I can see the new Megrim and Quest for the Nihil Stone working great together in a deck. Basically even if they are in topdeck mode, their getting hammered for 5 life.

Im quite the contrary. Baneslayer in and Tendrils out. Or Wizards have a good plan, or they really dont want black in competitive standard and want W/U to dominate..
TENDRILS IS OUT ?, NOOOOOOOOO...

Yawgmoth, the ruler of Phyrexia, Lord of the Wastes, Father of Machines, is DEAD. He's passed on. He is no more! He has ceased to be! He is expired and gone to meet his maker! He is a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace! He kicked the bucket, He has shuffled off his (apparently)mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!
I like the new Megrim. I wouldn't consider it a highly competitive card, but I'd definitely enjoy making a fun B/R aggro deck with it, Blightning, Burning Inquiry, Mind Rot...
Oh great, black is getting shafted in yet ANOTHER set. Can't wait to see how else White, Blue, and Green are getting great stuff.
More dysfunctional reprints and limited only cards. Excellent. Even the specter isn't as good as Hypnotic Specter, which I'm afraid looks like it won't be in the set because of this. Don't get me wrong, OP, I appreciate you showing us the new cards...I just wish they were better.
I swear to God, if Doom Blade is the best black removal in T2 after this set, I won't be happy.
I don't know why everybody hates on Megrim. I play against a competitive meta and have won many games with it. What people who usually play discard don;t realize is that they have to save their discard cards. Sure Duress and Inquisition are great in small doses, but you gotta save Mind Rot etc for when you have 2 or even 3 Megrims out. You can easily kill a dude in a turn or two if you play control the first few turns then drop heavy discard later.

It's understandable blue control players would be shocked and in denial at the notion of this card, since their decks have been dominating multiple formats for an eternity yet they've curiously never once had to deal with any counter-hosers that weren't ineffectual, narrow CRAP.
First off, formats always change. Blightning started off as "just okay," and then quickly leapt to one of the most unfair cards in recent history as soon as Lorwyn rotated. So keep an open mind.
Also, the drop in mana cost is a HUGE deal. I can't count the number of cards that people say would be constructed viable, if only it cost one less. So now we finally get a card that DOES cost less, and people say it's junk? Crazy.
And now that we know Mind Rot is in M11 as well, I could easily see the first few turns of a game:
T1: Inquisition of Kozilek (steal turn 2 or turn 3 play)
T2: Lilliana's Caress
T3: Mind Rot (discard 2 take 4), or Specter, or god forbid, Blightning (7 damage???)
T4: Tendrils for 4
T5: Mind Rot + Doom Blade mana up, or Consume the Meek
T6: Rotting Rats + Unearth, maybe Bloodghast..
I haven't played mono-black control since Time Spiral, so I'd have to look at some lists. But I think making Megrim costs one less makes a HUGE difference in what you can do with it. Spending your second turn playing out a Caress, when there's still probably nothing on the field, is miles ahead of turn 3, when you can Mind Rot, or play out a Specter or a Nighthawk. It fits into the curve SO much better now.
I agree. It's obvious that the original planeswalkers will be used. I mean it would be odd to have Lilliana's Specter with Sorin as the planeswalker for the set. It's just going to be the straight forward normal ones.

You've spent about 5 seconds reading this. I hope it was well spent.
Look at me! I can bold words and use CAPSLOCK to emphasize my point! Hopefully I can trick people into ignoring that I completely have no evidence in my post to back up my claims if I make it look fancy enough.
Hmm, so competitive black is not getting love again. What else is new?
Look on the bright side. This happened to blue recently (and white before it)and now it has Jace the Metasculptor and good new stuff coming in constantly. The pendulum swings, its just a bummer that it never seems to be even all around...

What is the problem in making all colors balanced? Sometimes it looks like the pendulum just swings in the direction of the personal preferences of the actuals designers and not in a logical way to make the game fun for all kind of people.

I think you misread my comment. I'm agreeing with you. It just is what it is. Besides if Nocturnus is out, we can hope for two new mythics. Maybe one of them will be an actually playable black walker... or something?

Black hasn't been competitive since fairies, correct? Sure there is a couple Gold cards in Jund that has Black as a casting cost but I wouldn't consider it a Black deck since it splashes Black for Putrid and Blightning. That just tells me that Shards has some powerful Gold Cards.

man, black in M11 is kinda reminding me of the way it was back in 8th edition. At this point, all I think it needs is Grave Pact and it should be pretty nuts in limited
If that was reprinted, I think BG eldrazi tokens would be one of the strongest decks out there
I'm totally digging Liliana's Caress the new Megrim, and I'm going to have to resurrect that old Stronghold preconstructed deck that I modified way back in the day that I have sitting in my closet.
Liliana's Caress may even actually see play competitively, and it has me giddy inside
I have always been glad to play Phyrexian Rager or Chittering Rats, this new specter is quite similar to those. Nice one, Wizards.
Loving the return of genuinely funny planeswalker text, strange that vess gets them rather than chandra though.
Fingers crossed for duress.
Tribal: Zombies.
Five color staircase is in development.

Akuma will wreck you.
Specter = Def an improvement over Rats, but I'd probably rather have Hyppie. This is the most interesteing card of the bunch.
Shade = Awful, just awful.
Horror = I like his menacing spikiness (art, that is).
