According to the artwork from this website, it appears that Wizards of the Coast may have an earlier than expected release date for their new Duels of the Planeswalkers electronic game.
Originally scheduled for release sometime in the fall of 2009, the developer, Stainless Games may have brought it all together ahead of schedule and the game might be available as early as THIS MONTH - June 17th.
I was looking forward to this release being a Shandalar fan... but as it looks like the best game play is mostly available to online play only... I think I'll skip it. Possibly when it hits PC, but I can't justify paying too much money when I could just play Magic Online or head to the shop. I needed something a little different than just straight up AI bashing.
Wizards knows that the coming months will gonna be tough, so they are bringing everything they can to be released earlier.
My recomendations are ,do not buy anything related with magic ! And this is a serious ! Inflation is coming up and will eat everything in US path.
This is not flamming, just my economic view of things.
Take care you all.
How do you have inflation during a recession?
Anyway, I am looking forward to playing this game online with a bunch of friends. The promo Garruk is nice as well.:p
I didn't have a console for a fair few years, but this thing pushed me to splash out for an XBOX a couple of days ago... It'd best be good! (DotP, not the console - that thing's great ;))
I second that. In the mean time I'll be playing Guitar Hero until it comes out.
Sorry to continue this off-topicness, but surely if inflation is coming it'd be better for Wizards to wait a few months and use inflation as an excuse for releasing the game at a much higher price point?

I have written a proxy generator. If you have a deck you want to try out, you could do much worse that use this... mtg.edd-miles.com
When someone gets this game go fast on beating it ;-)
I want to know what Nissa is like and which abilitites she possess, just on a sidenote:
Are there planeswalker cards to be played in duel of the planeswalkers? or do those walkers just have specific decks like Tezzeret just blue artifacts like that etc or are really planeswalker are contained in those decks?
You play against the Character not Against the card, so as far as we know you play Against Nissa and As Nissa (vs games) but you dont play the Planeswalker Card for Nissa
The Article doesn't mention anything about being able to build custom decks.
It mentioned something about unlocking pre-existing decks, but no mention about custom deckbuilding. It would be a shame if you could only play pre-existing decks.

The problem is that increased price mean less sales and less profits, not to mention more games on the shelves. It's not a good thing for WotC or Hasbro.
Not every arcade game has a demo, hopefully this will.
EVERY arcade title on the Xbox Live Marketplace has a demo.. even the community games have trial modes.. now, not every Retail release has a demo.

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."
Just to clarify....Easily, the trillions of dollars stupidly pumped into the economy, which makes existing money worth a ton less, and causes prices to go up. Inflation is primarily driven by the supply of money, not supply or demand for goods and services.
To clarify someone else's point, INFLATIONARY increases in the overall price level do not lead to a decrease in sales/profits. Over a several month period, it evens itself out as far as sales/costs and inflationary distortions. Increased inflation actually leads to lower unemployment, which means more people have $ to buy products...and the effect is a zero-sum gain for companies.
BTW I think that Garruk is hideous. Looks too cartoonish for my tastes.
Also, what ever happened to what they originally said that there'd be a PC version?
Incredible deal even if you just want the Garruk and don't care about the game AT ALL.
I'd love to have the game but I'm without an xbox 360. Therefore, I have a friend buying it for me (for the promo) and I'm going to pay him back. At a price like $10 thou...I might get 2 friends to help me out!
surprised they didn't price it at 1200 (or 15 dollars..).. as that seems to be the new norm.. for 10 though.. this is a no brainer pick up

If they are trying to attract new players (or people that played/remember the game from years ago), a low price point makes sense. I think the promo is more of an incentive for current players, although I am interested in trying the multiplayer and Two-Headed Giant.
I am getting an Xbox in about a month, the Garruk promo would still be going on then right?
10 dollars is a perfect price point, IMO.
Anyone with an Xbox that plays magic should buy it at that price. It will certainly (at least) provide more entertainment than 3 boosters could have.

You can make a gammertag on someone else's 360 and download the game. If you get a 360 at some later point you can transfer the digital rights to your machine (or if you're online you don't need to, as it's tied to your gammertag).

The game had to be done for it to be certified by MS, so bumping up a release date has nothing to do with the game's quality at this point.

Wizards confirmed it themselves, lol.

The expansionist financial policies that governments often employ to combat recession can lead to inflation.
But I digress.
Very curious to see the 360 demo for this one.

Any word on this?
I love it
