This screenshot from Duels 2 shows the mechanics in use in the game. In addition to all the mechanics currently in standard it has the additions of Shadow and Fading. This *may* not be indicative of the mechanics returning in M12 - but their inclusion in the game is interesting since Shadow hasn't been in since Time Spiral and Fading hasn't been in since Nemesis.
I don't see why they'd let people play with the mechanics in Duels 2012 without letting players use them in the current game. Judging by how Innistrad is sounding, though, those mechanics probably fit better there.
This game is getting more and more interesting. I've never played with either of those mechanics before.
i believe it has already been stated that M12 will have one returning (non-evergreen) keyword mechanic, and that has already been revealed to be Bloodthirst.
interesting to see the mechanics added to DotP, though.
That's strange... if it was coming back, I'd assume they'd use Vanishing instead of Fading.
It would be a little confusing to have both together, so they probably just picked one over the other. My guess is that they wanted Blastoderm for Garruk's deck more than anything with Vanishing.
It sounds more like Innistrad, but either way I think these could be legit for some upcoming block. We had the return of poison spoiled in a similar way before SOM came out after all.
yeah, should change the title to [DoTP] from [M12], as these two mechanics would certainly have born discussion in the WoTC "Mechanics of M12" article if they were going to be used for M12.
Interesting for sure to see them in DoTP tho'.

Slingin' cardboard out of Yokohama, Japan. (if you're local and play EDH or want to test competitive, drop me a line!)
Basically, they changed it to when the last time counter is removed, the creature is sacked. In Fading, it kept going until you could not remove anymore counters.
Is there any real difference between vanishing and fading and if not why did they do two different but same abilities?
The difference is that with Vanishing upon the removal of the last counter the permanent goes away, where as fading stuck around for an extra round, I think it was MaRo that said that RnD wanted people to feel like something happened when a counter was removed, fading kind of took away from the counter removal feel.

In addition to it being more intuitive for it to die when you removed the last counter, Vanishing used time counters instead of fade counters. This was important because of the significance of time counters in TS block.
They said they did not like how Fading worked, not the mechanic itself. As others have said, the reason when you removed the last counter, nothing really happened, which felt odd.

No, not really. IDK why we use two different terms.
