Very interesting.
Still up in the air but this could mean that Friends/Romans/Countrymen OR the block after that could possibly be Snow-Themed that is expanded upon.
Though I must admit it seems rather weird in my opinion to update a symbol that came out around 2005 (IMBWSCMP). After all the snow symbol was simple but easily identifiable at the same time that is now being retroactively changed.
At the minimum, they are simply updating it to make it consistent with other mana symbols. Or a way to make it more recognizable in digital formats.
On the other hand, updates could mean a return of the mechanic. For example, the rule of +1/+1 cancelling -1/-1 counters were made in preparation for Lor/Sha block. Updating Threshold rules hinted its single timeshifted return.
Coldsnap was moderately OK, but it had the lankiness of the mid-sets. Now that the power creep has leveled off & the playing field can now have 4/4 for 3/4 mana, a snow-themed set can actually seam playable. Plus, there can never be enough Aurochs :D...
I'd be insanely excited for another snow set. I'm hoping this means more snow cards, i can't see them printing snow lands or really snow anything in Modern Masters

I can see them printing Scrying Sheets or Mouth of Ronom to semi-troll us. (Hey, Mouth of Ronom has seen extremely fringe play in Modern...)
the new symbol reminds me of the old Plains symbol.
also, the fact that the new symbol is designed with an embossed mana circle underneath it might hint that it will be used for casting costs of cards (and not just for activated abilities)
I think the most likely answer is Modern Masters, although there really aren't many relevant snow cards in Modern, which makes it seem unlikely that they'd put snow in Modern Masters, as it would require them to include snow lands for the sake of limited, and then they'd need to include enough snow cards to make snow relevant in limited.
tldr; I think snow is too parasitic of a mechanic for limited to be in Modern Masters.
I would really enjoy seeing another snow block. I don't feel that it's been properly explored yet. (Although Scrying Sheets could become insane if Snow cards ever become good.)
Reprinting basic snow lands in Modern Masters might be a possibility. The use of snow mana could make for some nice limited cards.
Excep for the fact that the stated that there were NO basic lands in this set, Snow Covered Basics would also NOT appear in this set... So let's just discredit this right now...
I think it's possibly a hint at an auxiliary release (Planechase, Archenemy, Commander) or, a hint towards a new expansion, or maybe, it'll appear in DGM, who knows?!

I could see all of the Commander precons this summer have snow-covered lands in them. Not a big deal to have them in there (there's nothing really stopping them from printing them in mass quantities. they used to come in Coldsnap Fat packs in high #s)
I've always said they missed an opportunity with Coldsnap and the "snow permanent" situation.
I liked the idea of Coldsnap, but as a block, it just didn't work because there weren't enough interesting snow permanents in Coldsnap and there were too many permanents in Ice Age & Alliances that should have been 'snow'.
I've posted this before, but I think there should have been a "Snow Card" in every booster pack. This would be the same slot in the booster as the Timeshifted cards and double-faced cards.
Give them a blue border or a blue expansion symbol or something, but this slot should be used to reprint old Ice Age & Alliances cards that should have been 'snow'. This would include things like Arctic Foxes, Blizzard, and Glacial Chasm.
They could call them snow-shifted or whatever.
If they do a 2nd Ice Age, I still hope they do something like this.
Very interesting. Perhaps it's for Friends, perhaps they're giving M14 a snow subtheme? OKay, maybe not M14. Maybe Friends is going to take place on Valla? I'd dig that.

Well, it would make sense to do it this time. Sadly, Ravnica had an aura that added mana equal to a permanent's mana cost to your mana pool. Since snow isn't a color and is actually mana produced by a snow permanent, putting it on a snow permanent will just get you colorless mana that isn't snow. I think it'll be interesting to see how much they'll push things costed with snow mana. You could even go 5/5 for 4 with an ability at uncommon or something since it might have an even greater drawback than Imperiosaur. Infact, that might have been what they were hinting at with the card.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
I will be absolutely be ecstatic if they bring back snow cards, whether it is in a full set or a supplemental product given that Ice Age was my big introduction to Magic. I think there's plenty of design space left to be explored so I will be curious to see what happens either way.

Almost assuredly Modern Masters.

When do they normally do the announcement for the big set? It's quite a few months beforehand normally right?

I can only dream. Favorite tribe. <3
I hope they bring back snow mana. It was a cool idea. Snow permanents are just fun.
I would like it if we were in Dominaria more often. I miss the old themes/names, such as Urborg, Tolaria, Serra, Sengir, Kjeldoran, etc...

The next big set is usually announced sometime in March.
