check back for a couple of days just to get my hopes up. Can someone post a link to where I would be able to find these? Or perhaps someone can give me better directions on how to navigate the site. I can't even find Magic cards at all right now. :-(

Damn, I thought these would look way cooler, but seeing them makes me realize how much detail is lost in this art style. They're cool, but they shouldn't have a $400-500 price tag...
I think the market is still trying to find a price, but there are good indications of where it will end. My best guess is that it will land in the 500 area for retail as SCG has thrown thier dart and they are usually correct. It is a nice round number and it would put the average card at a hundred, which seems about as fair as we could expect for such a limited print run. Auction value would be a bit below that.
A big jump happenned this weekend when a lot of folks recognized that they had no chance to get them on the Hasbro site, indicating a couple things. Firstly, the only way to get one was on ebay. Secondly, this was a much smaller print run than we assumed. I assume that several (15-20) of the auctions were won by SCG, feel free to chime in if you want to elaborate or anything else Ben.
I don't see anything wrong with this type of release. The bigger story right now is the Jace reprint. Th SDCC promo is a really cool product which got little to no press because very few are going to get it. If you like super rare versions of ho hum planeswalkers, it will cost you. I would know. I got mine and I paid well for it. Just another Commander's Arsenal for my collection. A big thanks to Wizards for having the gusto to have some fun with the card design and making a rare varient at the same time.
I just realized that the art for the black on black Jace is the same art on the Jace T-Shirt sold at the trading card displays at some Walmart and Target stores.
Well it seems the general consensus is that if you want this product its ebay or starcity games. I am tempted to pick one up but $500 is a lot when you can just buy normal versions.

I never saw the sketches! I think the art is pretty awesome still. Chandra looks fantastic. I am keeping my fingers crossed for tonight! Or the next couple days and on the hour....Pffffff.
Steve Prescott's blog had sketches for Garruk and Jace. Both looked REALLY good. I haven't seen the sketches for the others, but it's probably the same deal. The links are in this thread, and I imagine you can find them by googling as well.
That's not a problem. That's human nature. Economic incentive is the most powerful force in the universe.
Hasbro/WoTC are the problem by creating the situation with such a limited print run.
This is par for the course for Convention exclusives.
Toy collecting fans are used to this, comic collecting fans are used to this- and Magic players are just trumpetting out their same predictable line of entitlement and butthurt.
Just like it's sensible to give a "gift" of a product to local gaming stories to help eek up the bottom lines (FTV, Commander's Arsenal), it's nice that there can be special editions at cons- this will be a great help to all of those people that make it a point to go and support those cons.
Giving up a half-day of con activities to stand in line for exclusives is what helps keep some people, especially those who volunteer at said cons, to be able to subsidize part of their trip with a few purchases and ebay sales of hot exclusives.
It's good for the health of the con circuit- which frequently serves as a hype generator for Magic.
This is par for the course for the industry.
This is par for the course for Hasbro.
This is not a problem.
The only reason it seems so galling right now is because Hasbro and Wizards has been dumb enough to jam this, Modern Masters and FTV 20 into such a compressed time frame, with the only other available products being Dragon's Maze and M14... both of which look to be seen by the "internet fanbase" as underwhelming.
Our LGS is selling individual cards for $85 each and the box set from Comicon for $400. But, they are also giving away a few of the box sets as prizes for big events. Not sure exactly how many box sets they were able to get (or from where), but its less than 10 for sure.
Also, these cards are hideous. Especially the Liliana and Ajani.

I'm soooo glad that I was right about these. They are going to be CRAZY expensive in a few years. Got my 2 at the convention (glad I didn't wait) and ordered two more for 220 online before they went up. Couldn't be happier.
"If fetch lands are reprinted I really believe they will be in allied colors (aka Onslaught fetches). If the fetch lands are reprinted you better believe that we'll all be fetching up basics. This would lead me to believe that the set after THS may have a reprint as the temples can't be fetched but it's pure speculation." - posted 03/22/2014 proved correct during Khans spoiler season.
"The set releases for fall 2015 (Blood, Sweat and Tears) and fall 2016 (Lock, Stock and Barrel). One or both of those 2 blocks (I'm betting) are going to contain either Fetch reprints or (more likely) Filter reprints. Filter lands still need a reprint. They are getting pretty high up there and it's been longer than ZEN so it makes a little more sense that Filter lands would see print earlier that fetches." - posted 03/22/2014 proved incorrect about filters coming earlier than fetches, still pending on filters in Origins block.
There's a point were a company gets to greedy, and self-serving, and exploitative, that it ends up poisoning its own well and can't recover.
I am sick of stuff like this. Collectable is one thing, but this is insane.
The funny thing is that the company (WotC) isn't making any more money on this product. When they release such a small amount it's the second handers (SCG, TCGplayer etc....) that profit. WotC still makes their $65 a pop. They really should have quadrupled the availability and it still would have been a tough-to-get exclusive. This exclusive made history being the only thing to sell out in the first day of comic con. (that's never happened with anything else)

Enjoy your art. Wish there was a playable planeswalker in the bunch, but at least they did this with a group of 5 that won't see much play in the long run. Would have been upset if there was a good planeswalker in the bunch.
Its a fools hope to think these are going to be sold online at Hasbro. Its a bummer, but hey, life goes on. To be honest I don't own any of these planeswalkers and would like to have them, period. Ill just buy the regular versions! Pimp factor be damned!

Where did you find original sketches of the cards?

Yeah - funny I bought one of the shirts in Philadelphia a while back having no idea where the Jace art had come from.

But not the cards themselves though. Its progress!
I wonder if any will actually hit the website or not.
From what I've heard...no. I wouldn't expect any to be on the website.
