That is really cool of wizards to do that for the stores, I didnt know that. But by MSRP being 39.99 we the consumer know that the shops are paying even less than that. I don't mind that there is a mark up and profit for the store, they deserve it. That said, marking up products over 400% is a way to turn off loyal customers. Shouldn't the loyal customers get something nice from the store they pour money into and support?
Yes and some ,not all, stores did help the loyal customers. I know our store for example gave anyone who ordered the previous FTV this one for MSRP . Also we gave the person who spent the most at our store in the past year one very cheap.
The real issue is Ebay and SCG . Why are prices so high? Even before LGSs started selling them Ebay was already selling them for $300 or more. SCG right now is selling a set for $230. LGS just compete with the market. Why should an LGS sell their FTV to everyone for $40 just to have that person turn around and sell it for $125 to SCG with no effort? LGS have many expenses and costs associated with running a business and running events. The mark up on sealed MTG product is minimal already so Wizards is doing this as a thank you to stores. Blame SCG for their price fixing which started it all. Even on one of their podcasts they said to expect FTV 20 to be around $300 so they set the standard long before it was fully spoiled.
As far as Ebay most of those people selling them for high prices are people who are planning on buying them from their LGS for "MSRP" and sell them higher on Ebay. Not many of those sellers are even guaranteed to have the product

I agree with everything you said. I think if this were done 20 years ago, they would be easily available for $39.99 on day one.
The sweet spot for me is ~$150 inc. tax. And stores have the right to sell for even more if they want. I'll simply pass and let someone else pick it up.
Too many people (probably just trolls) are getting way too wound up over this thing.

What is funny is no one wants to pay MSRP on boxes lol God forbid if a store said they wanted $144.76 for a sealed box players would flip out. Now when MSRP benefits the players (Modern Masters, Command Arsenal and FTV) they cry.

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
is this you?
