I was reading either an email from WOTC or a flyer in with the launch party info, that the launch party has "promo cards" as participation prizes (valakut, everyone knows the card), but also included that it had unique prizes for top placing players. Are they just refering to the local store offering prizes, or is there supposed to be something along with the launch party materials?
I actually meant to call our store rep at wizards today but forgot Are there any Advanced TO's present who are hosting large scale pre releases who've received something from wizards other than the planechase promo and promo rare?

ALL IT TAKES FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING.
I'm good friends with the Advanced-level TO at my lgs (guess I have to be since I judge the things) and we haven't heard anything about any special extra prizes. Most stores do something extra anyway. I could see them doing another extended-art promo to go along with the Game Days ones, though that would hurt the value of those I'd think.
I'm the HJ for my local store's prerelease tomorrow. I went in yesterday to prep the product...looks like I'll need to go back again today. With the "priceless treasures" confirmed, I'm expecting to get more than just the 55 product/prize setup I made.
In answer to the OP's question, we DID get something extra. Life counters. These aren't spindown dice, though. They're a plastic punch-out sheet with approximately a dozen little pieces to put together.
When it's finished it's got four life totals displayed (labeled "You" and "Me" on each side). Tens place and ones place rotate separately, and it's configured to display the same total for both players at all times. It stands so that both players can look at it from their side and my "You" side is your "Me" side, etc. It's got two different card arts on it, one side has Vampire Nighthawk and the other has Vampire Lacerator.
The Valakuts are for next week's launch parties and the Rampaging Baloths are for this weekend. We also got the Celestine Reef planes in the same packages. There are as many Celestine Reefs as there area Rampaging Baloths, so everyone will get one until they're gone.
I'm pretty sure my store gets more than most because we have an Advanced-level TO in the store owner and being a judge makes me a Core-level TO automatically. I put in for my own prerelease kit in addition to the Advanced-level one, so I think we have something like 4 and a half cases of product between us and two cases of Intro Packs.
I believe the life counters are the 'extra' promo that we got for ordering from WotC direct. And have you tried to put one together? The smaller numbers don't spin very well, but they look kinda cool...
