Now that the full set is spoiled, what are your impressions and thoughts on it?
For me, it's nice to see some cards with the Frontier border. It's reminiscent of the days of 4th edition/Ice Age/Mirage when you opened a pack and even if your rare was sit you still had a good chance of getting equivalent pack value from an uncommon/common or two. (I understand that $14/pack is a lot different than $3~/pack as they were back in the day).
However, that said, I'd much rather buy the originals than invest $14/pack. What about you?

HR Analyst. Gamer. Activist | Fearless, and forthright | Aggro-control is a mindset. Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
I actually like this set. I mostly play EDH, so reprints of Mikaeus, Snapcaster Mage, Ancient Tomb, etc are great. A lot of people hate the $14 price, but the value in the set makes it fine. I probably won't buy many(or any) packs, but I am super excited to make my EDH deck good with Snapcaster, Boonweaver Combo, Eldrazi Titans, and Mike/Trike.
About what I expected from a Masters Set these days. Meh.
What excites me:
1. I originally speculated I would be blown away and willing to spend $350 on a box. Turns out I was less excited and can spend $350 on pimp AF single cards.
2. Lots of nice reprints to encourage me to pick up secondary singles for Commander decks where I would rotate high dollar cards between them.
3. A fair amount of options to me to consider picking up a playset finally.
But all these are situations where my money is going to the secondary market and not WOTC.
What bums me out:
1. I want to give WOTC my money, but they continually make it so damn difficult for me to actually give them my money.
2. Box Toppers were largely unnecessary, and while I enjoy the pimpness, I would have appreciated a bomb-ass set as a whole - much more.
Overall, I like these sets where I am content just picking up a handful of dope singles. But I like sets where I feel encouraged to buy a case worth of sealed product, because I feel that is a different kind of enjoyment I get from MTG and it seems to be harder and harder to come by these days.

It's probably the best Master set since the first one, that's nice
box toppers are nice
lots of good reprints
No TRULY horrendous rares or mythics, no Simic Sky Swallower . I do appreciate that
however the commons and uncommons, while the best we have had in a long time, they still leave a lot to be desired. there were a handful of cards that aren't very valuable or wouldn't have been after a reprint and it makes me sad. I don't need more value per se, but it just objectively feels better to have commons or uncommons that even if they are not worth money and you don't want them, you can leave them on the table and SOMEBODY not just looking to have cards to have cards is happy to look through them. Pauper gems, good kill spells, casual favorites. the commons and uncommons should look like a Peasant Cube.
Overall it's not perfect, but it's the best in a while, definitely a good set

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Most of the set's value is stuffed in the $20-50 range (which is incredible).
The number of UMA cards above $20 is more than the entirety of cards above $5 in every other Master's set, other than MMA.
5 extra Mythics (20 total), almost ALL of which are huge hits, and even the bad ones aren't nearly as bad as Tree of Redemption or Comet Storm.
Looking just at the top 15 Mythics (which normal sets have), the 15th lowest value Mythic is currently Leovold at $19.
Box Toppers are essentially bonus inclusions of extremely rare cards, and a thank-you note to those who buy sealed boxes
Box Toppers look amazing and the extended art really pops (I have a Maelstrom Pulse... anyone want it? I don't play green cards. )
I am really excited for a lot of the cards in there. As a player of Commander and Modern, there are TONS of hits for me here.
There are some notable omissions that COULD have been included, but are heavily offset by the ridiculous value that IS included, IMO.
The MSRP should not have been revealed as it was. It should have been done last, after the full set was spoiled (or at least after all the Toppers), as the negative backlash is almost 100% centered around this.
That being said, the set is selling WELL BELOW MSRP. Boxes without toppers are selling for less than the MSRP of all recent Master's sets.
Going on the eBay sales numbers, at least 8,000 boxes are being sold. With such a high EV, most of those boxes are likely getting opened, which means more copies of much-needed cards will flow into the wild to help with prices.
Price dips will be TEMPORARY for any card in any kind of demand. We'll get a few months (if that) low, then will inevitably creep back up.
This is the best and most exciting Masters set ever made, and is only brought down by the unfortunate negative reaction players have had to the price.
The set costs in the UK 250+ GBP cheapest (RRP is 350 odd), previous masters sets could be had for 150-160. We can't get it for US prices converted to gbp, unfortunately. That is a hell of a difference considering we can get most single cards much cheaper than the US. By and large the box toppers will determine the success of a box opening from the feel good/bad point of view, I would rather let others take the risk. Real shame that there are some real whiffers at the bottom end of the box toppers, but I can't risk a lavaclaw reaches box topper.
Price dips for scarce cards with some fringe play or sideboard cards, a good example of which is Runed Halo, will be deep and long, recovering to something closer to current prices (about 50-70%), maybe in two to three years, depending on how much get opened. Price dips for the Lilly, Snappy type cards will be shallow and recovery will be very swift. Price dips for Legacy only cards like Leovold will be hard.
The interesting thing will be what they replace the masters sets with.

