I have a black/blue Wizards tribal deck. I have an interesting interaction & not too sure if would work the way I think it will. Here it is:
I have Conspiracy in playing, naming "wizards." Also have in play Naban, Dean of Iteration in play. I then play Adaptive Automaton. Since the Automaton is a wizard in my hand from Conspiracy, will I get to name two creature types when it comes into play? So, let's say I name "human" and "wizard," will Naban get +2/+2?
Can this effectively turn 4 Automatons into 8 Automatons? In theory? What if I also have Panharmonicon in play? Will I then get 4 triggers, naming 4 different creature types?
Adaptive Automaton does not have an "enters the battlefield" trigger, it has a replacement effect that modifies HOW it enters the battlefield. You can tell because the clause starts with "As" and not "when".
Other, similar abilities include ones that ask you to name a card or color (i.e. Meddling Mage, Pithing Needle, Iona, Shield of Emeria, Painter's Servant), copying abilities (Clone and its ilk), and even most cards that enter with counters on them (which are worded "<Name> enters the battlefield with...").
These abilities are not triggered abilities, and as such, they cannot be responded to, nor do effects like Naban or Panharmonicon affect them.
