So people belly-aching about "From the vault: Lands/P9" can put it to rest as after the listed planned premium cards they will be keeping hands off the reserve list for premium and non-premium cards. I for one am unhappy to hear this.
*Note* If you want to complain to wizards about this here's a link: *Note* The way to get things changed is to give feedback to WoTC, do this by sending them an e-mail if you're unhappy about this decision. Especially judging by Aaron's twitter comment it seems this is a controversial decision even at Wizards. Here's a link to respond to the announcement: http://wizards.com/company/emailtoauthor.asp?author=Wizards%20of%20the%20Coast&headline=Revised%20Reprint%20Policy
Reserved cards will never be printed again in a functionally identical form. A card is considered functionally identical to another card if it has the same card type, subtypes, abilities, mana cost, power, and toughness. No cards will be added to the reserved list in the future. No cards from the Mercadian Masques set and later sets will be reserved. In consideration of past commitments, however, no cards will be removed from this list. The exclusion of any particular card from the reserved list doesn't indicate that there are any plans to reprint that card.
According to several tweets from MaRo and AaFo, we can assert the following:
Quote from MaRo »
The Reserved List - It's hard to defend a decision I can't talk about. It's just something we're going to have to live with.
Quote from Forsythe »
Sometimes the desires of the individual (me, others) and the needs of the corporation do not align. Won't be much more of an explanation.
Why would we stop pushing a format that has given us our largest attendance ever? Is there a better metric I don't know about?
Hasbro was not a factor in anything.
Also, it is important to keep in mind that WoTC had a meeting with outside consultants from the secondary market where the Reserve list was discussed, and they suggested removing it or scaling it back. WoTC went forward with this initiative, and after starting to print foil reserve cards in limited run product, something (extremely likely not stemming from WoTC themselves) caused them to reverse the policy entirely.
"These premium cards will be produced and distributed as specified. Thereafter, Wizards of the Coast will not print any physical, reserved-list card in a tournament-legal version, either in premium or non-premium form."
Wow, just when I thought wizards had finally seen the light about the reserved list they slap us in the face again. They need to listen to Ben Bleiweiss asap.
I honestly thought it was an announcement about cutting back the Reserve List
The new reserve policy is so dumb, "Hey guys, we can print cards on the restricted list!... but we're going to do it for a year and then give up on it forever!"
The new reserve policy is so dumb, "Hey guys, we can print cards on the restricted list!... but we're going to do it for a year and then give up on it forever!"
Well they are clearly responding to the large amounts of backlash (Read: *****ing) because of their decision. I think it's a pretty honorable choice to make even though personally I'm disappointed about it.
This seems rather stupid, to be honest. I'm all for WoTC keeping the reserved list, but killing the loophole seems unnecessary. I don't mind exceptions to the rules, and this just seems like a poor choice on their part.
It is about time they clarify this and I am very glad about new policy, not that anyone cares what I think. There is nothing wrong with Wizards protecting long-time players who bought into the game a long time ago.
This is lame. All this is is WotC giving into the whiners complaining about their precious $5 rares losing value. Ok, Diamond is higher than that, but still, it's not like there's a Time Walk in there or anything.
'Here, we'll tell you FTV: Relics has Mox Diamond, Memory Jar, and Karn, but just so you know, you're never getting cards like these ever again.'
Well, many thanks, Wizards. That statement was juicy meat surrounded by moldy bread, in my opinion. The reserve list flat-out doesn't make sense to me, but going a step further and closing loopholes on extremely limited, premium product is just a slap in the face.

The thing is, though, I've heard a lot more *****ing about the Reserve List existing than about cards being reprinted from of it.
Seems to me there's an easy way to fix this: Cause backlash about them closing the loophole that outwhines the backlash about using the loophole. I'm sure to be sending an e-mail to WotC about this.
Honestly I'd rather they did away with it than to keep using the foil loophole. The thought of them printing Foil BB Duals just grinded me wrong. I'd rather they come up with an excuse to print white border new frame duals, but then I dislike cards like that which reduce design space. Legacy Spikes, I know you don't agree, but I don't currently play Legacy so we're not in competition.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I for one is extremely disappointed with WOTC's decision. Legacy is becoming a very popular format among players now and there is an urgent need for newer copies of the format's staples in the market instead of having to search in vain for the cards that u need in order to be competitive in the format. This would only serve to drive the prices of certain cards to atmospheric levels. This is not good for the future and health of the game. I feel that they should have either left the reprint policy the way it was or scrap it entirely. Basically the only people that are happy with this update would be the dealers, collectors and some lucky players that have access to such cards or funds that allow them access to these cards.

"Ach! Cash, run! It's the Tarmogoyf!" -My Wallet, last words.
Does anyone think that this also means the end to any Judge Promos? How will Wizards handle such policies if post 2010, they will cease printing things like the new Natural Order? Do you think this will cause a major loss of judges?
This is stupid. Saying "we are going to reprint them now and never again" is something that they can come along and say in another 10 years.
It is frustrating and does not appease anyone. Think of how irritating a person who changes their mind "for now" is. It shoots their credibility to hell, you never believe them again. If they were to say, "we revised the decision not to reprint certain cards and decided that it was the wrong one, this is why" and stuck with that people would be angry but they would get over it.
Whoever took point on this decision needs to grow a backbone and so do the people who supported that person. I refuse to believe that could not see how bad it looks.

Is there an e-mail where we can register our displeasure of the changes?? Would you mind pm me the email add?? Thanks!!:D

It`s not that much of a problem since they`ve printed stuff like Vindicate, Balance, Exalted Angel which are non-reserved cards as judge promos.
However Wizards will have to find some post Masques cards that have high secondary market value and will therefore sell high as judge promos.

Yes, Wizards, I complained about your halfhearted walk-back of the Reserved List. I complained about it because it had all the downsides of eliminating the Reserved List but didn't take advantage of the benefits. The right solution was not to walk back your walk-back and close the loophole; the right solution was to be emboldened to finally eliminate the bad policy and replace it with something that actually takes into account the state of Magic in this, the year 2010.
This is absolutely the most disappointed I've been in a Wizards decision in years.

You really aren't hurting anyone by keeping the reprint policy, but you are hurting people by changing it.
However, I still don't like the decision and was expecting something completely different.
Count me as pissed about this one.
