MTG Salvation

My GF was buying some packs of ZEN n M10 at one of the shops yesterday and the guy gave her a foil called Leatherback Baloth. I've not seen the card yet, but according to her, its a green vanilla creature, P/T is 4/5 n the casting cost is GGG. I'll be meeting her tonight n I'll try to post up scans of the card. Has anyone heard anything like this yet??

Don't they usually send out a promotional common to stores? That may be what this is, but until we have more evidence, we'll be skeptical, and rightfully so.

Not bad for mono, but honestly I don't think a 4/4 for GGGwould see much play.

It BEGS for something More... Shroud, Multikicker, SOMETHING... but even if this is real.. it seems good for a Green beatdown deck... I loved Llanowar Behemoth. If this is anything like that, then it's ok in my book. even if it's chaff to everyone else

Isn't a 4/4 for 3 slightly above the curve, even without an ability?

edit: Would likely have a drawback of some sort.

If it's real, I choose the Stag over this anytime!

Doesn't seem that impressive after all we've been spoiled with, but I like it either way if it's real.

I recall so many people calling fake on the January FNM card. Seriously, im inclined to believe this for two reasons:

One: The block is pushing monocolor, so a GGG isn't too much of a stretch.

Two: What reason does he have to lie about a common?

Honestly it's not power creep at all. Its drawback is the tough mana cost. In that sense its not format breaking, since GGG isn't necessarily easy to achieve in the average standard/ limited deck

We already have much better creatures that cost GGG, so this is nothing big. But, it is another fun toy for Primalcrux. It's believable, at least.

I can believe this. Remember that "Convertible Turtle" is supposed to be a common UUU creature, and there's no way that wouldn't be part of a cycle. I feel like this kind of thing will be annoying in limited, though, as monocolor can be pretty difficult to pull off (outside of Shadowmoor).

"Convertible Turtle" is supposed to be UUU? Says who? I'm not sure if this would be a cycle though if true. If this guy is vanilla, it wouldn't fit along side the turtle who we know has some kind of landfall ability. Anyway, this OP and card both seem very reasonable. I would like to see the scans but I see no reason to call fake as of right now.

I'd say its real. Its one power less than thoctar cause its monocolored but really outside of a mono green deck its pretty much just as hard to cast.

Real, but horribly unexciting imo.

It's hardly creep considering Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers is easier to cast and has vigilance (although it only is 3/4).

Good point. I thought I heard the turtle was going to be rare. If it is not, that is unfortunate, I was looking forward to a powerhouse creature for UUU for once.

It doesn't sound too bad to me at all, it'll be good for my Kamahl EDH deck though

It would fit fine
Woolly Thoctar fit with the Sprouting Thrinax (and so on) cycle and it was vanilla.

Will fill the 3-drop slot in Mono-Green Eldrazi decks.

I hope it's real. Green needs creatures above the curve. It's what Green does.