People with belligerent signatures are trying to compensate for something....
my partner in crime managed to snag a box for the booster collection and i'm glad.
bit peeved about the inclusion of a couple of trashy bulk rares (really, in this set there didn't need to be any at all), but compared to most sets we've seen, this is good value in terms of secondary market EV.
i like the set symbol. i like the box toppers (more of those please! they are such a fantastic callback to when we used to have oversized box toppers). I like the alternative art on some of the cards. I like the way they sent out cards to people before spoiler season. I like the cheesy way the set name has 'Ultimate' in it. I like how it seems to hit a lot of the 'Modern reprints' that we needed. I like how it's been released just before christmas.
generally, I like this set. I can't imagine that it'll lead to many bad-beats stories and while I really don't like the increased MSRP, I was able to get a box for the same price as the previous masters set. that's not bad.

Agreed on the filler my blister pack from walmart was Squee, Spoils of the Vault, and Reya Dawnbringer. Only thing that made the purchase not a crapshoot was I got lucky and pulled a foil Demonic Tutor.
I adore this set. It has done wonders supplying 9-10 blue cards I needed to rebuild Azami. Sadly even this set couldn't get Snapcaster to an affordable range for me, but the others sure did get there, so I am beyond happy. New art Frantic Search is LIFE! Pattern of Rebirth and a few white cards I have sought are in here too. The set's value is very impressive, I wish all Masters sets had been in this vein.

When is the best time to buy singles? Now?
Best time to buy singles is 2 - 3 weeks after the release of a set for prices to settle, but generally a lot of the set tends to decrease until 6 months out from release.
It may be diff for expensive modern staples, as they seem to be varying a bit and may find their nadir in pricing sooner than non-modern staples. But for edh stuff, generally you can wait up to 6 months before prices creep back up.
I feel that a lot of people in my area weren't overly excited for the set before it was released but on Friday a lot of people were buying packs and talking about drafts. So maybe it will turn out pretty popular
For one thing, I'm thankful it brought the price of Kitchen Finks down. Finks is a card I've wanted to have for a long time.. but feel that paying 15-20 for it is too much. Now that they're at 3-4. Can finally have finks, and I did order at SCG last week. Just waiting for order to arrive.
Also glad that the prices of some other cards went down.
Sure stings to pay $12-15 for $2-8 in cards. Sure there are some cards worth more, but almost everything that was more than $15 is now well under. People kept talking about how great the EV was on these packs. They sure aren't now. People don't think of how fast prices on 95% of the cards drop instantly and by large margins... $12 Back to Basics? $10 Phyrexian Tower? $8 Goroyo's Vengeance? I could keep on going. If box prices don't drop soon then these are going to sit forever. Bet at $8-10 a pack they wouldn't have.
That said, the draft was fun.

First of all, the whole point of these sets is to get $12 Back to Basics $10 Phyrexian Tower and $8 Goroyo's Vengeance. These prices will recover, which is why some hoard these sets unopened. In the meantime, EDH and Modern have more copies in the card pool at affordable prices, lowering the barrier of either remaining in the game, or entering it. You're not required to gamble on the packs or boxes.

I picked up 2 or 3 kitchen finks not long before they announced UMA. I'm not overly upset as I paid buylist for them and figured they'd be good to have. I'm pretty happy with what this should do to prices, at least in the short run as I don't know the print run

The guaranteed foil in every pack increases the likelihood of foil rares and mythics which is great. I only ordered one box but i got a foil Mikaeus and foil Engineered Explosives, plus my box topper, so the 350 was well worth it.
