Throne of Eldraine really covers the gamut of Arthurian Legend and the fairy tale stories many of us have been raised on. Some are quite obvious such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Cinderella. We can tell who Goldilocks is because of the artwork. And yes there are still a lot more to be previewed, but some connections are going to be made out of Clues from the cards themselves. And some of the cards that we can guess what they are seem to be in a different color than what we have always imagined as being, because their nature differs from our memories.
First less take some guesses at what characters are represented by certain cards. Let's give some examples of what we can guess. Who is:
1) the Knights of the Round Table, such Lancelot, King Arthur, Sir Gawain and Sir Robin?
2) Merlin
3) Morgana (Arthur's half-sister)
4) Little John (will we see a Legendary for the prominent Merry Men or just a representation, as we recently got with Outlaws' Merriment
When each Legend is previewed, some will pop and we'll know right away who it's a version of, but some will be murky. I'm more interested in the murky ones, the ones leaving us guessing.
Next we can also discuss color shifts. Examples are:
1) Robin of Loxley is (most likely) red and not legendary (yet). There is a red human archer rogue. This may very well be Robin's Merry Men. So will Robin also be red? We think of Robin as green, with his attire, archery knowledge and giving demeanor. This can be felt as even being red and white, yet "stealing" can be blue and black.
2) Bridge trolls have an evilness who also tax others. Taxation is a white ability, evil selfish nature is black, but trolls in Magic are typically green (red in the early days).
Food for thought Will Scarlet is associated with the Robin Hood legend. He is character who has dabbled in treachery.
The Snow Queen by Andersen hurts others using zombifying magic, maybe fits in WB.
There are no shortage of knight icons in the form of princes from the tales
Rose Red and Snow White are sisters in a Grimm tale who constantly help an ungrateful, treacherous dwarf, who had stolen the treasure of a prince that he then turned into a bear, which the sisters befriend. Bear kills dwarf - returning as a prince, and he and his brother marry one each of the sisters. Cool story, tokens, green and red/blue possibilities.
Nursery rhymes - ring of rosies - a plague, has a RB feel to me
Ooh ! Bluebeard the pirate for his locking people away and setting up his next victims with a warning about a locked door but leaving the key in plain sight, now where does exile belong ?
So... no one wants to use the creative side of the brain and the critical side of the brain at the same time? Talking about what colors certain fictional characters match with is critical thinking, comparing notes. I'm sure at least a couple others looking over this post are game designers or have aspirations to become a game designer. It is discussions like these, diving into form vs. function.
Danae above has only 6 posts, but his examples are good. Some may not agree, while others may agree. I like his reasoning. He also gives examples; perfect.
Well, to add to what I had originally said about trolls having a dark, "black" side was a great prediction on my part: the troll who sites under the bridge and harasses the goats has been portrayed as black, taxation for his own selfish reasons.
I'm besides myself. You schmucks have nothing to say {watch now a mod will say something, and just to give me A) a warning [or] B) an infraction. But like all good art, at least it'll warrant a reaction of some kind. Better than being ignored}.
Finally found someone else who wants to play this game! Okay I'm totally all in on this.
Okay Linden, the Steadfast Queen is probably our Guinnevere analog if we go with the idea that Kenrith, the Returned King is Arthur and I think we can reasonably make that argument considering he's called "the Returned King" even knowing what I know about what that really means with regards to the novel.
Considering those two are based in Ardenvale from the look of it and are white aligned I'm going to go with Syr Alin, Lion's Claw as lancelot since he's the knight closest to the king and queen.
Ayara, first of the Locthwain is one where I have no idea who she could be. I guess she most closely fits Morgana but I don't know any stories connecting Morgan Le Fey with the Cauldron from the older Arthurian tales OR the Holy Grail from the later ones.
The Cauldron of Eternity as noted earlier is probably the magic Cauldron from earlier stories that may have become the Grail.
Not sure who any of the red legends are.
Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig puts me in mind of the Green Knight/Green Man from the tale of Gawain and the Green Knight.
the last one I'm going to mention is Oko, Thief of Crowns. He's the main reason I'm not sure about my Morgan Le Fey pick. Largely because considering he brings about the misfortune and shenanigans for the Arthur analog HE could be the Morgan Le Fey character in this story as well.

Okay

We know pretty much without question that Emry, Lurker in the Loch is the lady of the lake.
I think Gadwick, the Wizened is Merlin.
No idea who Syr Elenora, the Discerning is.
