Coalition Victory will most likely be the Mythic Rare in the Coalition Deck, maybe we'll get Yawgmoth's Agenda or something as the Mythic in the Phyrexian Deck.
I'm assuming the decks will be something a long the lines of "Black with a heavy artifact theme" vs. "Five color domain and friends".

I am very interested about how Wizards will go along creating the first multi-colored duel deck since we all know that The Coalition has to be multi-colored. Also, think of how many legends will be in this. With new card frames to add
Yawgmoths will and Yawgmoths Bargain the two most powerful cards to ever exist, one being banned before it ever saw print were not in FTV: E.
1. Neither Will nor Bargain were banned before they ever saw print. Both were legal as 4x in Type 2. Neither card was really broken at the time. Some mono black decks ran 1-2 Will, but with just 4x Ritual as fast mana it isn't really abusive. Bargain was the base for an Illusions combo deck that was ok but not really Tier I.
2. Both cards are on the reserve list and won't be in this set.
I don't think the Phyrexia deck has to be mono-black, although I would understand if it was. If the decks feature cards from the entire span of the Weatherlight saga, then I could see there being a better chance at mono-black. But, if it's detailing the Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria, then I'd bet it'd be something more like Grixis colors vs. 5-color. Tsabo Tavoc, the general during much of the invasion, was black and red, and also would be an ABSOLUTE HOUSE against the Coalition deck, which makes me wonder if she'd make it in.
Either way, I'm a loredork and Invasion is one of my favorite blocks, so I know I'm buying it.

Once I think about it you are right, I completely forgot about her invincibility and hatred towards Legends. Boy would these decks be fun to play assuming we are correct about these minor things.
I don't blame them for trying to make money. The fact alone that they are willing to release so much is a sure sign that they are willing to take risks and are being rewarded for it in a slowly rising economy.
He isn't a planeswalker , but he did dissect Difed ( i think that was her name , and she was a planeswalker and learned the secret of the spark ) , also he found the corpse of the dragon planeswalker that built phyrexia , so we don't know if he had the sparks transplanted. That would certainly explain his power.
I see, that would be absolutely awesome if they did decide to make a planeswalker card of him. He is my favorite villain.

Both cards were definitely broken right off the bat, though obviously less so in standard than in other formats. Bargain decks completely steamrolled everything almost immediately since it was pretty easy to dark ritual into on turn 2 or 3 at which point it is basically an auto-win.
Yawg Will's power level is a function of the other cards in the format. I doubt Yawg Will would be very good in a Duel Deck setting, because it would probably just wind up being an expensive and inconvenient regrowth. I could see Bargain being printed here since high mana costs are fine in casual decks, though as you point out both cards on the Reserve list anyway so it's irrelevant.

Dyfed took Yawgmoth to the plane that he made into Phyrexia and I believe left some kind of gate for him to travel through. However, Yawgmoth was not a planeswalker, and when Rebbec sealed the way between the two realms, he was unable to leave.
Back on topic - I really hope they don't bother with most of the stuff from earlier on and stick with the invasion of Dominaria as far as the non-legends go. And as far as characters I'd like to see as Legends...
And of course, I'd like key moments in the timeline that were made into cards to be represented well, like Obliterate when Barrin decides to blow up Tolaria in grief and anger.
I honestly might just make something myself for casual play.
That looks like a good line-up, Ertai is awesome. And yeah, they should also include the cards that represent huge moments in the storyline. I was so sad when Barrin did that..
this is sweet! good find. I love phyrexia. everything about it is sweet. its just a bad ass place. The invasion storyline was very rich because there was such a huge back story. I will actually buy this if there is good cards. Do you think that there will be new cards in it? More phyrexians? Possibly a new Yawgmoth card?
Do a lot of people buy these things? I've never been even remotely interested in them... what's the appeal, exactly?
Well, I'll probably buy every duel deck they ever make. It's a lot of fun to be able to skillfully play a precon against someone. It's like this sweet spot between limited and constructed where cards that are nuts in limited and 'unplayable' in constructed can really make their impact. Plus, there's alternate art for some rediculously powerful cards, like FOF and Tutor that are great for EDH and cubes. I also used one of the Incinerates in standard (I like to play with as many different versions as possible despite potential strategy issues)
Planechase is an entirely new way to play multiplayer and has tons of great multiplayer rares. It's a great pick for anyone that likes such things. It even has nice lands you can play in your deck. It's not like the efficiency curve is quite as strict when the game is almost certain to go longer.
The sliver deck isn't really for me and I seriously wish it wasn't foil (I really don't like foils)
FTV is annoyingly foil, but just has too many cool bombs to pass up.
Polyjak, These are fun sets to get to fill out your collections and if you're looking for a cool alternate art card for an EDH deck. Especially cards from the weatherlight saga which haven't been reprinted with new borders and many of my friends haven't ever seen because they didn't play back then. Man, having a playset of alt. art, new bordered, flametongues would be fun. or even some of the wild legends from Rath or Invasion Block would be great to see.
Your guaranteed to get the cards listed, and the cards are considerably better than what you get in a precon. I prefer these fun sets over a 4th set a year. Its a nice supplement and reinforces the "collector" aspect of this game that some times gets lost in all the Standard, PTQ, Nationals, Worlds, blah blah blah talk that some people love, but other people can't stand. (like me)
this game is a LOT of things to a LOT of people. while you like it for reason "X", others like it for reason "Z". so "Y" are you complaining?
If this comes with anything remotely powerful from the weatherlight mega block, it'll be well worth the 40 bucks. Its nice to see products that are worth the price- a precon at 10 bucks is fine for a new player, but a collector couldn't care less. but these sets with cool foils, new arts, etc are pretty special.
Do a lot of people buy these things? I've never been even remotely interested in them... what's the appeal, exactly?
getting premium versions with new artwork of powerful cards (like akroma, planeswalkers etc)
getting updated layout for old cards (like demonic tutor, dark ritual etc.)
getting two casual decks to play with
I'm sure there are more reasons...
I'm really happy wizards has decided to maintain another line of products that appeals to collectors, it makes mtg so much interesting... magic is not only for tournaments, keep that in mind.
as people said before me, these products are not for every mtg player. you don't have to buy them if they don't appeal to you, and you can stick to the regular sets like you've always been.
Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.

Fun Fact: I don't think Yawgmoth was/is a Planeswalker. I could be wrong though.
Hate to tell you but it's already been done.

That would be even better, except was he in the storyline at all when the Phyrexians were?

The Good Guys (that stay that way)
The Bad Guys (including Good Guys that didn't stay true)

In my dreams it would've been Elspeth vs Ajani.
Who's eating crow?
Also new artwork for Phyrexian Arena
no no. Original artwork for Arena in new frame.
That would be hot.
