I have mixed feelings regarding these Commander cards.
Pros: absolutely love the designs. Almost every card printed would either be a great build around as a Commander deck or be amazing in the 99.
Cons: I've never been into Warhammer 40k. There is no connection or excitement in seeing that story unwind.
So as any can see, I'm torn. The best win-win scenario (for me, and "no," I'm not asking/expecting a company to cater to my needs, but I'm sure many others share the sentiment) is that these will get reprinted with a best-fit creature type on them (some do look very Phyrexian, so I would buy it).
Wizards has announced that they are capable of reprinting it.
From the sounds of it, cards would be reprinted with a different subtype (they can't use "tyrannid", for example) that would be unique for them. Necrons might become "Aetherlich", for example. I HIGHLY doubt that they would use preexisting tribes that people know as that would be a functional errata. If they reprinting Necrons as zombies, for example, cards that previously did not benefit from zombie tribal would now reap all of those benefits. Wizards is historically highly against that kind of shift.
With that said, wizards has not committed to reprinting any of the 40K cards. If a couple of them get really popular (like biotransference, shadow of the warp, or that new demon cost reducer), we may see those individual cards printed "universe within" style in the future.
Personally, I don't get much of the "I don't know 40k and have no connection to it" fuss unless you are a very deep Vorthos. To me, this product is the equivalent of wizards creating a new plane for a normal set, minus the planeswalkers and story spotlight cards. The flavor text, flavor abilities, and art direction seem to do some pretty heavy lifting in fleshing out the world to the point where I can basically understand it. I may not know what a pink horror is coming into the this set but I don't know the story of colossal dreadmaw, reckless fireweaver, or hypnotic specter, either. These are cards that merely flesh out the world instead of doing the actual story-telling. This is a set filled just with that kind of card and I personally feel that this set had MORE story than something like Battlebond did (even if the latter did introduce us to two ongoing characters).
I didn't know anything about warhammer 40k. Some of the printed characters were interesting, tho. So I did some research and learn more about the universe of warhammer. The commander decks are interesting and I personally love the coherence of those. Every reprint getting matching/fitting artwork is something I wish they would do more often. I am open minded to other universes stepping into magic. If I can get some awesome new effects in magic that all I care about. I love that the demon tribe has got so much support in this product. And I am really happy for all those warhammer fans. Some of my friends went literally crazy about this product.
