Let me just preface this by saying I am not the kind of person who just likes to complain about anything, these are serious gripes that I think everyone shares with the debacle that will likely end MTG as we know it, Theros.
I would just like to say that I thought that Theros was a huge letdown for a variety of reasons. I've been playing MTG since 1977 and this might be the first set that I don't fork over carloads of money to Wizards. All of my friends and I agree, this set is Dead on Arrival and I don't think ANYONE is going to buy a single pack of it. There were so many things wrong with this set that frustrated me, just a couple of the worst offenders:
1. There were too many rares / mythics that just seemed like they were made for EDH and nothing else. Big splashy effects for more mana than than there are turns in a majority of tournment games. It was really disappointing to see Wizards do this because they have NEVER done anything like this before and I definitely didn't see it coming from a mile away. As a tournament player (who hasn't missed a FNM at my local card shop for almost 25 years), I was saddened that not every card catered to what I wanted.
2. Despite the prevalence of big splashy effects, too many of the money cards were rare or mythic. Unlike M14, where one of the better 2 drop red creatures printed (young pyromancer) was printed at uncommon, it seemed like most of the tournament staples were either rare or mythic! It seems like Wizards is just trying to get people to buy as many packs as possible. It's NOT FAIR :-(
3. I felt like Red didn't get enough good effects. Despite the fact that red-based decks have been dominating standard for the last yearish, I felt as though there were not enough good red cards printed compared to good cards from all the other cards. It's NOT FAIR to my favorite color!!! Could you believe they printed ANOTHER giant dragon card at mythic instead of printing something playable!?!?!?!?
4. I know I kind of mentioned it with #1, but this was important enough I think it's worth mentioning again. It just seemed like we could have called theros "Commander #2". Ever since Wizards took notice that EDH / Commander was one of the most popular formats with the player base, they have been designing cards specifically for them. It's really been a huge letdown that they are printing all of these cards that don't seem like they're going to be good in standard.
5. Similar (or in some cases with reprints) cards existed at higher power levels in the history of MTG at lower rarities. I could not believe that they printed that draw spell at that much mana, you know the one I'm talking about, Fact or Fiction was a WAY better card at the same cost! It's almost unbelievable that they would do that.
6. That they reprinted Pelakka Wurm at RARE!?!?!?!?? I couldn't believe it. I mean, I know it's silly powerful for its effect and mana cost (gains you 7 life, replaces itself when it dies, and is a giant trample dude that can win you the game all on its own), and that it's from a set (Rise of the Eldrazi) with a REALLY high power level for their rarity (where there were a large number of cards that SHOULD have been shifted up in rarity). BUT STILL!, if I wanted to open up uncommons from RotE, I would just buy a RotE pack!!!!!!
Anyway, I was really disappointed with Theros after looking through the completed spoiler, what did you guys think?
(On a somewhat related note I live in an apartment with very thin walls and the internet meme "Surprise buttsecks!!" isn't just on the internet anymore. Man that girl sounded pissed off.)

I never really thought Theo was a let down. Did he upset Bill a few times? Of course, but man, as the Cosby show progressed I always thought Theo grew into an upstanding guy.
how can anyone complain about theros? I mean it turned out to be the magical christmas set that everyone wanted: thoughtseize at uncommon, allied fetches reprint, remand, aven mindcensor and the rest of all wanted modern cards absent of modern masters. the nerve of some people...
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
come on guy theros is great
look at kiora atua: a 4 abilities planeswalker Rampant Growth ,fattie fetch , Back to Nature , and Marit lage all in a 1UG walker.
You hate the set cause you can't buy Kiora ha
And introducing the long-awaited sixth color (Magenta) was a colossal failure. First of all, it should have been purple. Magenta cards are easily mistaken for Red cards. And second, Magenta's slice of the pie has crippled Black, Red, and Blue so much, those colors aren't even worth playing anymore. Third, MOONFOLK ARE BLUE!!! I know Magenta is supposed to represent space and all, but seriously Wizards, couldn't you have come up with something better? You just printed a Blue Moonfolk planeswalker, FFS!
Nyarlathotep must all things be told

This thread should be locked.... and then reopened again when the set comes out.
Then, many people will not realize it was a joke all along.
what joke? OP sounds trustworthy enough and the first card we get of the set is a rarity bumped Pelakka Wurm. Way to ruin the start of spoilers for limiteds sake wotc!

And anyone who has a different opinion than me on a set should be carded, have their topic locked, and a post left by a moderator pointing to this thread.
Seriously.
Almost every spoiler winds up with someone voicing their opinion. It's more than a little ridiculous.
When it happens every set almost verbatim, it stops becoming "voicing an opinion" and starts becoming useless, nonconstructive babble.
Also, note that you are also assuming I have an opinion differing than that of the people who post things like this, something that I have not indicated in either direction. You are being presumptuous.
There was a rumor in another thread that they might reprint BASIC LANDS.
Such TRASH. OMG Wizards. They only produce one color!!! EDH is ruining the game. I mean, "Island"? It should have had "draw a card" or something to make up for that. WHAT A WASTE OF CARDBOARD! So stupid. Wizards BETTER make me a sandwich for this...

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
