Everyone is talking about how broken 3 mana is turn 3 or 4. I for one would much rather see a signet 90% of the time, because it dosent determine when it is going to go off.
The mana doesn't have to go off turn 4 right? it just comes into play on turn 4, then you can sac it for the mana anytime you want.

Actualy, it's a turn 4 drop. You play it turn 1, then remove a counter on turns 2, 3 and 4 thus getting the benefit turn 4. An extra 3 mana turn 4 is nice, but it's nothing to go crazy over.
unless you get more than one in your opening hand.
Evermind's rules stuff says its CMC is treated as 0, so stuff should be able to fetch this.
EDIT: Dammit, I always forget that creature bit on Salvaging Station; I'm so used to playing with March of the Machines. But yeah, converted mana cost is zero, so anything looking for it doesn't go nuts when it sees it.
Actually, I think the best use for this card would be in a MUC-type deck.
Figure this.
A 1st turn Lotus allows the MUC player to drop its game ending threat faster with counter backup.
Also one potential interaction to keep an eye out for----- Lotus Bloom + Rewind for land untapping.
You can play this card. The card itself says you can play it. Whats the number one rule of magic again? The Card always wins. The card says you can play it without paying its mana cost, thus you can play it regardless of another rule.

Do threads in this forum ever not get hijacked by the magical invisible hand of the market guys?
The card will probably fall somewhere between "OMFG!" (me on page 2) and "This card is weak" (a bunch of other folks).
I think it will probably be best used in a combination deck, though.
As always, keep in mind we have seen very little of TS the set let alone the block, so it's too early to say one way or the other whether this card will be good or bad.
Time spiral is looking to be freakin sweet. This is a perfect control deck card, casting a fatty on turn 4+ with counter back up is good I hear.
And Im sure aggro players will want to cast "free" Chars on turn 4.
What ever the slogan for time spiral is im that but untill then Im trippin' for timespial.

That is themost contrived explanation I think I have ever seen to deny the existence of the purple rarity symbol. AFAIK, Magic expansion symbols do not have retinas.
This is no more broken with Goblin Welder than Gilded Lotus. Unless I misunderstand something.
Gilded Lotus doesn't conveniently put itself in your graveyard after you use it so that you can bring it back and tap it for more mana in the same turn.
You have to pay a spell's mana cost in order to play it. If the spell has no mana cost, it cannot be played. Lotus Bloom gets around that because it can be played "without paying its mana cost". That seems to be the logic behind it.
Hmm.. but if that was right, wouldn't it be possible to play Evermind with Dream Halls? I must be thinking wrong...
Gilded Lotus doesn't conveniently put itself in your graveyard after you use it so that you can bring it back and tap it for more mana in the same turn.
But Gilded Lotus can be played from your hand early on. Goblin Welder doesn't want to wait until turn 4 to start hijinks.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
We could see cards coming into play Phased, possibly with Delay counters similar to Ertai's Meddling. This could also mean an apendum to Phasing to read (If this card would Phase in and has any Delay Counters on it, instead remove a delay counter and ~ remains phased out", which could also give Ertai's Meddling "Phase out target spell with X Delay counters." Which could means Meddling may see a reprint...and Maybe Ertai himself.
Did I call this or what?
Awesome card.
Its only drawback is it is a dead draw later in the game. You want this in your openning hand. Any other time its a dead draw since you will have it 4 turns later...at least Gilded Lotus drawn late is useful.
while this is a so called "fixed" lotus. if you are depending on this thing by turn 4 you are in trouble.
as for storm count. once you remove all the counters then it gets played so on turn 4 you put this card into play which gives you a storm of 1.
other than that it is never in play but removed from the game. goblin welder would like this card very much. in type 1 it is a pitch card for sure then welder it back into play and you get a lotus.
in type 2 there is nothing to do that with so it remains rfg.
this is a control or aggro card for sure. combo it sucks.
i am already working on a storm combo deck that should work really well.
waiting to see what the rest of TS brings.

I still think its slightly broken. . . I don't want to even imagine what else this set holds. . . probably too mant GOOD cards. . . that will be the day.
Played turn 1 it is pretty good, granting you and extra 3 mana on turn 4. However, until you get to turn 4 it has no effect on the game at all and you lose tempo/card advantage (until you get to turn 4 that is, then you gain tempo back, well, if you have anything to do with 7 mana on turn 4).
I'm not entirely sold on the card at all, not by a longshot really...I mean, do you want to draw this 6 turns into the game, having to wait until turn 10 to get any benefits from it?

The card seems interesting, Control might use it, legacy will use it one way or the other. Looks like a fine set to me, smells like a new Mirrodin, let's pray not to see something like affinity rising...

I think that WoTC felt that a lot of the players thought Standard was becoming mundane and a joke from all the nuked cards floating around. R&D took a vacation, and MaRo just started reprinting things.
This will all be clarified when we get the rules update. Either Suspend will have a definition which takes care of this inconsistency, or the rules for playing a spell will have changed.
Reminder text is often loosely phrased and cuts some corners; nothing to be too worried about ATM.
As far as the card, it's not bad. I'll gladly trade away any I get ASAP to those who lust for them.
Oh, what a shock: another card with the word "Lotus" in it, and everyone goes crazy. It's simply not very impressive. Hitting 7 mana on turn 4 is not unbelievable or even that difficult to do, especially with signets, all the green search engines, and mana producing critters out there.
Not a card worth getting this excited about, but I'll give WotC credit again: they know how to wind you all up around their finger.
Except for the fact now you don't need green to accelerate into 7 mana turn 4... or burn 3 extra cards (signets) from your hand to have it... its 1 card to have 7 mana...
I feel it can be strong, and has its merits... but I'm waiting for some kind of wonky combo deck with it.
