If I'm playing some form of control deck, my 4th turn PW of choice would still be Ajani Vengeant.
That's such a ridiculous statement. Jace v2.0 is card advantage, the hallmark of control. Ajani is board control, sometimes useless, other times useful. But card advantage is always card advantage.
I can see arguments as to why one would play Jace v1.0 over v2.0 because of casting cost, but Ajani vs. Jace 2.0 is a no-brainer.

If my deck can support both then I would rather have ajani t4 on the play every time. And t4 on the draw most of the time.
The only card he combos with in Standard is a turn three Wall of Denial hitting the field before him.
So, is that why Lorescale does not see play in Legacy? Because it is a "bad card"?
The only reason Lorescale has not seen competitive play in Standard is because Brainstorm didn't exist. Guess what we have now...........ummmm........ what is it again.......... brainstorm? NOOOOO
It is better than Brainstorm. It is mutha effin Jace with Brainstorm for no penalty. BRAINSTORM ON A STICK. Pure card advantage and when paired with Coatl it is a house. If they don't deal with it then I am sure it will win you the game.
So if Coatl is a "bad card" then it would no play in any format. Rethink what you say and apply it to why cards see play in other formats. NUFSAID!

A big part of the Coatl and Brainstorm synergy is the ability to instantly give Coatl three +1 +1 counters. With Jace this is not possible.

Jacerator is an aggro deck - it just wins by attacking the library, it doesn't really control the board other than to play a few Fogs

No, what I have seen is that Brainstorm gives Coatl 3 counters no matter how you slice it. Doing it on my turn is no worse then doing it EOT. I could see your side if it actually cost me mana to use the Brainstorm ability on the new Jace. Guess what though? It doesn't. 3 counters a turn is better than 1 maybe 2 times you use brainstorm in a legacy game.

Its much easier to respond to jace's ability on your turn than it is to do it End of Opponents turn after they have tapped mana for things.

"Drawing" 9 extra cards each turn seems fun to me. I'm brainstorming around a creature based UGr deck with cantrip-creatures, the +1/+1-snake, some spells and new Jace right now :)~
Rejoice, Control players, for the time of victory is near. This card will cost more than Elspeth, don't you doubt. I will be stocking up on every one of these I can get my hands on.
Who cares? His ability costs nothing. Brainstorm is 1 cmc.
Well, Jace costs 4.
Which is not bad because you can play the snake and then by the time the snake is swinging you have gotten to use jace. However, the best play would probably get jace to 5 and THEN start brainstorming.
'Course brainstorming every turn will quickly make the snake a HUGE threat. Add in some sac lands to shuffle your deck while you brainstorm, and I think you have the start of a solid deck.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but doesn't the Sages replacement effect mean that you don't get the counters on your coatl?

Coatl sees little to no play in Legacy because it's a 3 mana dude with no evasion that sucks if you don't hold onto Brainstorms to "Charge" him. Generally, the decks that are looking to play him need the Brainstorms to fix their draws, since it's hard to hit 3 mana without them - they play 17 or 18 lands.

I agree. o.O
Though it's not America, so they probably didn't have a hundred people crammed against the window before the shop opened.

I agree. Turn 4 your wanting to play cards that control the board. Play ajani and take control. Once you have, drop jace and overwhelm them in CA.
Sadly, its not as Baneslayer Angel. Jace or no Jace.
But I like the idea of fixing your wishes and then bouncing the Djinn.

@Shojeel: you get four counters a turn, don't forget your usual draw!

The instant speed matters a whole lot. Coatl, Bolt, Brainstorm in response. It is a whole lot worse to do it on your turn when the stack is empty

Yes, but doesn't Jace stick around unlike brainstorm?

Yeah, it would. That'd be pretty funny though, turbo-scute mob

You can't chump it every turn. jk. I still like my start though.

You can't bolt Jace before they get to brainstorm, meaning you're wasting a bolt and they're getting a 6/6 beater.
