i was running a similar deck before that ran ok, but having this jace would make it run much smoother i think due to brainstorming instead of letting them draw to pump up your lorescale. the problem i ran into most was creature removal. other than essence scatter it wasnt happening, i was playing into the roil for a quick unsummon kicked draw for the lorescale but over all it didnt work great.
Yeah, Brainstorm makes the Coatl a lot better, but it also lets you filter for other big threats (like the JI Sphinxes that just win in this meta). The ability to put unneeded cards on the bottom just help so much.

There are two types of people in this world: people who think that countermagic is the most powerful effect in the game and people who aren't morons.
My color is Purple. I value diversity, smashed color pies and obsolete Inquest articles. At my best, I can redefine MTG in a new and wonderful way. At my worst, I can end up as an Unhinged joke. My symbol is not defined. My enemies are 5 old and bureaucratic angry colors.
This new Jace is terrible. Any 5 power shroud creature destroys it. How many decks aren't running 5 power shroud creatures? Zero. this card will not see any play. I can't wait to unload them at 20$ at the prerelease and laugh as they drop in value.
I think this Jace has a lot of potential; there is synergy with every color. Black discard lets you thin their hand while keeping potential threats from being drawn by way of +2: Fateseal. Red likes to throw Goblin Guide at their head so Jace can stand back and make sure they never draw anything other than land via the same +2: Fateseal. Green mixes it up with the Coatl getting huge with a helpful brainstorm. And White throws down largewalls to stand in the way of an otherwise stampeding army. I can't wait to see what people do with him!
I was one of the people saying Lotus Cobra was overhyped when it was spoiled, this guy, however, will be good and be splashed for it. Just keep in mind Everyone has mainboard answers for it (Jund-Pulse, Vampires-Hexmage, Esper-Counters (plus their own), Bant-O-Ring, Eldrazi Green-FlyingMonkeys)
have you actually played Jacerator? cuz....he's not better.
you want your opponent drawing more and more cards. JB is basically howling mines 5-8 (unless you count Fonts as 5-8...erm...5-12, in which case he's 13-16) drawing you into more fogs and depleting your opp's library until you can ultimate the last away or Archive Trap them. i would much rather (in that deck!) actively further my gameplan along than filter my draws or bounce a creature.
yes u have played it, and one quest for ancient secrets kills it, while the new jace screws their draws or get you a fog, then removes their library!!!!! they have their hand left to play from which will last like two turns maybe without tomescour or archive trap.
So... Hexmage just got a while lot better in my eyes.

But considering I've never seriously played blue, ever (except for draw/discard shennanigans to enable reanimator strategies), I'm just hoping to open this guy at the pre-Release so I can sell him and make my money back.

Love. Forgive. Trust. Be willing to be broken that you may be remade.
I know the original jace is "better" I would advocate playing this new one because of the ult being better. I know how jacerator works and i wouldn't even use bounce or brainstorm in that deck i would be scrying either my own library or theirs. then ult then archive trap? This jace speeds up the game for jacerator in your favor. you are still drawing all those cards and you can pick the top card of your library *with the scry* and mill the deck better then before but i think jacerator is going bye bye and a new blue white control deck will enter the format because of the man lands. live it while you can but one feb 5th there will be so many new control decks playing this jace over JB

He'd probably see play as a sideboard card in Jacerator, but hardly anyone runs Quest in their deck, the only one I know that does runs it maindeck as a one of, but no one plays that deck atm anyway (Time Sieve deck for those wondering).
Also, screwing up their draws isn't really a big thing in Jacerator where your opponent draws 4+ cards per turn.
at my store like 4 peope sideboard it, and thats only because people have stopped playing mill ( hedron crab got really popular at my store. we also hardly see jacerator) .

idk, i'd still prefer JB in that deck. it speeds up your "clock" by drawing you both cards, which in turn helps you find fogs easier than just a simple scry 1 every turn. it also curves out better. Mindsculptor kinda clogs up the curve with too much on the 4-slot (Font of Mythos, Day of Judgement, and this). coming down on turn 3 helps it curve out cleaner (does it even have any other action on 3? can't think of anything off the top of my head) and speeds up the draws. you do, indeed, draw less with Mindsculptor (taking both players into account especially) and the Scry 1 ability doesn't really let you "pick" what's on top, just what is not on top.
he's not terrible for the deck, but JB is just better for it. he has much more synergy with the gameplan. if you could play both it would be sweet, but alas.
any other control deck, though, yeah i'd rather have Mindsculpting action.
A reminder, the Cali store opens at noon Pacific Time; that's around 3 o'clock Eastern Time, 10 o'clock Hawaiian. (A cookie to whoever get's that reference.)
Give it about 45 minutes to an hour for the last piece.

Yeah, I am probably going to be making a U/B discard deck with him. Fateseal them while you're making them discard and then the final will kill them. (or close enough)
I will probably add white for Esper Charm, Day of Judgment and BaneSlayer Angel.
I wonder if the new jace will reduce the value of old jace... not that old jace is overpriced.
I like the old jace because he focuses more on drawing cards with a reputation of the planeswalker who has the lowest mana cost
The new jace is awesome too. He has great drawing ability as well as good control abilities to protect himself a little bit WITH A REPUTATION OF PLANESWALKER WHO HAS THE MOST ABILITIES.
Actually, I don't think I care about the price of old jace anymore lol
